Summary: Jurassic Park it AIN'T---but it IS a fun read
Review: After quenching my dinosaur thirst with 'The Lost World' (a great sequel, by the way) I happened to fall upon 'Footprints of Thunder' quite by accident, and figured the plot sounded decent enough to give it a go. I have to say I was glad I took the risk. As another reader mentioned, the overall premise is at best ludicrous...but c'mon! It's DINOSAURS we're talking about, you pretty much HAVE to suspend your belief in order to fall for it in the first place. But after you DO...well that is when this book takes off.

Author David sets us up with all kinds of odd phenomenon that has happened not just in the novel, but in real life, too. Accounts of it raining fish miles away from the nearest lake or river and a few other unexplainable occurances (some of which ARE from the authors imagination). Then, all-of-a-sudden--the landscape of the entire planet is changed in the twinkling of an eye. Parts of earth remain the same, but OTHERS suddenly become earth of the past...the WAAAAY PAST. Now we've got dinosaurs walking the streets of New York City. Sound interesting? I have to admit once I got past the odd premise, I really enjoyed 'Footprints of Thunder' very much. Was it better than 'Jurassic Park'? I don't think it even comes CLOSE. But hey, for a great beach read or something to pass the time on a long flight, it makes for a fun escape into the partial-world of the paleolithic. Overall, not bad.

Summary: Brings unusual elements together in unexpected ways - great.
Review: An enjoyable book. The strange events (which the author reports are true) are fun and fascinating - gives it a kind of "X-files" ambience. The character of the old woman that the author mentions was particularly compelling. Because it is fanciful fiction it breaks the barriers that we often feel bound by. It brings together unusual elements in unexpected ways. An excellent first novel

Summary: The Lost World, It Isn't
Review: At 500+ pages, Footprints Of Thunder is not for those lookingfor a quick 'dino on the rampage' read. As the past is thrown intothe future and vice versa, this book follows the aftershocks of several groups of people dealing with dinosaurs grazing outside their windows (and sometimes reaching in to graze on them). While starting off promisingly enough, FOT loses its way about 200 pages in, and wanders aimlessly from subplot to suplot, while truly developing none of them. This is dissapointing, as the premise is truly original. Characters intended to be heroes are written in a way that makes the reader unsympathetic to their plight, while those most interesting are lost early on. While revolving plot lines are enough to keep ones interest through the bulk, a stunningly unsatisfying ending makes it all a waste of time.

Summary: Crichton Move over!
Review: Crichton better watch his back! This novel makes his Jurassic Park seem like a fairy tale.Because of our detonations of nuclear weapons; time has been turned back millions of years.Dinosaurs now walk the earth again and man is their prey! This novel is told thru the eyes of few characters who must try to able to survive. This novel boasts action, terror and little romance.

Summary: Atypical dinosaur adventure
Review: David's book is a better than average first novel that shouldplease most readers. Better than Lost World, and as good asJurassic Park, David's book brings dinosaurs to the present in a creative way. His fictional interpretation of real physical events is clever, although it takes a stretch of the imagination, but after all, that's why we read this stuff. The beginning catches your attention, but it's better to read the middle in large chunks becuase the action jumps around. The characters work, with the bad guys bad, the good guys good, and the lovable lovable. The ending isn't your usual Hollywood ending and may not satisfy the tv generation, but it leaves you guessing until the last page. The world painted by the last scene leaves a lasting image that is intriquing and even haunting. Overall a good read that will leave you hoping for a sequel.

Summary: Not Quite Enough Teeth But Pretty Entertaining Nonetheless
Review: Dinosaurs are great literary tools when used to rouse wonder, speculation or even terror. But as this novel showed, if a solid plot is not present or if the narrator tries to appeal to every possible reader, dinosaurs alone cannot carry a story. Don't misunderstand: the storyteller here entertained and made me think. It's simply unfortunate that the novel, with all of its worthy parts, could not congeal into something transcending those individual pieces.

Summary: Smash Hit! But Above Norman's Reading Level
Review: Finally a great book that equals that of "The Lost World" Original and New! FootPrint's of Thunder is a provacative and insightful story pushing the envelope of creativity. Yes some of the characters get killed but that only leads to the realism of the story. Looking forward to his next book.

Summary: A great action/science fiction novel by James F. David
Review: Footprints Of Thunder James F. David: It was a normal day in the lives of American citizens, when suddenly a catastrophe struck. A ferak natural phenomenon dissolves the boundaries between the age of man and the age of the dinaosaurs. Whole cities dissapear, replaced by prehistoric forests. Riots break out, gang fights start, and the police desperately try to keep everyone in line. As ordinary people desperately try to survive in this strange new world, the President and his advisers discover a way to undo this "time displacement." But the results could be more devestating than what has already happened. This book was an incredible science fiction novel. A non-stop, can't-put-it-down story, with well developed characters (some of them dinosaurs.) This book has a fresh new view of the apocalypse. If you like books about dinosaurs, surviving in the wild, or just science fiction, this is a must-read!

Summary: People aren't just snack food for dinosaurs in Footprints
Review: Footprints of Thunder underwent a major change after it was purchased. My editor enjoyed the premise so much he wanted it doubled in length. Since there are plenty of stories of dinosaurs using humans as snack food, I took the opportunity to show other ways in which people might interact with dinosaurs, including an old woman who befriends a dinosaur, and a family that clings to one in the middle of the ocean. Of course carnivores must eat, so there is some snacking going on. By the way, all the segments on things falling from the sky are real events

Summary: I hated to end this book!!!
Review: I have only two negative things to say about this book: 1)too short, and 2)no sequel. This is the type of book that you will either hate or love - no in-between. Some people died, some survived. Given the premise that a human comes up against a T-Rex, my money's going to be on the Rex, everytime! What a great story! Unfortunately, that sleep thing kept getting in the way so it me all of two day to read it. What I would like to see is a sequel told from the view point of the cities/people displaced to other times/eras. What do you say, Mr. David?
