Summary: Entertaining first effort!!
Review: I liked this book. It was interesting and not your average run of the mill relationship book with some twists and turns at the end. I have no idea what would make anyone think that a person with just a bachelors degree in any non-techical field would have a clue, so unlike the other reviewers, I did not expect her to have any special insight. I do appreciate that Ms Foxx gave us some insight into her villian. That is somehting you don't see often. Good first effort, looking forward to the next.

Summary: Ummm
Review: I picked this book up b/c this was a new sister on the block, she has Sisterlocks and I thought the title was amusing. Instead of Dippin my Spoon this should have been called Stick me with a fork I'm done.

The character Amber got on my nerves, she was docile, and very naive, but then she had a scandelous friend and a wacko husband who she should have left long b4 she actually did. I am still trying to figure out what this book was about.

I would not read it again, would I recommend it, umm I don't think so, would I tell someone about it, if they just wanted to read anything yes.

Summary: A RETRACTION AND REVISION
Review: I posted an earlier review of this book and after receiving an email response from the author herself (within hours) of submitting my comments to her via ninafoxx.com I would like to post a retraction/revision to my earlier comments. Below is a copy of the email I received from Nina Foxx commenting on her novel. I hope this clears up any other reviewers questions/concerns about her novel.

"Thank you for your comments. There is no excuse for the editing in DMS. There is a lot that has to be learned when one embarks on a self-publishing effort. Unfortunately, I had to learn them the hard way. In the first edition, there were problems with the editor and editing that impacted the final product. Fortunately, that was corrected, but not until about 1000 of the books were sold. After that, I went on to sell over 15,000 of them, not to mention book club rights to Bookspan. This is a major accomplishment for an author that was the author, publisher and publicist for her book. DMS was my first book, unlike many of the other authors you mentioned, and it was produced with limited resources and without the backing of a major publisher. Although I decided to become a writer AFTER I wrote the book, I am glad you enjoyed the story. Prior to that, I had no training in writing, editing or publishing; I have a Ph.D. in an unrelated field. DMS was my schoolroom (That and a graduate fiction writing course from U Of W. It was a learning experience for me; I learned more going through it and making the mistakes I made than many writers ever do in their whole writing career. I have completed three other books since them (two of them fiction), and have even thought about re-writing Dippin' as a screenplay. My next book (fiction ) will be produced by Harper Collins and I will put you on my email list to receive notification when the time comes. Thanks for your comments and your support."

On a personal note, as a reviewer; If you are one of the lucky one's to purchase one of the 15,000 books with the corrections made, then you will truly find a decent story within.

Summary: Good Read
Review: I read this book in one night (I was meeting with the author the next day at a book conference). I enjoyed the book and there definitely was a STORY there. I feel that the author did a good job. The characters were well developed and the story line progressed well. I did buy Nina's newest book - but I have not read it yet. Also, I was totally impressed with Nina after meeting her - articulate and personable. Keep up the good work!

Summary: Dippin My Spoon
Review: I was afforded the opportunity to read an advanced copy of "Dippin My Spoon". I enjoyed this book so much I read entire book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. The character,Amber LaReaux, came to life on the pages of this book. I found myself experiencing pain, disappointment, fear and happiness with this character. The villians in this carefully woven plot were invisible until the surprising ending. I really picked the wrong one. Bravo Nina Foxx! When is your next book?

Summary: Just a Dip
Review: I was frustrating with Dippin' My Spoon. Mostly, I was frustrated with Amber's character. She is a prime example of why anyone in the human service field must strive for self awareness as they are trying to understand other people. Amber had zip self-awareness which allowed her to continue to make mistake after mistake. From choice of husband, to participating in adultery, to choice of friend etc. etc. She couldn't have loved herself because she sure didn't expect it from anyone she allowed in her life consistently. Maybe it would have been a little easier to tolerate if Malik had played more of a role in the overall novel. His character was not developed but was necessary. The proofreading could have been better as well. If there is a second novel, I will read it hoping there are improvements.

Summary: Contemporary Fiction with a Twist
Review: I was pleased that Dippin' was more than just your average relationship novel. It actually had some twists and turns that added a suspense flavor to the novel. I enjoyed the book, and i look forward to reading Ms. Foxx's future novel. I think she has a promising future.

Summary: AWFUL BOOK!
Review: I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS BOOK. I FINISHED IT BECAUSE I HAD STARTED IT. IT WAS POORLY WRITTEN, THE CHARACTERS HAD NO DEPTH TO THEM. THE WRITING WAS SO LARGE, I FELT SHE DID THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING TO SAY. WHAT AN AWFUL BOOK! I JUST STARTED ANOTHER BOOKTODAY, AND ALREADY I KNOW IT IS GOING TO BE GREAT. I THINK MS. FOXX NEEDS TO DEVELOP HER WRITING SKILLS A LOT MORE TO EVER GET ME TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE OF HER "ESSAYS", BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT A NOVEL.

Summary: A TOUCH OF REALITY
Review: I WOULD HAVE TO ADMITT THAT BOOK HIT HOME. I'M SURE A LOT OF US CAN RELATE TO AMBER'S SITUATION. IT IS EASY TO BECOME VULNERABLE AFTER BEING TREATED THE WAY HER HUSBAND WAS TREATING HER. BECAUSE SHE WAS DEPRIVED FOR SO LONG, SHE WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE ATTENTION THAT SHE WAS GETTING FROM DAVID. I UNDERSTAND THAT SHE WAS NAIVE. BUT SOMETIME WHEN CHE SPOKE TO HER I THINK SHE BELIEVED HER BUT WAS IN DENIAL BECAUSE DAVID MADE HER FEEL SO SPECIAL. CHE ON THE OTHER HAND IS THE KIND OF PERSON I REFER TO AS DISPOSABLE FRIENDS. ONCE YOU FIND OUT WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT YOU LEAVE THEM ALONE. IT DOESN'T MAKE SINCE TO KEEP PEOPLE LIKE CHEZ AROUND. UNFORTUNATELY AMBER HAD TO LEARN THE HARD WAY, WICH I BELIEVE HAPPEN TO MANY OF US. IT WAS A GREAT STORY I JUST WISH THE BOOK WAS A BIT LONGER.
