Rating: Summary: Technothriller Classic Review: A secret Soviet weapon using Star Wars technology threatens to bring the free-world to its knees in Dale Brown's first novel. Operating from their highly secure base on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Russians aim their weapons with impunity. The only chance for the west is the EB-52, a highly modified B-52 bomber using stealth, new engines and next generation electronics and weapons - probably one of the few planes capable of destroying the Russians' base, and the only one stealthy enough to get the job done and survive without starting WWIII. Flying from their secret base, "Dreamland", the hastily assembled crew of the EB-52 is essentially alone. (A terrorist strike forces their early departure, and the project and mission alone are each too secret for them to call out for help). Not until they reduce the deadly Russian base at Pavaznaya to ashes can they risk returning home.Though I'm not a hard-core fan of Dale Brown, this was still a good read, getting enough mileage to stretch over to a few books. "Old Dog" contains all the elements familiar too anybody whose read some of the past 15 year's worth of Brown novels (the bad guys either come up with some massive technological threat or otherwise threaten geo-political stability; this generally coincides with some new technological innovations of the west) when the idea was new. Also, being Brown's first novel, "Old" lacks the extraneous and redundant references to older books. It's sort of like watching the pilot episode of a show that has long since fallen into a rut. Here, the characters seem fresher, the scenes un-recycled and novel itself is more tightly focused on the main characters (latter novels treated the fighting characters like toy soldiers on a board-game map, while the real action happened in generals' offices or in Oval Office). If you've read one Dale Brown novel, you might as well have read them all, but this one still stands out.

Rating: Summary: Excellent adventure, after the Gulf war everything is possib Review: Dale Brown has but together an excellent adventure story that takes the reader through many harrowing moments. In the past the weaponary may not have been believable, but after the Gulf War we learned weapons had advanced far beyond anyones imagination. It is the best book Brown has written
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent adventure story. Review: Dale Brown is a great story teller. He is a former air force captain who served as a navigator on heavy bombers, so he makes the flight sequences realistic. With secret super weapons and heavily modified, experimental planes, this story borders on science fiction. Unfortunately, that is its primary weakness. Mr. Brown occasionally demonstrates that he needs a refresher course in physics. All in all it's an excellent book--the first of a series (ten books to date) and I have already purchased the others.
Rating: Summary: The best! Review: Dale Brown's first book is his best! He writes so good of a book that everyone in my family wanted to read it! I give it a 101%
Rating: Summary: A classic thriller Review: Dale Brown's first published novel can only be described as a classic which paved the way for his own work and inspired many other writers, both published and aspiring(such as me!). The pacing is flawless, the action scenes come thick and fast and when you least expect them, and as well as the souped-up stealth B-52 Megafortress, you get action at sea, on the ground when the secret Dreamland facility at Ellis AFB, Nevada is suddenly attacked by Russian agents and even in space as America sends up a shuttle to erect the Ice Fortress laser weapon which the Russians laser themselves! This one is the target for the Old Dog B-52 mission which the crew do their best to keep covert with the intentions of fooling their superiors and surprising the Russians. Add to this a thrilling airborne dogfight between the B-52's high-tech weapons and an eager MiG-29 pilot and you have a faultless story you will want to savour again and again. The plot is simple - the Russians build a laser weapon which can neutralise America's strategic capability, and it's up to the Old Dog crew to destroy it. Although the Soviet threat is a bit outdated, it still makes for an entertaining read.
Rating: Summary: THE BEGINING OF AN OUTSTANDING STORY LINE Review: DALE IS WITH OUT QUESTION ONE OF THE GREATEST HIGHTEC WRITERS EVER. HE USES HIS FLIGHT CREW BACK GROUND TO KEEP IT VERY REAL, BUT HIS IMAGINATION AND STORY TELLING MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT THERE IN THE ACTION. EVERY ONE OF HIS BOOKS IS JUST AS GREAT. I'LL BUY EVERY BOOK HE WRITES.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book!! Review: Even though it is Brown's first book, it is definitely one of his best! Prepare yourself for a thrilling, action packed ride through the Soviet Union. This is one of those books where everything could happen tommorow (Except for the fact it takes place in the USSR), and it keeps you in suspense to the very end. All of the characters will come alive for you, and you will feel genuine hate towards the USSR. I guarantee you will love this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent description of air crew life. Review: Fantastic flight sequences. Makes you feel like you are almost onboard. The politics, hi-tech jargon and see through characters with the 1950s military propaganda (we are the best) attitude is a bit much. For true flight freaks
