Rating: Summary: I thought it was excellent Review: I'm in year 10 and I thought this was a really good book. I read it in four days and could not put it down. For me that is quite amazing as I usually don't find many books that I enjoy. I have just started reading the the Third Twin and so far it's great.
Rating: Summary: HISTORICAL DRAMA AT ITS BEST Review: If you enjoyed Pillars of the Earth as much as I did, then you're going to enjoy this book as well. As with Pillars, the action starts from page one and keeps going - his focus on pacing is what sets him apart and what makes his books so much fun to read. A few reviews tied the story to Far and Away (the Cruise/Kidman flick), in my opinion I think that's quite a stretch - this is not a love story first and a quest for freedom second tale - it's a little of both, but it's mainly about the struggles of the classes. I you already like Ken Follett, then you must read this outing. He keeps the pages turning and his eye on historical accuracy is dead-one (he's been guilty of gross anacronisms in a few of his works). If you haven't read his books, then give yourself a treat and pick this up, I promise you won't be bummed. After that, read Pillars of the Earth, which is probably one of the best books out there (check out all the reviews - many feel the same). Enjoy!

Rating: Summary: Fight for your ideas Review: It is a story to relax and read, is not the best of Ken Follet but is not a bad story, with this book you will learn how some people want their freedom at any price and some people just want to be or do what other people say, no matter if it is a man or a woman.
Rating: Summary: Read it, live it, love it Review: It's great. Just great. Nothing more to say
Rating: Summary: Another Follett trophy! Review: On the heels of "Pillars of the Earth" and a "Dangerous Fortune", I was somewhat skeptical that Follett could do it again, but he did! Follett gets a hat-trick with his latest novel, which recounts the hapless tale of two 16th Century Scot oppressed and enslaved orphans. This book has something for everyone: Intrigue, suspense, romance, lust, greed, betrayal and misery...and that's only the first chapter!
Follett is a master at painting pictures with words and this a "must read" for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
Rating: Summary: Lizzie Put It Best Review: RE: AUDIO TAPE VERSION. I love Follett - when he gives his best effort that is - but this novel smells like quick paycheck. Forgettable characters and predictable action leave the reader with the same response that heroine Lizzie has to her wedding night: Is that all there is? The weak title should have been a clue that this would be a second-rate effort. For a much more compelling period piece from Follett, try the excellent "A Dangerous Fortune".
Rating: Summary: The Best Read Ever Review: The book called "A Place Called Freedom" is not a book for the faint of heart. The book can tear the breath away. The read is easy to follow. If that makes you stop reading it then how about the two excapes, one attempted murders, a murder, three killings, a cole worker gone bad, one strike, meny love scenes, and the lust of two people that live a life that cant be with the wealthy. Taking place in the land of the cole, Scotland, one year before the 'rule of the king' is broke with England, and ends up in the North of the Georgia. If you think that you cant have your breath taken away, try reading this book with out changing your heart beat. Take this book and read it. Your may breath now.
Rating: Summary: Not his best but good Review: The story was enjoyable, the characters a little too predictable, but I have read it twice now so it must be pretty good. I don't read books twice very often. Malachi (Mack) McAsh and Lizzie Hallim are the two main characters. The story begins in Scotland. Mack is a coal miner and Lizzie is the daughter one of the lairds, a widow. Lizzie's mother has mortgaged her property so they could live well after Lizzie's father dies and now the loan is about to be called. Lizzie needs to marry into a wealthy family to save her family estate. The coal miners were really not much better than slaves basically owned by the mine owners. Lizzie and Mack had known each other as children and now they are adults. Mack gets into trouble regularly and Lizzie helps him more than once. The story ends in the Colonies specifically in Virginia. The book is fast paced and keeps you interested all the way through. It is a little too predictable but if you like Ken Follett you will like this book. It has elements of historical fiction and maybe even a little bit of a romance novel in it. There is some sex (although not too graphic) in it so I wouldn't necessarily let preteens read it.
Rating: Summary: another good book from follett Review: this book is another winner by a great aothor.it has good characters that are real and likeable. its not as great as pillars of the earth or a dangerous fortune, but its very enjoyable.
