Rating: Summary: Tar heels are really a lot nicer! Review: I had expected another Bone Collector, or even a Coffin Dancer and, sad to say, I was disappointed - this time. While Deaver does very good research, this time he fails as far as the local yokels are concerned. An entire cop collection in on mass murders? Please have a heart; less would have been better. BUT: Deaver shines when he describes the swamps and the horror of hornet stings (I will never again come near a hornet's nest!). And again we have the rushed, super-twisted ending. Would I buy this book? No. But I have enjoyed a substantial three-quarters of it. Please, Mr. Deaver: next Rhyme book --- take it s-l-o-w.
Rating: Summary: Another enjoyable light read Review: Picked this one up after finding myself bereft of reading material before another long trip - wound up being glad I chose it. Deaver has written a light but yet engrossing mystery, full of terror and enough plot twists to keep me satisfied! It's really those last 50 pages...they were so chock full I went back and read them again. I'd definitely recommend this for travelers or some light summer reading.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad thriller, but ending not up to par. Review: It's the last night of the 20th century, and the Digger has instructions to kill at 4:00PM, 8:00PM,and midnight. That is, unless he gets a message from his partner. However, after delivering the ransom note to Washington DC mayor Jerry Kennedy, the Digger's partner is victim of a hit-and-run driver and dies. The FBI knows the Digger will keep killing until he's found and they must race against time to find out where the Digger plans to strike.Deaver is a good writer. I've enjoyed his "A Maiden's Grave" as well as the Lincoln Rhyme series. He introduces some a new set of characters in this book who are well drawn. The plot moves along well until the end. I won't reveal it, that wouldn't be fair, but it seemed a bit contrived to me. I don't feel Deaver laid enough groundwork for the ending, and I also think he intentionally mis-leads the reader in the beginning of the book in order to make the ending work. This is not fair play for an author. I've seen this in at least one other of his novels and I hope he doesn't make it a habit. This isn't a bad book but I don't think it's as good as "A Maiden's Grave".
Rating: Summary: Lucky find on the airlines... Review: If I hadn't found this novel by accident in the front storagepocket on the airline, I would never have read itDespite not being a murder mystery reader, I was truly captivated by the well developed characters and twisting plot. Who knew so much could be deduced from a single handwritten note? It made a boring flight pass so quickly that I've order two additional Deaver novels for upcoming trips. END
Rating: Summary: Another all-nighter! Review: Be warned --- if you start reading too late, don't plan on sleeping. And, forget about going to work the next day because you'll be too tempted to call-in-sick so you can finish the book. I loved the guest appearance by Lincoln Rhyme. His new character Parker Kincaid has some interesting moments with Ms. Lucas. I felt the sparks and hopefully a sequel or even better an entire series!
Rating: Summary: Another Great Deaver book Review: Let me start with the negative. This story line towards the end falters slighty as it becomes a tad unbelievable. It seems as if he struggled a little in ending the story. Fortunately though, the one negative is out-weighed by the positives. Deaver has created another page turner of twists and turns. This time pitting retired FBI document examiner Parker Kincaid against a maniacal killer who's been unleashed on Washington DC on the eve of the new millenium. The madman, who conrols the killer and has set deadlines for ransom money, has been accidentally killed. Now Parker, teamed with a combined force of FBI and DC police, sets off to battle the killer as well as his own personal demons. With little clues to help, the must find and stop the killer before the next deadline which approaches ever so quickly. Once again Deaver creates charcters that grab your attention, making you feel for them and bond with them. You are instantly drawn into the story from page one. A quick and enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: To tell the truth, I have never heard of the author, Jeffery Deaver, before...But upon reading the novel, I was surprised at the writing style, which made for light reading. The story was well-written, and kept me engrossed throughout. Although some twists were rather expected, Deaver obviously expected his readers to expect that (! ) and has even more twists at the end. Sad to say, like most authors, the endings are hectic, like being rushed through to complete the book. Still, it is a great book, and anyone who even likes studying handwritings or psychology should get it.
Rating: Summary: A lot of twists and turns....holds your interest. Review: A lot of twists and turns....holds your interest and keeps you turning pages. Many parts are a little too detailed which slows the book down at parts. However, overall an excellent book.
Rating: Summary: Deaver continues to put out winners! Review: This is my 4th Deaver book and I have to say that this one grabbed me like A MAIDEN'S GRAVE. The whole idea of one criminal dying while the other continues to kill and can't stop until he hears from his partner is frightening. Parker Kincaid is a solid character and I'd like to see more of him. Seems that the non-Ryme books are a bit more original than the former's series. This one had me sitting up late at night reading until I couldn't stand it! A lot of knowledge about document handling is presented and the final reslovement was brilliant and unforseen. Deaver is, right now, an obsession of mine and I am curently reading his latest, THE EMPTY CHAIR, while hunting down any/all of his other books. Do yourself a favor and read this and any Deaver book. highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: As good or better than the Lincoln Rhyme series... Review: Deaver is great! That is all I can say after finishing four and a half of his novels in three weeks (Praying for sleep was unreadable). In Devil's Teardrop we have as much action as in the Rhyme series and we even get the added bonus of a Lincoln Rhyme cameo appearance for one chapter, I found this to be a great shot because it adds to the aura of illusion that Deaver's world is real. Deaver reminds us in this chapter that while former FBI agent Parker Kinkaid is busy trying to follow clues and close the gap on the Diggerin Washington DC, Lincoln Rhyme is in New York dealing with his own life. I thoroughly enjoyed this small detail. Now about the story, this novel has the classic Deaver's twists. For about twenty pages I actually thought that I had finally figured out one of his twists and was celebrating that I had outthought Deaver, but after twenty pages I found out that as always Deaver had fooled me, I was wrong. The great thing with this novel is that with 60 pages left the crime is solved (I don't want to give out too many details)and you just wonder what does Mr. Deaver have up his sleeve this time, and at that time is that the real rollercoaster gets started. This book is great. It ranks right up there with The Bone Collector and the Empty Chair. The Coffin Dancer is the only one that to me still stands ahead of the pack. My recommendation is to definitely read this one it is very well written and you get more of Deaver's insight on criminal investigations this time with a special enphasis on document examinations. Believe me this book is enjoyable and unpredictable. Definitely Buy, Buy, Buy and Read, Read, Read.
