Rating: Summary: Bad....could have been good. Review: The book started out good and then fell apart. There were far to may holes in this book, and the ending seemd rushed and not thought out at all.Although when first reading the plot seemed very interesting, but after reading.....and reading.....and reading you realized that it was a bit to much. The development of the characters were great as usual with Deaver's, but to actually think that the FBI could be so careless is crazy. Hoping that The Empty Chair is better, because that read was STRIKE ONE.
Rating: Summary: A Page-Turning Thriller Review: This was the first book by Jeffery Deaver that I have read, it won't be the last. I will not go into plot or characters, but I will tell you that time will fly by as fast as the pages do. You will have to watch out for paper cuts during the last 50 pages or so. Read It. Plain and simple.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: My parents told me to get this book because they each read it in one day. I was not dissapointed. This is a fast-paced intriguing book that I also would have read in one day if it hadn't been for the fact that I was out of town visiting people when I bought it. To summarize what happens, without spoiling anything, a maniac (the Digger) goes to a subway station in Washington, DC and starts shooting his machine gun, killing at least two dozen people, on New Year's Eve. Minutes later, another person leaves behind a note asking for money and warning that he's the only one who can stop the Digger, who will keep his shooting sprees in different locations at different hours. Unfortunately, this person is accidentally killed, so it is up to a retired agent to find out who the Digger is and stop him before he keeps killing.
Rating: Summary: Well-written and exciting but some weak spots. Review: This is the first Deaver book I've had. It was exciting to listen to and not as graphic as I'd expected. However, some of the events just didn't seem possible and the ending -- the person who finally shoots the Digger -- didn't ring true. Did the author get tired and write an easy conclusion? I think so. Still, a good "listen" during my commute.
Rating: Summary: A good fun read Review: Jeffrey Deaver is a very good writer who can usually be counted on for a fun read. This book is no exception. Although it doesn't display the brilliance of his Lincoln Rhyme books, this is a solid and quite well-plotted story. It's a fun, easy read, good for an aeroplane or bus ride (I read it going from Oxford to Cambridge in England, where it made a horrible 3.5 hr ride bearable, but that is a longer story ;-) Only two minor criticisms: It contains the usual Deaveresque plot twists, revelations & surprise turns, but is a little too easily-guessed -- my guess is that the formula is wearing a bit thin, so that those who have read all of his other works know what sort of thing to expect. (This obviously won't apply to new readers.) Secondly, Deaver's main characters tend to be a little too omnipotent & powerful -- this is evident here, in both heroes & villains. I tend to find his stories more engaging when you know that neither a good nor bad guy can simply waltz out of a problem situation. Three and a half stars.
Rating: Summary: what if? Review: Jeffery Deaver knows how to keep the pages turning. his delving into the physiological and forensic side of the criminal mind is supberb. He can do this and also keep character development growing with the story line. A great book and I highly encourage reading his works.
Rating: Summary: Not his best Review: I liked the book but it was not his best work. Coffin Dancer and The Bone Collector were more suspenseful and had endings with more twists.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad read, but not a great read Review: The Devil's Teardrop just did not live up to The Bone Collector (one of the best novel) or The Empty Chair but it was still great to read because of Mr. Deaver's trademark of suspense and twist of the plot when you thought you have it figured out. He keeps you guessing and this book is no exception but I feel the book could of been better. It started out with a bang then slows down and starts up again. I still recommend it to anyone. I'm just looking forward to the next Lincoln Rhyme novel because those never disappoints you.
Rating: Summary: MILLENNIUM MADNESS... Review: Author Jeffrey Deaver does it again! This is an immensely entertaining, page turning read for all thriller enthusiasts. The story line centers around an unknown killer unleashed upon Washington, D.C.. Known as the "Digger", this maniacal killer proceeds into D.C.'s Metro Station at 9:00 AM on New Year's Eve 1999 and begins a shooting spree that leaves many dead. The Digger has been instructed by an unknown criminal mastermind accomplice to kill hordes of people at clocked intervals on the eve of the millennium, unless a twenty million dollar demand for ransom is met. The ransom note is the only communication from this criminal genius who alone can control the actions of the killer. D.C.'s mayor agrees to pay the staggering ransom, but on the way to the drop, the accomplice appears to have been killed in a freak traffic accident. Who can now stop the "Digger" from his appointed rounds? Enter Parker Kincaid, document examiner extraodinaire and former FBI agent. Kincaid has been called back as a consultant to assist the FBI who need to stop the killer before he kills again. Kincaid is a wonderful, fully fleshed character. A single parent with his own share of troubles, he is as interesting as is Lincoln Rhyme, another of Deaver's characters around whom several of his books have revolved. Interestingly enough, Rhyme has a cameo appearance in this book which should give Deaver's fans an added kick while reading this book. Like Rhyme, Kincaid is a master of deductive reasoning and is a thinking person's detective. It is interesting how his analysis of the ransom note provides clues for the FBI to follow up in their quest to stop the killer before it is too late. The book is filled with numerous plot twists and turns which should provide even the most jaded devotees of thrillers with a satisfying read. This action packed book keeps the reader guessing. Just when you think it's all over, you are yet once again surprised. The only criticism is that the end of the book strains the imagination. It almost borders on the absurd. Yet such is Deaver's writing that this does not impact unduly on the absolute enjoyment one will get from reading this book. It is a riveting read!
Rating: Summary: Very Satisfying Review: This book got my attention from the first chilling sentence, until the very end. In fact after the first major twist, about 300 pages into the book, I had to go back and re-read most of the book to check how it hung together, before continuing to the end. And the ending was great. I have to read more of his work.
