Summary: A trite, predictable book...
Review: What a disappointment. This trite, predictable book reads like a novel written by a lovesick teenage girl. The story is banal, the writing poor (no comment on the translation - I read it in French), and the ending is so ridiculous that it makes the few hundred pages that lead up to it seem like a waste of time. In addition, it doesn't seem as though the author knows much about go; I play go, and her descriptions ring false.

Go for Dai Si Jie's Balzac; another Chinese author living in France, Dai has a lot more to say and says it infinitely more adroitly.
