Summary: The Warmest December!!
Review: This was a great book! I loved this book! Even though the storyline was sad - it was a wonderful story....It's about a woman that has grown up hating her alcoholic father. The story unfolds describing the abuse that her family suffered day in and day out at the hands of the father - abuse that was so real, the mother and the daughter become alcoholics themselves....
I can't say enough about this book....Read It!

Summary: A Great Display of Strength and Understanding
Review: This was a very good book. Some of life's experiences can bring about much displeasure and bitterness. Some of us are fortunate to find out why a person treated us badly and find room in our hearts to forgive. Others are not and we walk around carrying that hatred for a very long time and in the end we hurt the ones we love. Kenzie displayed a great deal of strength, understanding and love.

Summary: Spellbound
Review: This was a very profound book. It touched on a level that is beyond words. The pain of this family was as if the author knew this from personal experience. The pages just flowed. It was hard to put the book down. I was not impressed with the ending. I would have liked to know about the brother before last few chapters of the book but I understand why she chose to do that. All in all I think this book is worth reading.

Summary: Very good but sad book
Review: This was an excellent read. It was a little depressing but I would recomment this book to friends. This book is about spouse/child abuse, the ways alcohol affects a family, and how one is raised can affect how they raise their children. The father was a jerk but in the end you learn why he treated his family the way that he did. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

Summary: A must read...
Review: This was fantastic reading. Ms. Mc Fadden's style of writing is such that it captivates you from the very first sentence. It made me think about my relationships with my family and friends and has changed my life for the better. A definite must read.

Summary: So impressed....
Review: This was my first time reading one of Ms. McFadden's novels, and I was so impressed. Her style is so beautiful, lyrical and unique. She totally capitivated me with the way she pulled me into the word of Kenzie. I was crying from the moment I read that first poignant line, till the last earth shattering word.

I must admit that parts of this book was so strong, I had to take breaks before moving from chapter to chapter. Kind of like catching my breath in a way. But one reason I know this was a literal masterpiece is because to this day, even after having completed it 2 weeks ago, I still think about it, I still quote some of my favorite phrases from it, like, 'We danced, the wind and I'. *sigh* This was just a beautiful book, and I want to thank the author for this gift.

I look forward to reading Sugar, which is the next read on my list.

5 stars, and if I could give it more, I would.

Summary: To forgive or not to forgive
Review: Warmest December is the story of Kenzie, who grew up with a very violent who drunk a lot. He beat Kenzie, her brother and mother. Now years later Kenzie visit her father every day where he is slowly dying at the hospital. Kenzie dosen't understand what makes her go seeing how he abused them. Most of the book is Kenzie thinking back on her childhood day's with her very violent father. I throught the book was very well put together, know nasty sex scenes of so many today. I kept waiting to get to the end of the book to see what happened to Kenzie's brother that she kept mentioning. A book worth your read.

Summary: You Never Know Where and When You'll Find Yourself
Review: With a lyrical persuasiveness I was pulled into the world of Kenzie Lowe where I remained until the very last page was turned and like Sugar and This Bitter Earth, this story reverberates through my mind still with a harrowing echo.

It's not everyday that one runs across a novel composed with such imagery and depth. The tone Ms. McFadden sets in this title is inexplicable, deep and dark her writing style is potent, yet delicate. I commend her for tackling such demons as alcoholisms, abuse, prostitution, etc., and it is evident that a great deal of effort went into this prose which makes me appreciate it all the more. This is an extremely worth while read.

Summary: A Giant Leap
Review: With the Warmest December, Ms. McFaddens writing has joined the likes of sister Toni Morrison. Both authors weave tells so vivid that a reader cannot help but feel all the emotions of the characters. at times i was tempted to but the book down because of the descrpition of the fighting. in the Warmest December i couldnt help but feel the the blows that Kenzie took form her father, the hate she felt for Gwenyth and Hy-Lo and the sorrow Kenzie held for her mother. The use of the hospital (with it being a depressing place), the nurse and the meetings to bring forth memories of Kenzie's past was great. But it was a shame that ONE person (already in hell) took an entire family through hell.......and im not talking about Hy-Lo, im talking about his mother!!! while Hy-Lo was not a strong father figure, there really wasnt a choice for him. he just did what was shown to him. and this was passed from family member to family membe until one comes to grips with reality.

Sugar is a great book but this, in my eyes, is a work of art. Ms McFadden keep up the good work. i look forward to you next novel.
