Summary: An Extraordinary Book!
Review: I first read this book over 20 years ago. I've never read a book like it. It is so captivating. I never wanted to put it down. Over the course of over 20 years, I've read this book at least 10 times. I am reading it again at this very moment. To be transported to the past is one thing, but to be transported and live the life of your grandmother, while your grandmother is now living your life is quite another! As I read the book, I felt that I had been transported in time right along with Brandy and Shay. Shay, Brandy, Corbin, Thora K., Rachel, and the Maddons, were characters that I've never forgotten since I first read the book. I never wanted the book to end. I think this would make a great movie. Perhaps a mini series would be better. I don't think that a 2 hour movie could ever do the book any justice. Marlys I hope that you are reading these reviews. You are a remarkable author and I "thank you" for writing The Mirror.

Summary: I'm so glad I've found it!
Review: I have been looking for this one for a long, long time. It is one of my favorites. My original copy was borrowed and never returned, and I didn't think I would ever find another one. I'm so glad I was wrong. You need to read this one.

Summary: An interesting tale, don't miss it!
Review: On the eve of her wedding, Shay looks into a very ugly mirror that is a family heirloom, and finds herself waking up on the floor of her room. But wait, it's her room but where is the carpet? She finds herself trapped in the body of her Grandmother, Brandy, on the eve of Brandy's wedding. To all else she is just crazy Brandy, and the differences between Shay and Brandy (like Shay loving milk where Brandy always hated it) go unnoticed or written off to Brandy's unstable character. Brandy/Shay is promptly wed and sent away from the only familiar place Shay knows, to a small cabin in a remote town. Here she starts her new life as Brandy, living with Thora K., one of the books most endearing characters.

Shay must adjust to a world almost 100 years in the past, and adjust to her life as Brandy, while still trying to coax the mirror into returning her back to her modern life and self. That the mirror is evil becomes apparent, but that doesn't stop Brandy from trying until she realizes finally that she belongs where she is.

The book has 3 basic parts: Shay living her life as Brandy, the life of Rachel her mother/daughter, and Brandy living her life as Shay.

I first read this book a long time ago, and I still have my original copy. I have re-read it many times, each time as enjoyable as the first. This is an excellent book, wonderfully written. It has a lot of humor in it which I found refreshing. I definately enjoyed the first part of the book, Shay as Brandy, better than the latter half which was Brandy as Shay. The characters in the latter part lost a lot of the luster and depth that her characters from the past had. Still, an excellent read. I recommend it.

Summary: Honestly , the best book I have ever read
Review: I read this book over 20 years ago and have always considered it the best book I've ever read. I lost my first copy and then spent years looking for another. I tried all the major book stores in the malls and finally got a copy from a local library. I have had both of my daughters read it and they loved it as much as I did. I am so glad to see it back in print. I will be buying a new copy to cherish and share with my granddaughter. I have read other books by Marlys Millhiser and enjoyed them all. Years ago I wrote a letter to the author to thank her for this wonderful book. I knew she lived in Colorado but did not have her address. I hope she reads these reviews and realizes how much she has touched the lives of others with this unforgettable book. Thank you Marlys.

Summary: What a wonderful read!
Review: This is the first of Maryls books I ever read and I couldn't put it down! (I have since reread it many many times and love it still!) There's nothing better than a good story that makes you 'believe' it was REALLY happening only you find the story is over and your mind makes you wonder, was this fact or fiction?

As a lover of history, I was pleased with the small 'facts' tucked away and am jealous as I would LOVE to travel back in time but don't know if I could handle meeting my ancestor so well! Thanks so much Maryls!!

Summary: MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME!
Review: I read this book back when I was in High School and fell in love with it. Then the book disappeared. Alas, right after I was married, I found another copy. Reading it again made me realize that this book would become one of my most valuable treasures. Since then, I've read the book over 10 times. It is a must for any reader both young and old. Marlys Millhiser has made these characters so real that you want them to go on and on. I was hoping that the author would consider writing another. Don't miss out on this one!

Summary: Magnificent Treasure
Review: This is one of the greatest Books I have ever read in my life & I so wish it had been made into a movie. This story has the characteristics and charisma of the finest old classics that have made American literature what it is today. Louisa May Alcot & Emily Bronte, Laura Ingalls Wilder, & Duphane DeMaurier. All the greatest writers of unforgettable classics, All mixed up into one wonderful style and a spell binding mysterious, well planned & throughly thought out time travel. One you will never forget. Don't forget her name because there are many more wonderful novels written by this author. You will enjoy each & every one.

Summary: Remembering After 20 years
Review: I got this book nearly 20 years ago (or so) and have since found it in a used book store on two different occasions. The problem is that I have lent it out so many times I now no longer have a copy. This is without a doubt the best story of the "what if" I have ever read. Most of us wonder what our grandmothers lives were like, Shay gets to really live it. I cannot begin to imagine her wonder and awe as she learns things that are truly new to her, even if they are in the past. You take a 20th century person and fling her into the 19th century and watch her survive, find love and make a difference.

A mirror I would love to have come into my life at 50!!

Summary: Lost in the past
Review: This is a great story--stop there and don't worry about the writing style. The writing is adequate--not great. The story, however, is incredible. The adventure is both internal and external in the sense that both of the main characters can't share their story with many people. Their growth and capacity to adapt to their circumstances is amazing. It was definitely the most fun story I read this summer.
