Rating: Summary: I will never forget Tully Review: I bought Tully two years ago when I was in Rome and desperate for something in English. I spent 4 days glued. Tully came to life, I cried so much, I did't always understand her but who can we completely understand or agree with. Since I have bought 4 copies of the book for friends who have expressed their praise. I have just re-read it and no doubt it will be read again some time in the future. I also loved Red Leaves (didn't guess) and I hope to get my hands on a copy of Eleven Hours soon.
Rating: Summary: It's what you have been looking for Review: Do you remember reading a book in your past that was so wonderful, so captivating, that you are always hoping you will one day find a book that you would love that much again? Tully is one of those books. I've read plenty of books in my time, but only a small, small handfull draw me in so much that I find myself giving up plans to stay home and read - where I can't put the book down and the hours just slip by. Tully is not a book that will take you weeks to read, it is too compelling, you will be looking forward to picking it up again as soon as you put it down! I will not elaborate on the storyline; that has been covered by other reviewers. I would just like to say that Tully is a wonderful book, the characters are fantastic and you will find yourself relating to them in many ways. Some say it was too long, I'm sure most people will agree with me that it isn't long enough! You don't want it to end and the length of the book just means you get to keep these characters with you just that much longer, you will miss them when it's over! Some people comment disfavourably on the style of writing. I think sometimes people should just relax a little and enjoy what they are reading, it's a story; entertainment not an essay! Do yourself a favour, read it and enjoy it. It is one of those stories that you hope to find and think about long after it is finished.
Rating: Summary: Are you all right with the world? Review: If you are then don't read this book! It'll make you want to throw yourself off a clip for wasting your time! As a friend of mine once said, "For the love of some things that aren't particularly holy, but still good" why was this book written?? I found the characters to be one dimensional, unrealistic, and the main character couldn't stop the pity parties long enough to realize that her life is up to her! Not anyone else! I expect characters to grow throughout the course of a book. Well, Tully grew all right. She grew for the worst. She never grew up in my opinion. Not even at the end. The writing was dismal, and did nothing to draw you into the story. The plot was all about shock value. There is nothing to gain from reading this book. It's not uplifting. It's not poignant. It's not worth your time, is the bottom line.
Rating: Summary: But it deserves more stars. Review: Paullina Simons is one of the most amazing talented authors. Somehow, her books always make me cry. They are beautiful and soppy but also terrifying in the same way. I recommend to ANYONE to read Tully and also The Bronze Horseman as they are the most amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing books you could ever read!! As soon as I borrowed it from my friend, I had to go out and buy it, its the type of book you can reread and still feel the same emotion as you read the first time. I love this book and it deserves a hell of a lot more than 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: very enjoyable novel Review: Tully is one of those books that you believe is your own secret discovery, and then you realise that lots of other people have also been reading it and reacting in the same way as you...It's one of those books that you fall in love with, without knowing exactly why, and you return to it again and again. I've read Tully so far at least five times, especially certain parts of it...and I'm certain I'll read it again in the future. But why such a fuss over a first novel by an unknown american author? (whose two subsequent books, by the way, didn't even come close to Tully). One of the reasons I loved Tully was Tully herself: a one of a kind, special woman who grows up under horrible circumstances, but still learns how to survive, and even how to give and take love. A woman who got to me, for some reason, maybe just because she's tough and at the same time very vulnerable. Paullina Simmons wrote her heart out in this book. Especially the second part of the novel is exquisite: in it you'll find a powerful love story, not a soap-opera kind of love story, but a true to life description of people and feelings. People who have to make choices and have to live with their choices afterwards. People who learn that love isn't a moment but a whole process, and who learn, in time, to appreciate what's important. All in all, Tully is one of those books that'll take over your life for a couple of days. So chose a quiet weekend and read it.
Rating: Summary: JUST WONDERFUL Review: This is one of my all time favorites that I just picked up again. It's an amazing, heartfelt story that seems to be at once personal and epic in its scope. TULLY is an intense work that has stayed with me through the years and is always a pleasure to revisit. Highly recommended--as is the rest of this author's impressive body of work.

Rating: Summary: There was no choice for zero stars! Review: I wouldn't have even given it a zero. I'd have rated it in the negative area. -5, hows that?!
Rating: Summary: OYE VEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: What a waste of a tree. From the first two pages I couldn't even beilive that the "Best Friends" were actually friends? Toxic Friends if you ask me. I think the only positive thing about this book was the fact that I'm thankful that I am NOT Tully nor are my friends anything like Tully's "Friends" and I use that word loosely. Tully never lets anyone in because of the awful things that happend to her, but then also doesn't break the chain with others. It's a vicious cycle throughout the book. A complete waist of time. Oh, How I wish I had that time back.
Rating: Summary: Wasted Shelf Space Review: I bought this book when it first came out in 1994. For 10 years it sat on my bookshelf. Just a week ago I took it down and decided to read it.... the only thing I can say is "did I really dust this damn thing for 10 years?" I can't wait for some poor sucker to buy it at my yard sale this spring.... yuck!
