Rating: Summary: Is this book a joke? Review: The overly simplistic and obnoxiously-colored cover that this book flaunts might be the best part of the novel. Unless, of course, you have a wobbly kitchen table, in which case you can shove it under the shorter leg and truly get your $15 worth.
The writing is half-thought out at best, the dialogue is trite, tedious, and takes cliché-abuse to a whole new level. The only purpose this book seems to serve is to confound anyone with a brain as to how someone with so little talent could end up with not one, but three published books.
The first half of the book reminds you of something you would find scribbled by a 16 year old girl on the back of her math homework while she is passing notes in study hall. The second half of the book begs the question, "is there a point on the hierarchical scale of heinous writing where a pen might just revolt, screaming, 'I'm sorry, I just cannot be a part of this!'"
If you are considering purchasing this book, I would advise against it unless you are related to and/or dating the author. Otherwise, if you already own the book, I advise you to find someone foreign or illiterate to give it to. Because after "All That and a Bag of Chips" not being able to read never looked so good.
Rating: Summary: bag not even opened Review: The title of the book was what got me to read it. Venice, to me should've ended up with Craig. Venice got more attention she deserved, it seemed like everyone catered to her. Jarvis was the past not the present. The author used basic sentences, no large vocabulary, and I think she should have used a different title. The title doesn't have anything to do with the book. The book was kind of thick, anybody would think that the author fully developed all of the characters, and she didn't. Could've been a better job.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Drama! Review: This 366 page tome is about 365 pages too long. It is obvious that this is a first time novelist that hasn't learned the art of creating full characters and developing a story line. Lee makes an attempt at chronicling a love triangle that involves three college students; Venice, Jarvis and Craig. You basically know how this is going to end after the first chapter. I kept waiting for there to be an interesting twist or turn, but it never came. It is a good thing that she uses young adults in this book because the methodology for dealing with serious real life situations (marriage, divorce, rape and unplanned pregnancy) is extremely immature. Venice is a whining little chick that "claims" to be in love with two men at the same time, one of whom happens to be her ex-husband. And just to show how unrealistic this thing is, both guys know that she is still intimately involved with the other and go along with it just to win her love. They even go so far as to all have Thanksgiving dinner together as one big happy bunch. The only character that I could remotely connect with was Craig. I felt sorry for him because he got strung along the entire book. Lee makes a routine mistake and ends this book closing with the normal happily ever after ending. Included is a tease for the sequel to this "mess." I can honestly say that I will not be reading it (I literally had to force myself to finish this one.) because just like in "All That..." Lee has given away the story in the first three paragraphs.
Rating: Summary: Yuck! Review: This book ain't nothing but a bad soap opera! It was so long & drawn out that it took me a whole month to finish it. It was so predictable you knew what was going to happen next (which wasn't much). I guess I was expecting something good to come out of this book.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS MORE THAN A BAG OF CHIPS Review: This book is definitely the BOMB!! It captured me within the first couple of pages. Many people are saying that things in this book can't possibly happen but thats not true. Things happen and I was in the same shoes as Venice. You can't speak for all men and say that no man will love a woman thats in love with him and another man. Its possible. It happened with me. I think the book was fantastic. And if you like a book that will keep you on your toes, then this book is for you. Ms. Lee, I give you a lot of props for writing "All That and a Bag of Chips" and I will be faithfully waiting to read the sequel.
Rating: Summary: And it is truly "All That and a Bag of Chips" Review: This book is excellent because it took me back to my days at Historically Black Central State University. I could relate to everything that was going on in this story, as well as the stories about the great friendships developed, attending games and campus events, pledging a sorority, and having great relationships. This book really brought back so many great memories of being at an HBCU. If you didn't go to an HBCU, you really get to understand through reading this book what it was like. I thought that the character Venice really had it going on, and I felt myself vicariously living through her. If only situations like that happened in real life where a girl could meet two very wonderful guys and have them support her the way that they did, oh, wouldn't that be the life. I was very sad when the book ended, and shocked about which guy she ended up choosing. Lee really brought these characters to life, and it almost seemed real. I stayed up everynight til about 3 am reading from the time I purchased until the time I completed it. This is a must read, and I would love to see this in a movie, as well as read the sequel, because it is definitely "All That and a Bag of Chips."
Rating: Summary: Literally "ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS"! Review: This book is indeed a page turner, while reading this book I was so intrigued that I nearly lost track of time, in some instances missing class(smile)! This was a very good book and very realistic I know a lot of my friends on the collegiate level have been looking for something to read that they can relate to by an African American Author preferably a female and by george we've all found it! The experieces that the characters went through wether it be the main character or a supporting one, in someway shape or form I could see alot of things that I have experienced through out the years so far in college and in High School! I would like to thank Mrs.Lee and also commend her on a job well done! To all others who haven't read it yet please by all means go get it. I garauntee you won't want to put it down!
Rating: Summary: not all that Review: This book is really a 2.5 star rating to me. The plot was too predictable, and the writing was much too elementary. I had to force myself to finish this book, which by the way I still haven't and I have owned the book for 5wks now. Normally I go through a good book in no more than 3 days. This is a book I would borrow from someone, not purchase.
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Money Review: This book is so unrealistic. There are a lot of holes in the story. Most of it doesn't make sense.Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Good Reading Review: This book kept my interest. I didn't want to put the book down. "All Thant and a Bag of Chips" is just that. I really enjoyed the way the book took turns that you did not expect. I can't wait for the sequel.
