Summary: The most powerful thriller ever written!
Review: This novel is so moving in its portrayal of an obsession gone wrong. The suspense will keep you turning the pages as quickly as you can. Leroux leaves you wondering about the phantom and his existence long after you have finished reading.

Summary: In a word it is very simply, ENCHANTING!
Review: I was surprised when I found this book in the fiction section. If you like this story of love and decption read it again in The Essential Phantom of the Opera,The Definitive, annotated edition of the origional edited by Leonard Wolf. This takes nothing from the original it just gives some definitions. This is my favorite book!

Summary: Being a Young Reader, I find this book amazing.
Review: Now in 10th, I read POTO and Phantom by Susan Kay both in the 8th. Being young I could appriecate all the hard work and dedication put forth in both books. On March 27 I will be going to see PHANTOM w/ my mother and step-dad. I have been waiting years for the day to come and now that it is almost 10 ways away I can't wait.

Summary: the most wonderful love-triangle of all time
Review: this book an utter classic. from the moment i spotted it i knew i had to read. there was a picture of the grand staircase on the cover and i felt like i wanted to jump into the picture and find erik myself! there were a few places i the book that i found very difficult to understand and i didn't appreciate the way gaston left some of the characters so underdeveloped. but whatever shortcomings he had with the other characters, he more than made it up with his creation of the tragic genius we "phans" have come to know and love simply as Erik. he makes erik so complex and full of emotion that i was quite convinced that was really a living, breathing person. i found myself come to feel so deeply for him that i could barely contain myself when i came to the end of the book. despite its shortingcomings the Phantom of the Opera is a book that once you read it, you will never look at life or love the same way again.

Summary: A Very intense and Emotional story
Review: I have never seen the play of this book but i have seen the silent film but in my opinion i think that neither of them will do it justice.I enjoy The Phantom of the Opera because it stayed intense through the entire book. It brought out emotions in me that nothing else i had read brought out before. The author's descriptions make you believe that you are reading a documented occurace instead of fiction.I have recommend it to almost everyone i know.

Summary: The most fasacinating book I've ever read.
Review: I saw a 1925 (silent) movie starring Lon Chaney called, "The Phantom of the Opera". I enjoyed the movie very much and became interested in the story upon which it was based. I read the book, which is not a heavy read only for the extremely literate, and it became the most fasacinating book I've ever read. Gaston Leroux wrote this story in a unique way, as if it were completely, common, fact. When I finished it, it was easy to convince myself that it was. The suspense in some parts makes it a nail biter. The story was also a far cry from a happy, naive, fairy tale, which is what I always associated the title with. It was a very real life situation. I could feel pity for the vivid characters and their very human problems. When I reached the last page, I didn't wan't the book to have to end. Such was the affect it had on me. I suggest it to anyone who can read.

Summary: classic horror and romance
Review: I just loved this book, and I love the way there is so much detail, and it is written as if it were real. I sypmathised with all the characters, and near the end I was praying that the phantom wouldn't hurt Raoul. It was only at the end of the book that the phantom truly learned how to love, he learned that you couldn't gain another person's love by killing all rivals, or anyone whom he sees as an obstacle. Lereux didn't write this as a romantic story, he wrote it to prove that the phantom existed (which is very easy to believe after all he's written) and yet the romance just comes alive anyway. As well it is a real gothic horror story, you feel scared any time anyone goes down to the cellars. Some of the detail in the last few chapters is difficult to understand, you feel you'd have to be shown what was meant, and everyone else must feel that too, because no filmmaker has shown it successfully. I saw the musical on Monday, and I loved that too, though it was quite different to the book in the second half. I would love to be able to listen to the Don Juan Triumphant, I'd say it would make some great music.
