Rating: Summary: Best of Potboilers Review: "Firm" is very entertaining, and I would recommend it to anyone with a day or two to kill. Grisham writes in a breezy style, and anyone with a 7th grade reading level should not have much difficulty finishing the book in 10-12 hours. I respectfully disagree with Charlie B's review (see below), which puts Grisham in the same category as Michael Crichton. Such comparison seems inappropriate. Granted, Crichton also writes for popular audience, but after I read a Crichton novel, I usally end up thinking about the book, many months after finishing it. That has not been the case with Grisham. We should keep in mind that Crichton was a Harvard Summa in anthropology, and he has a very vivid imagination. Yet Crichton always tries to tie in social and ethical issues or dilemmas of medical/scientific advances or achievements. This was as evident as early as in "Case of Need." I expect some of Crichton's works to be read and debated 50 years from now. But this will not be the case with any of Grisham's works.
Rating: Summary: This is an awsome book, Grisham is the master!!!! Review: The Firm is a great book. Grisham planned the plot real well. I couldn't stop reading it. After I read this book I had to start getting more of Grisham's books. It's hard to believe other people have only given this book one or two stars. So far I have also read the partner and I'm starting the client now. If you like Grisham you'll definitly like The Firm!!
Rating: Summary: A good book. Review: This book is no graeat piece of literature, but it was a fun read. I reccommend it. I also reccommend The Pelican Brief.
Rating: Summary: A dissappointing but approptiate ending. Review: This was my first book by Grisham. What prompted me to read it was that a movie has been made on it. I wonder whether it has the same end. Being myself a lawyer, I enjoyed it and at times felt envious about the hard-work put in by the partners which no doubt was incredible. The idea was good but it lacked suitable action. The blackmail angle ought to have been made more intriguing. The book was too long and at times I felt like returning it to the library. The end though very disappointing was infact very appropriate leaving it to the readers to draw their inferences to be happy or sad.
Rating: Summary: Good, but the ending is lousy Review: This is a great book for any reader who likes Grisham and his theme of writing. The ending was a great dissapointment. I think Mr. Grisham hurried through the ending like he was tired of writing 500 pages of the subject. The rest of the book was great, propelling me thorouh 499 pages.
Rating: Summary: What an ending! Review: I thought this book was pretty good but the end was a let down. In my opinion, the movie was better.
Rating: Summary: Interesting book Review: I thought this was a great book. This is the 2nd Grisham book that I have read. I found the use of a law firm was a fascinating cover for the mob. I just thought the ending could have been a little different. It was good though. There should be a sequel...............
Rating: Summary: the book was great, the movie better. Review: This was his second book he wrote, I can honestly say not his best work. The movie was better.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great. Review: I think I'm among the minority of people who didn't think this book was absolutely incredible. I enjoyed the read, but felt a bit let down at the end. It was good, but not great. Perhaps part of the problem for me was the disappointment with the movie version. If you like Grisham, you'll like this -- that's really all I can say.
Rating: Summary: Good. But not great. Review: I turn to John Grisham for the same reason I turn to Michael Crichton. Generally, when I'm looking for a relaxing read -- something that won't require too much thought or stress -- I pick up Grisham. "The Firm" did not by any means disappoint -- it provided the mystery and intrigue that I hoped to find in it. It was, however, a bit tedious in spots. Perhaps the miserable attempt at turning it into a movie damaged my view of the book. In short, the book is worth the time to read it, but don't expect to be blown away by it.
