Rating: Summary: Over-rated to no end Review: For those of us who enjoy Black fiction, this book falls way short. The word on the street is that this is a great book. Sure it is, if you are a teenaged Black girl. The thing I enjoyed the most about the book was how it reminesced of the 80's. Mostly dialogue and not much insight given by the author.
Rating: Summary: 4.5 Stars Review: This is a very good book, but it can't touch Sister Souljah's The Coldest Winter Ever. Omar Tyree did a good job on the story of Tracy Ellison. I found the first part of th book to be boring, and I was tempted to put it down, but kept reading anyway. I'm glad I did, cuz the book was very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it's worth y'all's money. I recommend this book to teens and adults. Lately, I've been lucky in finding books focusing on the black female teen. If you've been looking for books with the same criteria as this, then you need to read this book!
Rating: Summary: An Okay Book Review: Flyy Girl is an okay coming of age story. The book is about a young girl named Tracy growing up in the 80's. I knew the premise before opening the book, but I was shocked when the story started with Tracy's sixth birthday party and continued in two year intervals. An almost year by year account of Tracy's life really drags the book down. At times the story is so detailed that it becomes tedious. Sister Souljah does a much better job with "Coldest Winter Ever" I do not recommend this book to people who occasionally pick up a book to read, because it won't hold your interest. But if you a person who loves to read and then this book is a good one for a rainy day.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Story Review: I thought this book was good from begining to the end.M y favorite part of the book was when Victor wrote to Tracy and told her that he was in jail.I recomond this book to anybody that likes to read Omar's bookks.
Rating: Summary: Poor dialogue. Trite prose. Review: This book is terrible. The dialogue is juvenile. The storyline is unworthy of my time. I tried to finish the book, but then I thought life's too short to spend time on such dribble. I absolutely love to read black fiction, so I thought I'd give it a try. I just couldn't get through it. I'd recommend Terri McMillan, Eric Jerome Dickey, Sheneska Jackson, Bernice McFadden, Lolita Files . . . among others. These writers are excellent. On Wednesday, I'm giving Flyy Girl to the folks at the recycling center.
Rating: Summary: The Bomb!!!! Review: This book kept it very real. It really expressed the different sounds of the street and it truely was a page turner. It made me not want to put the book down. Overall the book was very very good, one of the best books that I have ever read. Omar tyree is a wonderful writer and i hope that he kepts writing, he is also my favorite. Flyy Girl was off the chain!
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A MUST HAVE-BUY IT AND KEEP IT!!! Review: I grew up a FLY GIRL of the early '80s, I totally related to this book. It is one of my favorites because it brings back memories of the time frame so vivdly. I either experienced some of the same episodes, or I knew someone else who did. If you're from that era-early hip hop fashion and music-this is a must. Donn't loan this one out, people love it so much they don't give it back, I've bought 3 copies already. Funny, exciting, and emotional. It made me laugh out loud with fond memories of being considered "fly"
Rating: Summary: An Exceptional Book Review: This is (in my opinion) a groundbreaking novel for this author. Any African-American female will enjoy reading about this book and dreaming about what it's like to be Tracey. And those who already know what it's like will be pleased to read about some one with their point of view.
Rating: Summary: I have a friend that recommended this book... Review: ...This book was SO poorly written... There were grammatical errors left and right. The plot was incredibly weak... The only good thing was a depiction of the fashion, the hoops the hair, the complexion fixation yada yada... And I was not a child of the 80's, as in it was during my prime, I was born in 82, but I know for a fact that he had some of his songs dated in the wrong year, such as the Mel'isa Morgan song that was actually released in 86 instead of 85 like he said. At any rate, it was incredibly boring, there was no insight into Tracy and her motivations, she lacked humor and any kind of emotion or common sense even, so how are readers supposed to connect to her? And did he truly think that he had to break down terms such as "being played" and "going out", what does he think his target audience is, pet rocks? The dialog and character development were both choppy, making me want to snatch back his degree and send him a copy of, " The Elements of Style."...
