Rating: Summary: FLYY GIRL IS NOT SO FLYY Review: "Flyy Girl" is a very interesting book. This book is about a young girl who grew up in Dimon Lane. Tracy is the main character, I'm not very found of her. Tracy is materialistic. She thinks that she is better then others because she wears the best clothing and every one brags about her beauty. Tracy and her friend use guys for their money and the guys use them for intimacy. This book relates to many girls all over the world that go to T.V shows to reveal to everyone that they sleep with guys for money. Tracy is following the bad steps of her best friend Mercedes who brain washes Tracey by talking to her about guys and how to treat them ever since Tracy was a little girl. She also told her how to get guys to buy her things, by telling Tracy to play with their heads and make them think something else when they're not what they seem. My favorite character is Patti, Tracy's mother. She sets Tracy straight, by beating her up. Even though I don't agree with that, Tracy had it coming. It was like she was asking for it, but Tracy continues to disrespect her mother's rules. Tracy liked guys who looked neat and handsome and that have money. For example, one of her boy friends was a drug dealer. Tracy started to change her ways when she discovered Mercedes sleeping with a guy for drugs in a crack house. I think this is too much for a young girl, but now a day's younger girls than Tracy are doing worse or the same as Tracy. This book shows a good example to these girls out there that are materialistic, looking for the best guys money wise and caring more about the way they look then how they are running their lives or better yet ruining their lives. It might make them understand that nothing is forever and one day they could end up hurt. I think this book is great but Tracy isn't flyy at all because she is selfish she couldn't even take care of her little brother the right way when her mother asked her to.
Rating: Summary: I love Omar's writing! Review: This is the kind of book that you pick up and read when you need to smile. The discriptive chapters take you back to the 80's. I have read this book over and over. The book left me wondering what Tracy would do next. Needless to say, I loved the sequel!
Rating: Summary: TRASH Review: This book was [overated], a total waste of time. There was no plot what so ever. The end was stupid.
Rating: Summary: Let me keep it real! Review: This book was off the hook!..At first I was like how in the world can Omar Tyree right a book for a womens point of view exspecially a teenage girl growing up. All my friends, sisters and just people in general have said this is to be a great book. Oh Boy, is it. Once i got into it I just couldnt put it down. It had my attention from the start to end. I am in my late teenage years now and I could relate to it so much. The book to place in the 80's but I guess the game never changes because I heard some of the same lines and either me or my friends been in the same situtations. I shows you conflicts between her parents and friends so you get a look at alot of differnt lessons to learn. Tracey is truly in the fast lanes and a "FLyy girl". If you dont believe in true love or haven't seen it yet. You"ll find it in this book...This book is good for teenage girls and mothers. -HOlla
Rating: Summary: A must read for teenagers and their parents!!! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I think every one, male and female, can relate. We all were teenagers once. There is no telling how things will be for our children today when they become teens tomorrow. I'm keeping this book to share in the future w/ my children and other teenagers in my family. This book will be my reminder for the things I need to discuss openly with them. Lord knows, I don't want them getting the wrong/misunderstood info from their peers!
Rating: Summary: English 12 Book Review Review: "Flyy Girl" keeps the reader on edge with its depiction of urban teenage life in the eighties. This is one of my favorite books because the main character, Tracy Ellison, has a wild, outrageous, and spontaneous personality perfect for this novel. Growing up with her mother in North Philadelphia, Tracy blames her mother for her father's departure and basically learns "the birds and the bees" from her peers. During the course of her middle school and high school years she becomes very promiscious and her perception of how the opposite sex should be treated and how she should be treated are distorted by "the fast lane" she lives in and inner city life. As she gets older her priorities are recognized and she shifts her focus from boys to college and her future. I have read this book about five times over the past summer and I really enjoyed this book because it is an interesting look at urban adolescent life, dealing with broken families, African-American culture and music, and finding yourself in a world filled with social issues and standards both uplifting and demeaning to a new generation, and because of these reasons this book deserves five stars. Good Job, Omar Tyree, and I'm almost finished with " For The Love Of Money " !!
Rating: Summary: GOOD TO THE LAST DROP! Review: I'M NOT FINISHED YET BUT THIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT SO FAR & I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO GET BETTER. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE BOOKS BY OMAR TYREE. HE HAS DEFINATELY MADE ME HAVE THE DESIRE TO START READING NOVELS AGAIN.

Rating: Summary: the love of Omar Tyree and his books Review: This book was a very good book. The first time I read this book i was a senior in high school. My friend told me about the book and I got it from the library. I read this book in one day....i couldn't put it down. I was drawn in from the very first page and stayed in to the very last page. I started rereading the book again this past year, and it is still interesting. I love Omar Tyree's style of writing, it makes you want to keep reading. The characters are real and can be related to. I love this book and all of Omar Tyree's books.
Rating: Summary: Interesting tale of growing up...... Review: I must say, this book would have been quite intriguing if I were still in High School or Junior High School for that matter. However, I found it entertaining, and had me reflecting on my days growing up, how school was a fashion show and my "fast friends". All in all, its a good book to rekindle those pre-teen and teen years growing up in a predominately black neighborhood.
