Summary: Not what I was expecting...
Review: The lead character's name is Tracy Ellison and this is a coming of age story about her, with secondary plots about her parents and the family that lives next door. While yes, it took me back and I was able to relate to that era of time being a teen in the 80's myself. I was only able to give the book two stars. Tracy had no self worth and no self love. Her father was the worst possible example of what a "good father" is and I do believe that Omar tried to betray the father in a good light. I never understood the reasoning behind why the father decided he needed to abandon his wife and child {yes they got back together after his 9 year absence}. The explanation that he gave his daughter towards the end of the book did nothing to help me understand his actions; as a matter of fact I through his explanation was total BS. My favorite character was Rah-Rah. I loved that little girl and could more relate to her and her struggles with her teen years rather than Tracy. At least she had some self pride.

Over all I found the book to be lacking in depth, character and for lack of a better word just plain boring. I know that this was Omar's first time out of the gate and I applaud his effort; but he has yet to top "A Do Right Man."

Summary: A Look into Urban Society
Review: Flyy Girl is a look into an urban girl's life which is what makes it so intriguing. The main character, Tracy, is stuck between her parents' separation and is surrounded by many influences that effect the way she lives her life. Her parents' separation affects her view on how relationships work and how men act. This book kept me on the edge and I was always trying to guess what is coming next. Tyree did a very good job of constructing Tracy's personality which is very spontaneous and fits the book perfectly. People who live in urban societies have many problems and the author shows how they deal with them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book; I have read it many times. I hope Tyree writes more of these kinds of stories, because I will definitely be reading them.

Review: This a coming of age story. In Flyy Girl, you follow Tracy as she grows up and discover life, love and boys.
Some slow parts but for the most part a good book.

Summary: a flyy review
Review: Reading this book was very interesting, when I first started reading it I thought it was slow and boring. It took me a while to get into it. After a couple of chapters the book started to become more interesting to me. If you are the type of person who enjoys reading novels that are written by African Americans then you will enjoy this book. The book is pretty much about a girl's life, and growing up. It gives in detail what almost every girl goes through as they grow from a child to a young adult.

At the time when I read this book, I could relate to what the author was writing, but now that I am a little older I fully understand and relate to what the main character in the book went through. Some of the obstacle she went through I has gone through, and I am almost positive you have gone through the same things. There were some things that I didn't like about the book. I didn't like the fact that the author lowered the character standards. She grew up in a good family, but she was so rebellious against them. Other than that I thought the book was good . I encourage young teenagers to read this book , they would learn a lot from it.

Summary: Omar Tyree at his best
Review: This book is off the chain.I thought it was a liitle much to be a YA book. But I can definitely relate to how Tracy grew up as far as fashion hanging in the hood etc.

Summary: This is what's really happening
Review: Flyy Girl is without question REALITY! Young girls these days are definitely not playing with Barbies. This book touches on many things like the pro and cons of being spoiled, parenting, and peer pressure. I found the issue of parenting to the most important in this book because Tracey's actions are a result of the good and bad parenting she receives from her parents.
