Rating: Summary: Best book I have read to date Review: I absolutely LOVED this book by Omar Tyree. Growing up in the 1980's I could relate to everything he tried to portray in his novel. I could not stop reading it from day one and have recommended it to all of my friends.I also recommend anyone between the ages of 18-35 to pick up a copy. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever! Review: This book is the best book ever written! It is worth your money. It's very hilarious and is not a waste of your time at all. It deserves more than 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Keeping It Real Review: Flyy Girl is one of the best Black teenage books I have ever read. As an avid reader, nothing has come close to portraying the life of a African-American teenage girl. I could really relate to her situations, and wish Mr. Omar Tyree the best.
Rating: Summary: "Flyy Girl" speaks to youth in a familiar tone. Review: Omar Tyree is one of the most complelling young black authors of his time. With this novel in paticular,Tyree does an accurate job of recapturing the spirit of a young black female's struggle in the journey of womanhood, during the 80's.I highly recommend this fresh, and inviting novel to young ladies (and even gentlemen) of every race who have ever questioned themselves (as well as others) while in the process growing up, making choices, and just trying to live their lives (stay alive). As I young black woman myself, I have found myself struggling with some of the same issues as the book's main character, Tracy. Reading this book gave me insight on how to handle a lot of those problems. It schooled me, and entertained me all at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Reminds me of myself in the 1980's Review: I really enjoyed reading about Tracy's teenage years, her experiences with the opposite sex, and how she matures innto what seems like a lovely young lady. The only problem I had with the story is that it ends with her waiting for a man who is the property of the state!
Rating: Summary: A VERY GOOD BOOK FOR TEENAGERS Review: THE BOOK WAS GREAT!! I FINISHED IN TWO DAYS. I THINK THAT ALL TEENAGE GIRLS SHOULD READ THIS BOOK TO SEE WHAT TRACY WENT THROUGH.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I was hoping for a window into middle class/urban African American life that would artfully describe the desires, fears, and choices that are part of this adolescent experience. Instead, Flyy Girl is jammed pack with flat characters, stilted dialogue, name brand fashion descriptions, and bland sex. While trying to be hip, the cookie cutter plot is really a bourgeois morality tale. I have to contrast Flyy Girl with other poignant and effective novels about growing up and it comes up short. I wish there were more works out there that would challenge stereotypes about African American adolescents, instead of confirming them. That being said, Flyy Girl has clearly been popular with younger readers. I just wish it was better; it seems like a missed opportunity.
Rating: Summary: FLY Y BOOK Review: FLYY GIRL WAS A WONDERFUL BOOK. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I LIKE THE WAY OMAR TYREE WALKS WITH THE CHARACTERS GROWTH, FROM STARTING OFF TRACEY AT HER BRITHDAY PARTY TO TRACEY IN COLLEAGE. I CAN RELATE TO THIS BOOK,TRYING TO BE GROWN AT A YOUNG AGE AND REALIZING THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING. OMAR DID A GREAT JOB ESPECIALLY FOR A MALE AUTHOR WRITING ABOUT A YOUNG GRILS LIFE AND ALONG WITH OTHER CHARACTERS. I AM GLAD THAT THE BOOK WAS REAL AND STAYED REAL ALL THE WAY TO THE END. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT MADE INTO A MOVIE.
Rating: Summary: This was a great book especially for young women growing up! Review: Omar Tyree is a great writer and this book is great for everyone. It shows of the struggles of grouwing up and how in order to succeed you must catch your mistakes and correct them before you get out of line. this book is great for everyone! I recommend it to all readers over the age of 13.
Rating: Summary: FIVE BIG BIG STARS THIS BOOK WAS ON! Review: Flyy girl is a very inspirational and educational african american book. For the young teens of the new millenium and very funny and well rounded as well.Keep on writing great books just like this one. Much props, Rashanda N.
