Summary: A terrific and insirational book for growing teens.
Review: Recently over the summer I began reading alot of books. The book, "FLYY GIRL" was the best book I have ever read in my life so far. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I even cried at the end of this book. Omar Tyree really captures the heart of young teens because it is so real including the situations that the main character gets into and he really uses good imagery. So I give big ups to you Omar. I hope you come out with a continuation of the book "FLYY GIRL". I just started reading "A DO RIGHT MAN" and this is good so far too. 9/11/99

Summary: Banal, shallow, and preachy
Review: Overall, a very disappointing book. The prose was simplistic- most of the sentences had the same boring structure. Tyree wrote a lot of words, but he didn't say much. The characters were superficially developed using primarily descriptions about skin color and stereotypic characteristics. Tyree describes Tracy as an intelligent girl but everything she does and says indicates that she is stupid. Victor is supposed to be worldly and wise according to the Tracy, but he ends up in jail blaming everyone else for what his own actions. At the end, it got preachy when Tyree began to proselytize (through Tracy's character) about what it is to be black and how crime, drugs, and sex relate to that. This was both annoying and insulting.

This book was clearly not of the same caliber as recent books by E. Lynn Harris, April Sinclair, and many of the others written by comtemporary African-American authors.

Summary: This is my favorite book of all time.
Review: After seeing one of my friends reading the book about two years ago, I begged her to let me read it. The only thing that I can really say is that I have read it 4 times cover to cover since then and have been pleased every time. As corny as it sounds, it is my favorite book in the whole world. I share the experiences of the main characters in the book. Its detail and frankness make the book both humorous and sad at the same time...I love it.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read
Review: Flyy Girl was really entertaining and I could relate to some of the characters especially RA RA. I reminisced about my childhood.

Flyy gave me the chance to view other life situations such as Tracy's and her experiences. I was a little disturbed about her father not staying in the house and living on his own, it's either you are seperated or you are not. I think her mother should have been a little more stern about the situation. On the other hand, Flyy girl is a really good read, especially for teenagers 13 or above. Even though it contains alot of vulgarity and sex, we have to realize that there are alot of Tracy's out there who don't end up like her, but more like Mercedes and Carmen, either pregnant or on drugs. I think Flyy Girl can be used as an educational tool for our urban youth. I really enjoyed the transformation of Tracy to a "loose young thang" into a nubian princess. I believe that is what is most important in this book and the fact that she decided to go to college and get her act together. The youth of today must realize that it is o.k. to make mistakes but they must learn from them and turn theirselves around before it is too late. Congratulations, Mr. Tyree. And remember young ladies... u don't have to have sex just too be flyy..... just be yourself and keep your head to the sky.

Summary: This book reallly relates to real life.
Review: When I first read Flyy Girl I thought about my own life. This book really relates to some teenagers life situations. I couldn't put the book down. Summary: this book deserves more than five stars and more cerdit
Review: I am a young teenager my self and at my age in middle school you shoudn't be doing all of that but it teaches us a life lesson and I like the way he writes the book with a lot of details and I had to put myself in Tracy shoes because I wanted to know how it feels to be a teenager in the 1980's, it was a funny and sad story but anyone that reads this book and understand it so well like I did or in your pointof view is a very smart person.

Summary: I've Never Read a Better Novel, Honestly!!!!!
Review: This book has SO MUCH dialogue. I really enjoyed reading a book through the eyes of a teen, much like myself. I could really relate to ALL of Tracy's experiences. This book was just like an everyday walk through the city for me. Every situation was so real and SO ACCURATE!! Omar, God really blessed you with a talent, keep using it!

Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Review: I could not put this book down. It had me captivated from the first page. Omar Tyree writes just like people actually talk and is so wonderful at creating realistic characters. I would truly like to see a continuation of this story, because from my own experience I know Tracy's roller coaster ride isn't over yet. So please, Mr. Tyree, if you are reading this: Please write about the next phase of Tracy's life!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I can relate to all the character was going through.
Review: As a teen growing up with much of the same temptations as Tracy and the other characters in the book , it really helped me decide which decisions I should make in my own life. Omar put a lot of thought into this and it is so very close to reality. Teens all over the country should be able to relate to everything that Tracy is going through in this novel and I reccommend it to all.
