Rating: Summary: Inspirational Review: I first read this novel when I was fifteen years old, and has read more than ten times since. The novel is so real. I, being a young girl of about the same age understand Tracie and all of her problems with the opposite sex. I reccommend this book young African-American of today because this novel is truly a window to our lives today.
Rating: Summary: This books is GREAT, INTERESTING,HIGHLY READABLE. Review: The novel FLYY GIRL was well written with narrative and comtemporary dialect. FLYY GIRL caputers the complete feel and sound of the streets. FLYY GIRL is going to become an urban classic. Look out, Omar Tyree is on a mission.
Rating: Summary: Omar--is he bad or what! Review: I must say, Omar is the bomb! I think this book was thought-provoking and most of all, revealed a portrait of reality. Even though, Mercedes was a sad example, it was a slice of reality. Flyy Girl does both entertain and stimulate..Very good. Omar depicted the 80s to a tee! His descriptions brought me back to old school. I just wished Tracy's mother didn't accept her father back, he was egotistical, moving out then coming back later after he got himself right. O'well, That's men for you! Omar's talent is definitely endless, I have purchased his other novels, do right man, single mom--any opinion on them? Feel free to chat and discuss. I adore debate!
Rating: Summary: The best book that represents young black women Review: Thanks Omar. This book really gave me the oppurtunity to explore myself. I am only fourteen years old at lost my virginity at the tender age of thirteen, too. There are a lot of girls out there that feel like Tracy. PLus there are plenty of young men out there who think they are Victor. This book gives a good explanation of how young black women think, and young black men.
Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Coming of Age Story! Review: I read Flyy Girl a couple of years ago, but it still stands out in my mind as one of the best books I've read. I enjoyed it so much because I am the same age as the main character and could relate to the things she and her friends went through, as me and my friends had the same experiences. I couldn't believe that a man was so accurately telling a girl's coming of age story. It was excellent. While I enjoyed A Do Right Man and Single Mom, I definitely think Flyy Girl is Tyree's best novel yet.
Rating: Summary: No no no no noooo! Review: I agree with B.M. and Becky Sue. I absolutely hate the way thatthis young African-American woman was portrayed. And the ending wascompletely implausible! It is very rare if not downright impossible for a young woman to lead such a filthy life and engage in gratuitous sex at such a young age, and still become somewhat successful. There is nothing entertaining about a young woman behaving as a whore, and showing absolute disrespect for her body. This book should be stripped from the bookshelves before any young women, particularly African-American young women, are giving the unfounded impression that they can live as such and not be horribly punished. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: This book had no point. Review: Summary of Book: A beautiful girl and her conceited attiutude toward others. Nothing that gets you stirring or moving.
Rating: Summary: In Living Color?(no pun intended..) Review: I enjoyed "Flyy Girl" as my introduction to Mr. Tyree's work. Being a child of the eighties, I got more than my share of chuckles from some of Tracy's escapades;not to mention that it was a fairly accurate portrayal, even if not always kind. I look forward to reading more of his work, and believe I will pass this one on to my teenage daughter!
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever Made Review: I really loved the book "Flyy Girl". I could relate to the character Raheema in so many ways i went throug the same things she did in her house and I was also afraid of getting used by a boy so i didn't have many boyfriends. Omar keep up the good work. (Oh yeah i'm reading Capital City and that book is great too).
Rating: Summary: tremendous Review: I love reading this book. I was one of the first books that I read from Omar Tyree. It's my favorite book. I've read it 4 times. Flyy Girl reminds of my best friend who was just like Tracy. I told her she had to read this book, because she was out of control. Sixteen and expecting baby #2. I gave her the book. After she read Mr. Tyree's book. The girl did a 360 degree turn. She went back to school, got her high school diploma, and now she's in her senior of college. I'm so proud of her. Mr. Tyree I just want to say thank you for writing such an aspiring book. Thanks again.
