Summary: I loved this book!
Review: I read this book when it was first publshed in 1993 or 94. What attracted my attention was the cover. The original cover was a picture of a girl with the flyy hairstyle, gold bamboo earrings, and hazel eyes. She looked exactly the way Tracey is supposed to look. The picture reminded me of girls that I knew and even of myself. I'm so glad I read the book. It bought back so many memories of growing up in the 80's. I knew guys and girls JUST like characters in the book. If you're looking to read something deep, you won't find it in this book. However, this is a very enjoyable and entertaining book.

Summary: Almost Real-life Ghetto-ism
Review: This book is almost too far fetched to be real, the more you read it, despite the unrealistic situations, you can't help but be caught up in Tracey's life. I finished the book, mostly because I wanted to know exactly how Tracey was going to end up. It wasn't until the end of the book that I actually began to like Tracey... I thought her to be a really shallow and spoiled girl.... who deserved everything that she got. If you are searching for some deep and insightful message... then don't buy this book, but if you wnat an entertaining read.... where the main character spends most her time as a 14 year old...then go for it. In the end Tracey kind of evolves as a person... but... it taks her so long to get there... you almost lose interest!

Summary: Decent effort just a little flat....
Review: When I heard about Omar tyree's first novel Flyy Girl I was excited about reading it from what I read on the jacket cover. I've always wanted to know what a fly girl's life was like.I was one of the guys that never got a chance to date the fly girl the fancy hairdo's and big earings in high school. Omar does a pretty good job of describing the late 80's fashions and styles, he also has very readable prose. Some of his insights about the life of a young Flyy girl were on the nose. But overall I was a little dissapointed by it. First of all the plot was very weak. I expexted more to happen. I also found some of the messages to be a little preachy. I don't minds a story that in the end provides a lesson I just wish it wasn't done so blatantly. I understand that this is Omar tyree first novel. I hope he improves in his next novels. He does have some talent. Flyy Girl is definetely a good idea, There's a decent story there. Unfortunately the story I was lookng for wasn't told

Summary: Interesting
Review: Let me start by saying that this book was interesting. Reading about Tracy and her life kept me turning the pages, but the storyline was sorely lacking in anything resembling depth. My other problem with the storyline was that scenes just sort of repeated themselves but with just a different boy in her life. After about halfway through, I felt like I'd read the same scenes over and over again, just with a different "guy of the week" in her life at that time. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I were a teenager or a girl but I'm neither. With that said, it was interesting enough to keep me turning the pages but I personally would not recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Ahhh, Nostalgia
Review: What a trip down memory lane! Once, I got over the initial shock of realizing that I'm old enough to be reading books about my teen years, I enjoyed this book.

It was a little long, but overall I felt it was worth the time I invested in finishing it. I realize this book was about Tracy, but I wish the author had spent a little more time dealing with her parents' relationship. It was so undefined, especially when they have another child after the father sets up a seperate household -- and doesn't move back in. What in the world was going on?

Anyhow, I really liked this book. I got a kick out of remembering the styles (gold bamboo hoops and assymetrical hairdos) and slang of my youth. I will recommend it to my 16-year-old niece who is quite the "Flyy Girl" herself.

I look forward to reading the sequel later this year.

Summary: THIS BOOK IS A SOLID GOLD READ
Review: 4/20/00

When I first had an opportunity to read this book, I was in high scool. In fact it was the same high school and neighborhood mentioned in the book. I read this book over 5 years ago and I would gladly read it again. It really holds up as far as story content and images go. I have passed my dogearred copy to all the young females in my family and with a resounding shout- "THIS BOOK IS THE BOMB ON OUR LISTS."

Summary: I would much rather read about adults. THAT I can relate to!
Review: It seemed to me that the characters lacked depth. The overall plot of a story can be summed up into a couple of pages. The purpose for a NOVEL is to expand on the characters that play the roles in that story. The characters in this story were weak. I found myself pushing on "just to find out what happens" rather than reading for enjoyment. I finished it in one evening because I knew that if I ever put it down, I would not pick it up again. The most disturbing thing about the novel is that the author fails to truly dive into the female spirit. There was only ONE strong female in book, and even she was a cliché. As if all strong black people have to wear kinte clothes and be vegetarians. All of the other women in the novel were childish and controlled by the men in their lives. Every relationship in the novel suggested that, "Women do NOT like a man they can control. Men DO like a woman they can control and as long as you sit around and be a 'good little girl' your man will reward you for your loyalty, no matter how hard he played you!" This is one that I'll be happy to lend to a friend without worrying whether I get it back.

Summary: The Flyyest Book
Review: I Think That The Book Is Great And That Omarr Tyree Should Make Another Book Just Like It. It Would Be "Fab" I Give This Book 5 Stars!

Summary: One of those books.....
Review: This is one of those books that you must read if you had friends that were "Flyy Girls." I can relate to this book. I had many friends who went through this, they thought they were the a "Flyy Girl." This book will have you laughing so hard. Bravo to Mr. Tyree for all of his books.

Summary: Extremely Entertaining!
Review: This book is the kind that could have been about friends that you may have had growing up. I could definitely relate to the characters. Because Tracy lacked having a male presence in her home on a regular basis, I can see why she was living in the fast lane. Although I was happy to see that she had matured towards the end, with her quest for knowledge, I was disappointed that she remained with Victor the street thug. Sure he had changed a bit too, but I was hoping that she would have ended up with Bruce or Carl. They were decent and wholesome young men. Anyway, I will pick up another book by Mr. Tyree AGAIN! "YUP" :-)
