Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: How can I rate it less than 'one star'? Blech. Review: I am so angry with myself; not only did I go ahead and buy this dog after swearing I wouldn't after reading her last, BUT, I paid full price for it. Not even full price, but AIRPORT full price. ARG.This is the worst book she's written. It's poorly edited; lacks continuity; written in a context that works against her prior novels (first person, third person); the ending is not only rushed, ill-written, but not even conceivable. Frankly, that describes the entire book. There's no "blow fly" connection to the title, other than a small segue in the beginning that lacks any real connection to the story. Benton - come on, how long are we expected to believe these types of story lines? Evil twins? Mutant genes? Serial killers who refuse to die, and just keep coming back, story after story, all after Kay? Lucy and Marino have enough attitude, and no reality, that their characters are just not believeable. The name dropping (enough with the Mercedes and the MD Bells already). This is a turkey, and I refuse to spend another dime on any of her work. I'm beyond disappointed.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: This Sucked Review: I was very disappointed with this book. It was a let down and left so many questions unanswered. Which I imagine will come out in another book. It was very evasive in a lot of areas and very predictable in other areas. Not as detailed as her other books. She must have been on a deadline, and just wrote anything to make the book sell, because I am sure a lot of people bought this with the anticipation of getting their money's worth.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Insomniac???????? This is the book for you. Review: Ok, let me preface by saying that I swore I would NEVER EVER buy another Cornwell novel after the last 2 extremely disappointing reads. BUT, in a moment of stupidity, weakness and boredom, I picked up BLOW FLY. You know how they say never go shopping when you're hungry cuz you'll end up buying crap you don't need??? Another painfully slow, slapped together and somewhat confusing novel by Ms. EGO maniac. Question.....How could Hairboy just walk out of prison if he was supposedly rendered blind from the formalin? So many questions, so little plot. C'mon Patty, spare us....save a tree.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Guess Cornwell ran out of antagonists!!!! Review: I so looked forward to this book! Was at Border's by 9:30 on its release date to buy it. When I started reading it and realized that it was Chandonne again, I was soooo disappointed. But I kept plugging through, hoping that something would catch my interest. It didn't. I guess Patricia has run her course. Kate Scarpetta totally needs a reworking. When I think back on how exciting her first novels were, I feel screwed out of my $20.00. Oh, well, there's always Dennis Lehane and Jeffrey Deaver to look forward to. They NEVER disappoint me!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: "Blowfly" isn't worthy of Scarpetta or Cornwell Review: "Blowfly" careens in too many different directions. I don't know how Cornwell kept up with all its twists and turns while writing it. Oh, for the days when VA's chief M.E. gets a call to a crime scene and thus begins the process of solving a murder. This novel appears to be the second in some kind of arc Cornwell is creating, with "Last Precinct" being the first. Perhaps Cornwell is taking a page from the "Left Behind" authors' book: string a story out for dozens of books. That's okay. Cornwell can't write too much Scarpetta for my taste, but this Scarpetta, the one in "Blowfly" kind of left an odd taste in my mouth. She was just a little much. The entire book seemed to be a paean to the Goddess Scarpetta. Yeah, she's learned; yeah, she's smart. But she's not SuperWoman. Is Cornwell going to move her focus now to Lucy Farinelli? Will Scarpetta novels fade away and "Lucy Farinelli novels" take their place? Don't get me wrong, I love Lucy, but she's not Scarpetta. Cornwell would do well to get back to basics and what made her a literary icon in popular fiction. If I want to read a labyrinthine narrative, I'll read Robert Ludlum.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Pat, what happened?!? Review: I have to agree with these other reviewers. This book was not of Patricia Cornwell's usual high quality. I was looking forward to reading a new Scarpetta novel after wading through Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed. Unfortunately this book lacked the suspense seen in previous Scarpetta novels. I thought the writing also lacked the edge I have come to expect from Ms. Cornwell. The ending was both too easy as well as unbelievable.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Huh?? Review: I LOVED this series so much so that I marked the release of this book on my calendar. I finished it last night and have just one thing to say about - "Huh?" Where did the crazy hairy guy go? How did Jay get killed- was I reading too fast in anticipation? How did the Chardonne family end up in Baton Rouge? How did Winn know who Scarpetta was on the plane? What was the Dard piece about knowing Nic's mother?? Did Nic ever make the connection between seeing Bev at Walmart and once she was killed at the swamphouse? What...now Nic's family owned the swaphouse that Jay and Bev were staying at? Were Jaime and Lucy once involved? Maybe my ADD was in rare form but I couldn't follow a single thread in this book. I felt like I was reading 60 degrees of separation- is Kevin Bacon around the corner or maybe in the wine cellar? Don't waste your money!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Blowfly - Very Disappointing Review: I was SO happy that Patricia Cornwell had finally gotten back to writing her "Kay Scarpetta" novels. I had truly missed all the characters. But, I was so disappointed in the ending of Blowfly. If I had learned what had happened to Benton Wesley after all this time, I would of been furious. Everyone she cared about knew the truth and kept it from her. This just didn't have Patricia's usual "punch." I am hoping that her next Scarpetta novel won't be three years down the road and I also hope it will be a little more in-depth. I really like the characters in this series but I was not thrilled with the way they were portrayed this time around.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Nowhere near as good as I was hoping Review: I enjoy the Kay Scarpetta novels despite Cornwell's name dropping tendencies. (If one more character is defined by the Mercedes they are driving I may have to scream!) And though I frequently enjoyed this book, there were, regretfully, a few problems. While the story was interesting the flow could have been better maintained -- episodic is definitely the word. And I could have done with less time inside of Jean-Baptiste's twisted and perverted mind. However, the real problem for me was the unbridgable distance Cornwell created between myself and Kay, Lucy and the rest by her choice to write in the present tense. It was as if I were reading a news report rather than interacting with personalities I know and like. Definitely not her best, but an interesting if flawed bump on the road to where Kay, hopefully, is going.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: won't read Review: I haven't read this book, & I love Patricia Cornwell, but after reading the reviews I won't waste my money. I never buy a book before I read the reviews on Amazon.com. Thank you amazon.com for helping me.
