Rating: Summary: What can I say that has not already been said of this book? Review: It was a great read! I could not put it down. I cried and I laughed. My heart ached for the suffering of this author. I didn't want his story to end and I can't wait for his next book. One of the better books I've had the pleasure to put on my lap. I hightly recommend it to all romantics.
Rating: Summary: A Fan Of This Great Autobiography! Review: One of the great books of all times! This book delivers just about everything a book can: complex ideas, a compelling and surprising plot, beautiful language, subtle eroticism and passion, but most of all, the subliminal message, "Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." An absorbing dramatic love story.....and a virtuoso stylistic performance in writing makes this autobiography a winner in any language. Five stars is not enough.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable but True Review: It's hard to believe one person could and does endure all this hardship, betrayal and heartbreak and yet survives both mentally and physically to tell about it. This book will envoke many emotions in you too, and you will be shaking your head wondering how he could possibly still love a women (for lack of a better word) who is so hateful and just plain mean, a woman who never deserved this kind of love and caring. You will wonder how anyone could still love a person who has done so much to make sure you are destroyed. I wonderful story of SURVIVAL, most would never survive to tell about.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book of intrigue and romance Review: When I first read "Banished To The Ribbons Of Concrete." I knew it would be a best seller. I am not suprized to learn that it has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. The story of Jack's plight evokes many emotions from the readers. Your heart will break at his lost loves. You will become indignant at the inhumane treatment Jack suffered by the Investment group and the FBI, due to no fault of his own. You will marvel at his survival skills. Very few people will ever endure the hardship that Jack went through and still come out a winner. This is a true story of one man's journey into hell and back. It is one of the most interesting stories I have read in a long time. Once I started reading it, I couldnt put it down. I can't wait to see the movie. Jack Vink is an excellent writer.
Rating: Summary: An incredible, awesome, spellbinding book! Review: How does this man remain sane with insanity closing in on him from every direction? I had to fasten my seatbelt to discover how Jack managed to survive his incredible road trip!! His character, integrity, values, and endurance were impressive. His story proves that reality is often more bizarre than fiction!!!!Through his journey, I feel as though I experienced The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in America...from sea to shining sea!! He is a GREAT writer!!!
Rating: Summary: What an exciting book and this is no paperback either Review: This book has more twists and turns than the back roads the author takes during his month upon month of back road, backwoods driving. A book with such intrique, you will be glad to finish this book and still be sane. What a descriptive writer and to know it's ALL TRUE. He lived through this. You'll want to take some no doze when you start. Nobody could put this book down....at least till you reach a chapter that falls on Thursday. That is when the "phone call" is made What wonderful true to life reading. I'm just surprised Jack Vink could write this book. Most would think it would be an "after he's dead" anthology. I had to write...expecially not to allow my partner the last word. Roger Cory (...)
Rating: Summary: Be prepared to read....and read....and read Review: This is one of the best "can't put down" books I've encountered in all my years of reading. The author puts on paper the bad luck, the sad the terrifing details of his months and months on the highway in such graphic detail, you feel like your butt is getting sore just from riding along. The trilogy gets more and more interesting until you finally reach another "Thursday". You'll understand when you read it. Great writer. Almost anybody can go through what Jack Vink has, but no one else would survive and live through it let alone write a best seller about it. Get it. You'll be the pride of your reading friends. Gey to know and dispise the "hated" Diane....a woman Vink, you'll come to find, loves to this day. (...)
Rating: Summary: A screenplay writer from New York Review: "Banished to the Ribbons of Concrete" is a book that could be made into a terrific movie. This autobiography has so much excellent discription of events and in the dialogue it would be a natural. I read many books for business and pleasure but this is one of those rare instances where you throughly enjoy every chapter, all 239 of them. The four story lines within this novel are so expertly interwoven the reader is not ever aware of them as it flows so evenly. The author, Jack Vink, can write witht he best of them! All you have to do is read the back cover of his book and you know you are in for something special. I pray he is still not out in the middle of nowhere, lonely in the dark of night, all by himself. This man deserves to find happiness. It is a book to remember!
Rating: Summary: A romantic at heart Review: This book made me realize how short our time on this planet is. No one can turn back time but you can read about it in a book like Banished to the Ribbons of Concrete. It makes you think! Memories are the key to our past as this author so eloquently points out. It took me a month to read his autobiography and I am grateful to have found this gem of a book. This author proves what I have always said, "LOVE RULES!"
