Review: Though very happily married, I thoroughly enjoyed this hilarious book about infidelity from Jennifer Coburn. I loved Prudence's inner voices (her Conscience, Guilt and especially her Inner Male-you can imagine what THAT tells her to do!). I could easily see The Wife of Reilly being turned into a hit movie! Read it and laugh out loud while your husband's channel-surfing. Then pass the word on to all your female friends, especially New Yorkers. The Wife of Reilly is witty, wicked, and great fun!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great dialogue, smart and sassy Review: I'm a writer myself, and I really appreciate good dialogue, believing it can do more to develop character and story than almost any other technique. Jennifer Coburn has figured out the secrets of writing convincing dialogue more quickly than most new authors. At a college reunion, outrageous Prudence reunites with Matt, an old flame - and one thing quickly leads to another. About thirty or forty 'anothers.' As she says, "Maybe that would have been a good time to tell him about Reilly. My husband." Well, yes, maybe so. But if she had, there wouldn't have been much of a book. Generally the technique of an author addressing the reader directly, in 2nd person, is irritating to me, but I fell right into Coburn's confidential writing style. Her heroine (if you can call such a flawed and delightfully irritating person a heroine) has her eyes wide open to her own faults, and I think it's this internal honesty that makes us like her so much. If you like good chick lit, you'll like this one; it's way, way, way better than average.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: At long last: an original chick-lit! Review: I've been disappointed with the run-of-the-mill novels that Kensington Strapless has thus far provided. To this day, Red Dress Ink, and sometimes Downtown Press, had been the only imprint that (sometimes) printed original chick-lit. That is until I read The Wife of Reilly. This novel turned out to be one fun surprise! The story is original and edgy, the characters are interesting and compelling, and the dialogue is sharp and crisp. Prudence Malone is the proverbial anti-heroine. Her actions appalled and entertained me at the same time. When she gets reacquainted with her long-lost love of her life, she agrees to marry him. But there's a catch: she's married to nice guy Reilly. So she sets out to find a new wife for Reilly. She wants to make things right for everyone involved. After all, "Why dump a husband when you can recycle?" That way she'll enjoy a guilt-free life with her new hubby. And everyone is happy -- right? Her misguided attempt to do what she believes is the right thing leads her to self-discovery. There are various twists throughout the novel.I marvel at Jennifer Coburn's ability to create a dark, original and ironic chick-lit. Ms. Coburn is a great new author on the rise. And I'm glad that Kensington Strapless has released such a smart, witty, compelling and, more important, original gem. I shall give this novel the word of mouth it deserves. This book will certainly not end up in the recycling bin!

If you like Jane Green, Marian Keyes or even if your just a female you'll LOVE this book! I laughed out loud and could completely relate to so much of the story even though I'm very happily married. I liked the cover and concept. I am so glad I picked it up. It was a hoot.I am currently fininshing my nursing degree and have little time to read anything other than mecical text books so I was looking for quick fun read. If that is what you are looking for, look no further, this is the book for you. I also liked the fact that compared to Prudence my life seems so in control.I have read a lot of chick- lit and this rates right up there with the best. I look forward to this author's next book. She has such quick wit and a flare for witty dialoge. Move over Bridgit Jones your American counter part has taken over!

It was a fun, fast read - the perfect book to snuggle in under the covers with on a cold winter's night. Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Funny and moving Review: I really enjoyed this book. Ms Coburn has a wicked sense of humor that skewers cherished attitudes without mocking them. This book will make you laugh and look at your life differently.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great Chic Lit!! Review: This is a great read -- from the contemporary cultural references (for once I actually GOT all of them!) to the way our freinds would talk if we were as witty in fact as we are in our heads. There are two types of endings I find irritating: the overly happy ending and the depressing "literary" ending. This book neatly avoided both with a very satisfying ending. Wife of Reilly was easy to read, interesting, fun and witty. I LOVED it! Jennifer Coburn: I want more! When's your next book?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Profoundly Provocative Prudence Review: This is a great debut novel that demonstrates the author has a terrific ear for dialogue and a real talent for character development. By the end of the book, I wished these wacky characters were my friends so we could meet in the Village after work for cocktails. Prudence, who is anything but that, is destined to be one of those great comedic characters of literature who should be immortalized on the big screen. She is intelligent, independent and much more wickedly human and mischievously misguided than Bridget Jones. A hilarious read that is difficult to put down. I can't wait for her second novel!
