Summary: excellent runaway story
Review: it's the classic setup- running away to join the circus- with a twist. a young girl with a weight problem raped under the bleadchers has lost weight and become a new person after an attempted suicide attempt and a stay at a mental hospital. she is faced with her ever present, ever eating shadow of her former fat self who whispers things to her about who to trust and what to do to get revenge. when she carries out this revenge on the guy who pinned her down she has to escape her hometown so she sets off to join the circus. her journey to find the circus is tough and upsetting but she grows up and begins a new life along the way

Summary: Sometimes, a little compartmentalization is necessary.
Review: Most people have conversations with themselves, luckily those conversations are usually silent, internal events. Our interior voices don't disturb us for the most part, and are simply an aspect of the normal thought process. They don't need to have a name. They certainly don't have their own distinct personality. They are at one with us, integrated.

Not so for Faith Dunkle, sixteen years old and troubled by the various ebbings and flowings of her exceptionally tumultuous stretch of the ocean of life. Her invisible, separate secondary persona has manifested as a fat girl who follows her, trailing beside or behind her almost constantly, from her suburban high school life to a road trip to the big top of a traveling circus.

This is a great story, written with a tender, poignant voice. Davis is straightforward, and gives us an enjoyable, flowing read.

Summary: poignant and thrilling modern girl odyssey
Review: once you meet faith duckle and they ghost of her formerly fat self, you won't want to stop reading this book.

funny, thrilling, poignant, this rags-to-riches of the psyche tale takes the reader on an intimate tour of depression, survival, suburban angst and circus antics. faith duckle is a haunted girl physically abused by cruel high schoolers and psychically scarred by parents who don't care, depression and a stint in a loony bin. faith is accompanied and goaded by her alter-ego "fat girl" as she takes revenge, then hits the road in search of love, identity and the highwire.

Summary: We'll Always Miss Her
Review: One last time(sorry about this)

This was my favorite book this year, lyrical and beautiful and funny. It's stayed with me since I read it a few weeks ago. It's one of those books that makes you excited for the author's next book, kind of like Harry Potter does for kids....
There will be no more, but it's a book I'll never forget. Thanks Amanda.

Summary: Elle Magazine Book of the Year
Review: Read it and you'll see why it was the winner. It's smart, poignant, original, funny. And the ending is great. I don't know what those reviewers are talking about, but don't want to ruin it for others, so that's all I can say. More info and reviews here: http://wonderwhenyoullmissme.com/

Summary: Missing You Already
Review: This is a beautifully written, funny book by a gifted writer... Amanda Davis' short fiction collection was lyrical and pleasantly offbeat, and her novel takes that to the next level with Faith, the teenager who runs away and joins the circus. The book is a wonderful read...

Summary: Terrific!
Review: This is a wonderful book, involving, absorbing, original, and totally can't-stop-reading-it! The characters are funny and wise, and the reader is drawn into the story with no chance of leaving until the end, which comes too soon. I also loved Davis' book of short stories (Circling the Drain) and look forward to the next offering from this exciting and talented new author.

Summary: A pageturner with real heart.
Review: This is the sort of book you can get lost in - a great story, told very well, with fully fleshed-out characters and moment after moment of heartbreaking grandeur.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Tender, Uplifiting Book about Choices
Review: Tragedy, yes, but even better, Wonder When You'll Miss Me, is a coming of age story that is tender and uplifting as well. This story pushed at those last remaining teenage buttons my old body still has, buried deep inside. I felt for the characters, I loved the circus story, and I loved the ending. Life is about choices, and Faith didn't fail us there.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Stunning in its utter lack of insights
Review: What a forgettable waste of paper (and my time). There isn't one insight, one surprise, one bit of pathos between the two covers. And obvious? The book practically jumps out of your hands and conks you on the head with its lack of subtlety. If you're looking for an interesting, meaningful and riveting tale about a journey, try Life of Pi. (Or The Odyssey.)
