Summary: Praise for Ladies of Covington Send Their Love
Review: "Medlicott's idea is a winner: women in their twilight years finding alternatives to large group homes or living alone. Solving an all-too-common housing dilemma, the three ladies inspire." --PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY

"...a genuinely inspiring tale...the reader can't help but be moved by the 'ladies' and their progress." --LIBRARY JOURNAL

"...charming, refreshing, and as satisfying and mellow a pleasure as sipping sherry by an apple-wood fire in autumn. I send my thanks and love to Joan Medlicott for this special book, and I'm sure many readers will join me." --Nancy Thayer, author of An Act of Love

"This is a spiritually uplifting novel, showing how three good women, all widowed, all over sixty, learn not only to look back, but to look forward with courage and humor." --Clyde Edgerton, author of Where Trouble Sleeps

"Joan Medlicott's novel is proof that a woman's life begins, not ends, at a certain age, that men are nice to have around, but women friends are indispensible....A satisfying, warmhearted look at friendship that endures." --Sandra Dallas, author of The Persian Pickle Club

"Come sit on the porch for a while with three unforgettable women...listen to their stories, smile at their triumphs, wonder at their friendship. Bravo, Ladies of Covington, I love you all!" --Rosemary Rogers, author of In Your Arms

Summary: Cheers to the Ladies of Covington
Review: From the first page to the very last I just kept cheering on the ladies. Grace, Hannah and Amelia make such vast changes in their lives and become vibrant "seniors". Leaving the boarding house and taking on the task of remodeling their N.C. home, convincing their children they could take care of themselves, took such courage, I just kept cheering them each step of the way. I just hope I'm lucky enough to have such good friends to encourage me, care about me and to be able to offer the same in return. I hope these ladies return with many more stories of their new lives, as well as their families and friends.

Summary: A refreshing read
Review: How refreshing to read a story in which ALL the main characters are older women, women of character and personality. So much current fiction seems to be depressing, or violent, so it is a joy to read a gentle book that shows life doesn't stop at 60, and that joys will match the lows. I highly recommend this series to older readers and anyone who has loved the Mitford books. Covington, too, is a delightful place to visit.

Summary: Sixty-Seven is not OLD!
Review: I enjoyed reading this book. It is a fast read and one that you can escape with on a rainy afternoon. I did find it hard to swallow that the author found the age of 67 to be considered old. She portrayed these woman as more like woman ten or twenty years older then their chronological age. I have woman with in my book group who at age 65 would find the woman characters of near their age portrayed as doddering old ladies insulting. As I read this book I pictured the three ladies as age 77 instead of 67 and this helped me to enjoy the story.

Summary: Too dern many editing mistakes
Review: I enjoyed this book, although I was frustrated enough to toss it several times. WHERE WAS THE EDITOR? When you pay $25 for a hardback book, you expect the author to know: that Tom and Jerry are cartoon characters, Ben and Jerry make ice cream (really, see for yourself at the end of chapter 7), the difference between role and roll when talking about film (she uses role)... I could go on and on. I hope these mistakes will be fixed before the paperback because they really take attention away from an otherwise good book. It's about three women in their "senior" years who, united at a less-than-pleasant boarding house, take an opportunity to renovate and move into a home in Covington, North Carolina. Together, they face demons that have been following them. One is afraid to face her fears and learns to have confidence in herself. One believes herself to be plain and simple and finds love, and one finds passion in the simple things, like growing fruits and vegetables. It's an inspiring story about three women at an age when they're expected to knit and "grow old gracefully" learning new lessons about life and themselves.

Summary: An elegant debut
Review: I found the book warm and witty, and though it seems to be about three fluffy older women, it deals with a lot of serious issues, such as the treatment of the elderly in society, HIV/AIDs, SIDS, abusive marriages, and alcoholism. The three women's survival and optimism is a model for us all, no matter what our age. Can't wait to read Gardens!

Summary: The new- "politically correct"- Mitford book
Review: I found this book so similar to Jan Karon's novels because it delt mostly with the day to day lives of "senior citizens" living in the beautiful NC mountains--except the main characters in THIS book are all women and topics such as sex outside of marriage, gay relatives, and a "new age" faith /religious type attitude or no belief in God is "par for the course" for these ladies. The writing style is very captivating, but I just wanted to go get one my Mitford books to get back to "traditional values"--and not accept "situational ethics" portrayed in this book.I won't continue with this series. Jan Karon come back !

Summary: A book to curl up and go away for a day
Review: I have read all the series and can't wait for the next one. I read these books and wish I was living across the road from the farmhouse. I was sad when the farmhouse was ruined but glad they rebuilt and got on with their lives...I love the books, the recipes and the everyday lives of all 3..I think I am Grace.

It was peaceful. uplifting, and the three ladies all had incredible depth. Their memories and quirks made them more real and lovable. I am recommending it to all my friends as a Mother's Day gift.
