Summary: Great Book
Review: This is an amazing book about life, destiny, fate...every element of one's spiritual quest. Maybe to some readers, the character seems to be "self-absorbed." But an individual engaging on some type of spiritual quest is more preoccupied with the general questions of life and everything that surrounds it. Maybe to some who expressed their disdain on Sinclair's "selfishness" do not understand the voice of uncertainty. Hesse wants us to think, to challenge what has been taught to us and see a truth within ourselves, not just taking things for granted. The book is a guide to anyone who is willing to take this challenge, to anyone who are engaging themselves in their own spiritual quest. It is a great book and one that hopefully many will come back to as a guide in trying to find their own answers to life's many questions.

Summary: A WILD TRIP
Review: Hesse will take your mind on a magical journey of light, beauty, fanaticism, and madness. I've never read a book that had more character depth than this one. However, it lacks some tact at times, but if you can forgive the author for some "rushed-stream-of-thoughts" that seem a little crude, it can be a great read.

Summary: Wer leben will muss eine Welt zerstoren
Review: "Wer leben will muss eine Welt zerstoren"

This in my opinion is the key sentence of one of the most fascinating books around, Demian

What in the first few pages seems like an easy well readable story, quickly turns into a web of psycholgical intriges.

Like in der Steppenwolf, Gertrud, das Glasperlenspiel, the main charecter of the book, Emil Sinclair, is not at ease with himself and is looking for something, but he does not know what.

He does however find the missing presence in his life which is Arbraras.

The atmosphere of the book is supreme and really Hesse like. Especially the distant presence of Demian throughout the book is fascinating. The struggle of Emil to breakout of the eggshell to welcome Arbraras into his life is described outstandingly well.

If you like Hesse, you will love Demian

Summary: The Great Book About The Struggle Of One Boy
Review: Wow! As a project for my English class, my teacher recommened a few books and one of them happened to be Demian. Due to me being the average student i picked Demian because it had fewer pages than the rest. Little did i know that this book would literally change my life! Not only did i identify with young Sinclair but i also identified with Demian too. This is a wonderfull book, i think everybody should read it. Just do the fact that it will open things inside you that you have never thought of.

Summary: This work transcends description
Review: I cannot begin to describe the amazing impact this book has had on me. From the first page, I found myself drawn into a narrative that weaves elements of existential philosophy and Freudian psychology into a deeply moving story. The book is commendable for a number of other reasons, most importantly the portrayal of strong male characters that are able to express emotion. All in all, highly recommended.

Summary: One of the greatest Hesse has written.
Review: Demian, the story of Emil Sinclairs youth, is one of the greatest books written by German born Hermann Hesse. It is one of those books which you pick up in the morning and do not let go of until the night. It has many, many situations, which at times all of us have been or are faced with, and I strongly would recommend this book to anyone over the age of around 17 or 18.

Summary: This novel is a very provakative and in depth story!
Review: I really enjoyed the change this novel brought to my thinking. I didn't use to think too deeply now I question everything. I liked the ideas and the imagery that Hesse portrays to the reader. If you want another book that will turn you inside out with your beliefs in god read, Letter from the Earth, By Mark Twain. I know he doesn't sound like a fascinating writer but that story is ... well read it for yourself.

Summary: A great book by a great man
Review: After reading Herman Hesse's Demian i've got this strange and provocative feeling that I was reading about something very normal and usual in my age - at the time I was 18 -, the clash between the values we've grown into and those that are unfolding inside ourselves. Probably there's a Emil Sinclair inside every one of us. This is a fantastic book, not only because is writtten by a man full of knowledge, but also because this is an universal book, for every time and every age. One must read this book in order to observe one of the most fantastic books ever written.
