Summary: A splendid and vigorous American novel
Review: No writer puts it down like Bukowski, all heart and scars, jabs and whimpers. Like Hemingway, he does not mince words -- his verbiage is that of the L.A. streets. "Women" offers a scathing peek at the battle of the sexes, or rather, Buk's battles with the ornery fems who threaten his sanity, and sometimes, his life. For those who know Buk's writing, no review is ever needed. His prose is addicting, funny, and satisfying like a charred rare T-bone steak. But to those who don't know the Buk -- KNOW HIM!

Summary: Pretty damn funny!
Review: My first Bukowski reading. Quite hilarious, although, you need to have a stomach for it, a good sense of humor, and be open minded. Did he repect or care about anything or anyone? I'm not sure he did, but that is what makes it so funny. Not recommended for the easily offended or today's politically correct. Why couldn't we have read this material in school? I probably would've finished at least one book in English if it were Bukowski's.

Summary: the freaky
Review: Don't you just hate it when you're making love, or just plain ole doin' the freaky, and some wack song comes on the radio? Bukowski does. And he shakes his funky leg in this tome. Quite a bit. It's a good read, bit too long perhaps, some sloppy writing on occaision. But what's important is that he puts some blood down. Some of the death terror. Which is good for everyone. And I dig, on.

Summary: Modest Success, women and horses
Review: Although not Bukowski's best, "Women" is full of wonderful characters, hilarious situations and that touch of "I-do-not-care-about-anything" so common of Buk. Recommended after a sentimental depression: it is better and cheaper than a visit to the psychoanalist. And a true finding: Dee-Dee. Anyone has her telephone number?

Summary: Buk Knows!
Review: This is one of the best books I ever encountered! Bukowski is always honest, and he won't disguise himself. That's why I like him. As Philippe Sollers comments on Women in his book titled Femmes, Women is an excellent work, and Buk knows how to present things in fiction. Though Chinaski is always involved in troubles, the author presents him humorously, keeping some distance. This makes Women the funniest book among his oeuvre. But his other novels are also wonderful. Ham on Rye, Post Office, Factotum, etc, etc. You should read at least one of them. My favorite is Women.

Summary: worth twice its price
Review: College Hill Bookstore, Brown University, Providence, RI. I'm a prospective student, visiting, waiting to meet my student host, feeling strange, feeling out of place, killing time. Bukowski jumps out at me from the bookshelf in the Poetry section. Women. I read three pages. I, world's biggest cheapskate and 16-year-old with a job that pays *less* than minimum wage, shell out $16 and walk out of the store with a quick step and a smile. I read it in a sandwich shop and felt like I was following my nutso ex-lover down dirty streets watching her walk away with my furniture. I got drunk. I had sex. I finished my sandwich. I've designed an independent study English class for myself just so I can read Bukowski. I feel like I understand women better now, and I *am* one.

Summary: Bukowski does it again
Review: Bukowski has some ability to write about women and relationships that can consol anyone. Through course of this novel Bukowski takes the reader along through a slew of relationships. Some women he treats well and some he doesn't. I think one of Bukowski's best achievements in this book is his ability to be a creep and a jerk, but still convince the reader to always be on Buk's side. This is written with a clean raw edge that somehow finds a way into fine literature.

Summary: Is this what it's like to be a poet?
Review: Reading 'Women' is a very liberating experience (for a guy at least--I'd be curious to know a woman's reaction). Buk's style is deceivingly simple until you realize that he's changing your perspective on life. The book is a recount of the narrator's escapades with a wide variety of women, and it packs a wallop. I haven't read a book with more sex in it, and it was great! And damn well written. Look forward to reading more by the Buk.

Summary: score 587
Review: this book is the best. i was a drunk, lonely, broke, no job and this book really motivated me. better than the superman comics. i mean to tell ya that this buk brat is a motivator. he should be giving speaches like those other motivators do on tv! Christians should really read this book. Buk gives an inspiration account of the life of Jesus and what it is like to be God Fearing in the 20th Century. Read it now to be better understand God's words!

Summary: I'm not sure but it tastes a little like chicken
Review: Truely the best Bukowski novel going, filled with the ususal antics but sprinkled with deep thoughtful insight into the male mind with regards to the female gender and other social dogmas.
