Rating: Summary: A Rare Find Review: I was quite impressed with the four novellas of love by the four literary gents. Major, EJD, and Harris poured passion onto the page as from a faucet of sweet water. Channer's beautiful prose superseded a need for superficial plot contrivances. In the end, I held in my hand a book I shall never let go. Years from now, when these brothers are regarded not only as popular writers, but as the unequaled talents of our day, we shall remark, "How amazing this little blue book is, to have them all together like that, in one place, for one shining moment."
Rating: Summary: Grrr! Review: I was excited about reading this book of shorts knowing that my favorite authors have yet to disappoint me with their writing. But I was so wrong! Dickey's story left me wondering/scratching my head trying to figure out what's going in. Harris's story annoyed the ... out of me--a grown man getting his pants all in a bunch over some young prostitute. And Channer's story was so bad I couldn't finish it. What's with all the details?! I closed the book screaming because it didn't make any sense and the story was going nowhere. This book got two stars simply because I LOVED Major's story and definitely look forward to the full-length version!
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: Peace & Blessings to four of the brightest and best African-American authors! I have every book written by all four of these authors in my library and I won't lend them out! Keep writing fellas and I'll keep buying!
Rating: Summary: A good read to pass the time... Review: Being a die hard E. Lynn Harris fan, I felt it was my duty to purchase this book. I ended the book wanting more; still thirsty and hungry and unsatisfied. Dickey's story was lame and pointless and difficult to finish. Harris was his usual snotty, wannabe sophisticated buppie gay self through the character of Jimmy. This was my least favorite read by Harris and I can only say that I am glad that it was a short story. It seemed really rushed and quite unreal! A gay male escort who is finer than Jesus himself just happens to be a lonesome, recovering victim of emotional abuse and poverty who just happens to write a novel and the first one sells at a massive volume? Come on... Well, Major's read began awfully slow but was rather pleasant, real, funny and almost uplifting in that I was happy to see a sista not fall for a brotha's womanizing crap as he goes through life thinking with his "other" head! Colin Channer, well, what can I say? If I wasn't a lover of music and the black culture, I would've thrown this book out of the window by the time I got half-way through his story. Saved the best for last? Maybe so, but jeeze, it was long and in some spots a total bore! But I have to admit that his narration of lovemaking got my juices flowing! The most major disappointment in this book was the typos: grammar, spelling, and punctuation! Being an English major, I was appalled at the number of errors in the proofreading/editing throughout this book! Authors with names as prestigious as these 4 men should be more cognizant of what represents their talents, especially Harris, as I've seen such errors run rampant throughout most of his books. Get another editor! Moreover, it's a good read to pass the time...
Rating: Summary: Every Style of Love Review: With such a diverse group of authors,"Got to be Real." The authors cover everything from same sex love to self love. These are 4 of the best writers on the planet.
Rating: Summary: ok Review: Got to be real is a collection of love stories from Colin Channer, E. Harris, Marcus Major and Eric Jerome Dickey. I throught all the stories were good,a little rushed though.
Rating: Summary: loved it Review: was a very good book, though the last story was a bit dry. Ive had the book for a yr now and still have not finished that last story.
Rating: Summary: Well Done Review: Colin Channer is a phenomenal storyteller. A genius at putting words together. In the artfully written novella " I Am Still Waiting" from the novel GOT TO BE REAL, Channer runs a gamut. His use of the Jamaican dialect is magnificent. He speaks in writing about the complexities and challenges of male/female relationships. As he weaves his tale about a Jamaican born music producer, Michael, a young American female R&B singer, Michael's ex-wife Mia and Mia's pompous husband, Channer transports his readers unto the pages and into the story. Sucked up like ink on the very paper the story is written on, this brilliant new comer novelist, keeps you up way into the wee hours of the morning reading until the final page is turned and the last word is read. One can literally feel his love of his art as he exports his passion for writing a good story from his heart to ours. If you must indulge in a good book, indulge in a well written novel. GOT TO BE REAL, "I Am Still Waiting" like Colin Channer's debut novel "Waiting In Vain" is compelling and intriguing - like great theatre. A true literary treasure. Thank you Colin Channer, well done. Nuff Love my brother.
Rating: Summary: Four brothers that rock my world! Review: Let me begin by saying I adore Eric Jerome and E. Lynn Harris and every book Eric has had I have bought...and E. Lynn is now taking that path. When I first started the book "Got to be real" I was like this is not Eric's usual style, the book was not as sexually graphic or "black" as he usual is. Never the less it was a good story. E. Lynn Harris, won my heart over in his story....it held back nothing at all and what I loved about it, he has given the gay man a voice, in his books he lets people know that gay men love and have sex too....thanks for touching such a taboo topic. Then there was Colin Channer and Macus Major, two authors I am not familiar with but can see myself growing to love and taking into my fold....Marcus' story was cool, it was a classic love story with an ending that was left up to you......And finally but no mean least..."I'm still waiting." This story had me ...speechless...It was good as a caribbean reader seeing the Caribbean getting "big up" and it actually had a plot...the climax to me came at the end, when things got heated up....after the sex scene...the taxi scene was the best, the true representation of a caribbean person "pushing in their mouth" in a conversation and the out come, which again was left up to you. Let me give much love to all four authors and hope they keep up the work and let them know I for one will be buying every book they have....
