Rating: Summary: Thumbs up!! Review: These stories were a pleasure to read. While all of the stories are excellent, "Amir & Kenya" by Marcus Major really sticks out. I must admit, I was looking forward to reading EJD's and ELH's stories, but "Amir & Kenya" just blew me away. Men and women can relate to the characters, and the story is touching and humorous. You'll want to by Marcus Major's other title, "Good Peoples," to get to know the characters on a deeper level. Also, anyone from the Burlington and Camden Counties in NJ will get a kick out of this.
Rating: Summary: The Soul of Men Review: In "Got to Be Real", four African-American male authors give us their different views on love and relationships. All four authors present fascinating stories of hard to forget characters. The writing style of these four authors offers up enough variety to keep the reader interested enough to stay up half the night flipping pages to get to the next story. I reread Marcus Major's story of Kenya and Amir 3 times because I worried so much about these folks and what happened when I turned the last page. He wove a story of two lovers who you want to see succeed so bad that you fear the end and yet want to experience the pain or joy anyway. I already preordered his next book "Four Guys and Trouble" due out shortly. E. Lynn Harris shares a love story that also demands your emotional involvement. I appreciate having a deeper understanding of what my gay friends experience and being reminded that love is love. Colin Channer is a new author to me but one which I will continue to follow as his story took me into a land I am not familiar with, but have now developed an appreciation. Eric Jerome Dickey serves up another tale of man's struggle with following a dream and finding the right woman along the way. This book belongs in everyone's library. Don't be the only one without a copy and don't loan it out either.
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised! Review: I'm not a big fan of short stories but I thought I'd read the book because of the authors who wrote it. I was pleasantly surprised by the authors ability to pull off writing short stories on love/relationships. EJ Dickey's novella was quite different from what I am used to but it was a great story all the same. M. Majors was one of my favorites as it had a certain depth and flare to it that really captivated me and made it an enjoyable read. E. Lynn Harris' story reminds you of some of his original writing and gives you very hot degrees of love. True E. Lynn fans will love it! As for C. Channer, his novella speaks for itself. If you enjoy short stories about love, you're likely to thoroughly enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: BROTHERS WITH "REAL" TALENT Review: THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY OFF THE CHARTS. THE STORY KENYA AND AMIR BY MARCUS MAJOR WAS OFF THE HOOK. NO LIMITS! THIS BROTHER HAS A "REAL" GIFT FOR WRITING DIALOG, I COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Rating: Summary: Kept Me Wanting More.... Review: Let me start off saying I usually do not like short stories. I always feel like I am missing something. Not the case with this one. I enjoyed the travels to Mexico with Bobby Davis in Cafe Piel by EJD. He takes us on a love excursion with Bobby and Alejandria. Great job Eric. The next story by Marcus Major was of love found and love lost with Kenya and Amir. I am hoping that Marcus will elaborate on this one more in a future book. This was my favorite story. E. Lynn Harris give us a tale of James Thornton who is given a special gift for Valentines Day by one of his friends. Little did he know this gift would take him on a roller coaster ride of love. I love the way E. Lynn titles his books after songs and he never fails to disappoint with his writing . The final story was by Collin Channer and I am sorry to say that I just could not get into this one. I kept reading and re-reading the beginning and finally gave up. I still recommend this one to any and all who like these authors. Continued success and blessings. Peace!!
Rating: Summary: Dark, Gritty, Edgy, Real Review: I'm not sure how I feel about Got To Be Real. Dickey and Harris are the only two authors whose work I've read and immensely enjoyed in the past. The only adjectives that come to mind when I think of these stories are dark, gritty, edgy, but real. You can't help but feel compassion for the characters portrayed in each of these novellas; each story was a good fit for this particular anthology. I didn't put this book down feeling exactly good about it, but I did get another brief glimpse into the visceral nature of human being when the thin veneer of relational civility is peeled away to reveal the deeper, darker more complex psyches of both men and women.
Rating: Summary: An Anthology of Love Review: Four of our favorite AA male authors get together to give us a love stories. EJD slows down from his usual fast pace LA action to take us to Mexico. Bobby and Alexandra story of love, lust and deciet in Cafe PielMarcus Major give us the story of Love and Love Lost in Amir and Kenya. This story was my favorite. Love and humor.E Lynn Harris shows us that everyone needs love and experiences the same type of emotions in Money Can't By Love.I'm still waiting. Me too. I just could not get into this story. Maybe to lyrical, too descriptive, too difficult to read.
Rating: Summary: Four brothas representing black writers to the full! Review: These stories where excellent! Each and every one of these authors brought something fresh and good to the table, making "Got to be real" a true feast for books lovers everywhere. First with EJD's story it was both exciting and capitivating. I was also memorized by the writing skills of Colin Channer and Marcus Major, both whom I had not read before. I look forward to reading their solo projects now! E. Lynn Harris has always been my favorite author, and he definitely kept up with his reputation of excellence with his novella, "Money can't buy me love." I have to say though, when I got tot he end of his story, I was on the floor screaming, "No he didn't go there!" You guys have to read his story to know what I mean, lol All in all, if you are a reader, BUY THIS BOOK! ASAP!!!!!
Rating: Summary: ITS ALL GOOD! Review: I would like to start by saying this book was very exciting. E.Lynn Harris was at his usual best its a joy to read any of his material. I was introduced to Marcus Major, and I must say that I will be looking for any other material he has written. Great job to Eric Jerome Dickey and Colin Channer for the fun love stories
Rating: Summary: 4 Men, 4 Real Stories of Love Review: Cafe Piel-EJD, Too short but a very nice and touching story. Nothing can explain the twisted story, you have to read it for yourself. The story of Bobby & Alejandria will have you begging for more. Amir & Kenya-MM, If you had the opportunity to read "Good Peoples" you will find out how it all started for Amir & Kenya. Myles also makes a short appearance. From reading this you get the idea that MM knows these people very well. If you haven't read "Good Peoples" BUY IT. Money Can't Buy Love-ELH, Honest is all I can really say. This often painful and touching story will have you in tears. It is a bit graphic but my eyes never left the page. I'm Still Waiting-CC, Sweet, sexy and very descriptive. I wanted to digest every word, the writing makes your mind wonder to the places he has described. In general I LOVED this book, do yourself a favor and GET IT NOW.
