Rating: Summary: i LOVED this book.. Review: i dont see why everyone's reviews are on the down side because i thought it was great.. i read it in one sitting 2 hours..
the book is about Becca overworked and no social life and Edward who's whole life is social.. both of their friends die and they are awarded joint custody of emily...it continues on to become a great story..
Rating: Summary: Cute Story, hard to follow Review: I really liked the story, but I thought the author's writing style was hard to follow. The point of view changed so often, I frequently had to reread paragraphs to figure out who was thinking what. Flipping from one character to another in seperate chapters is interesting; doing it in the same paragraph is frustrating.
Rating: Summary: decent but nothing extrordinary Review: I'm a big chick lit reader, and after reading a couple of reviews of this book i decided to get it. I guess my expectations were so high that i was slightly disappointed when i began reading. its hard to have a light and funny story when the first few chapters dive into explaining the contrasting personalites of the two people, and then into the tragic accident. there was not much chemistry or interaction between Becca and Edward. the shining star of the story was little Emily with her bright personality. Even though the book was a decent read, i wouldnt recommend this book as a must read but as a if you are bored and have nothing else, why not read. some books i definitely recommend are "Can you keep a Secret" by Sophie Kinsella, "Boy Meets Girl" & "Boy Next Door" by Meg Cabot. make sure you bring extra books because you will fly through these books.
Rating: Summary: unreadable Review: I'm joining "amyincanton" in the minority. Given the large number of books being written in this genre, I would put this one way at the bottom of the list. Saying the characters are "unrealistic" just doesn't give the flavor - after all, none of these books are really realistic, and if we can identify with the characters, we don't care. But here is mean "so far off the map that they aren't even realistic for a chick lit romance" and the plot too preposterous for suspension of disbelief. I was irrevocably turned off after two pages of reading about Becca's great life -- come ON, even Warren Buffet doesn't live that life, and at 31 or so, a highly successful banker/investment adviser/FEMALE is still going to have many bosses above her and much less power. And that kind of unrealism to that degree, is a real turn-off for me. (Plus, it made her unlikeable in her invinceability). I also agree that the idea that some rich guy today would marry at his mama's bidding is ludicrous, and if there were such a person, he would be a candidate for serious psychiatric counseling.
Rating: Summary: Wish it was summer- great beach read Review: If you are in the mood for a fun, light book, this is the read for you. I picked a snowy, cold New York day to begin this book, and I admit it was pretty easy yo keep reading. The pace is as brisk as Becca's walk, the dialogue is cute, the characters are sterotypical, yet believable for this type of book. Sure the plot is fairly predictable, it includes the overtight Mother, the witchy social climber, the precocious child, but there isn't much to think about. Their is decent chemistry between the hero and heroine, so at least the inevitable outcome is fairly understandable. On the downside, the editing of this book was fairly sloppy, and I noticed some continuity problems- characters said things that directly contradicted things they said only paragraphs before, and she should visit New York again, because Rumplemyers closed awhile ago. I also have a problem with the amount of characters she introduced, gave big descriptions of, and then never to be seen again. I only like characters that are incidental to the plot, especially in a fun book. This book is not a great literary achievement, but it's fun and easy to read. If they had 1/2 stars I would actually give it a 3 1/2.
Rating: Summary: Wimpy--And not just the male protagonist! Review: Okay, I realize from the other reviews, that I am in the minority of people who really didn't like this book. To me, though, this book lacked passion, originality, a believable plot, and likeable characters (including the little four-year-old girl who needed a lot more discipline than she was getting). Without saying too much as to spoil the ending (but, honestly, was anyone REALLY surprised by the ending?), I just have to say that I just found the whole premise, including the love story, to be ludicrous! Who would list someone as guardian of their child without consulting that person first to make sure that your child would be left in capable, welcoming hands? Did Amy and Arthur really consider Becca and Edward as the parental types? What groom-to-be of such wealth would be such a doormat that he would just meekly go along with a forced wedding in which he didn't love the bride, and really was only expected to show up the day of the wedding? Also, with Edward's incredible wealth, I didn't buy for one moment that he and Becca would have had that much difficulty getting Emily into a preschool. And, I want to know what happens after the book ends (again not to give away the "surprise" ending) (...). This book was filled with unflattering stereotypes and occurrences that were neither plausible or interesting. For those other reviewers who applauded this book for being good "light reading," I think for my light reading, I'll stick to books by Sandra Brown or Linda Howard.

Rating: Summary: Amanda Brown Does It Again with "Family Trust" Review: Pros: Easy to read and follow, never gets "heavy" Cons: Somewhat predictable, rich people aren't you Recommended: Yes Bottom Line: Overall, the book was a good and quick read (~325 pages), and was enjoyable, mostly because Amanda Brown keeps it from getting too heavy and the story is fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Right away, you know what kind of story this is. The book starts out with a detailed description of Becca, a high-powered financial something-or-another, who doesn't have time to stop to eat, let alone date. So much so, that she has to have back up bagels around just in case she forgets to nourish herself. Then, it goes into a detailed description of Edward, who is obviously too rich to plan his own dates (he needs a "social secretary" whose sole job is to decide which functions that he'll attend and with whom), and doesn't seem to do anything besides attend benefits. Their lives seem to be perfect, but is it really? What's missing is the precocious little girl. They get their opportunity to become complete when Emily is bequeathed upon them when her parents make her an orphan. Although I can't recall if it was explained, it doesn't matter, it furthers the plot. This is where is becomes somewhat predictable, as they try to adjust to life with her, fall in love with each other and her and find that the lives they had been living were shallow and empty without a child. As a parent, I can almost understand that message. Not to say that the book was fun to read, almost a guilty pleasure like watching Jerry Springer. It makes you feel good imaging privaleged folk have to deal with things that us everyday folk deal with everyday. Since this is by the author of Legally Blonde, you can bet there's going to be a movie. I see Christina Applegate playing Becca and Hugh Grant as Edward. (You heard it here first!)
Rating: Summary: A FUN READ Review: THIS IS A DELIGHTFUL BOOK FILLED WITH WARMTH AND HUMOR. I PARTICULARLY ENJOYED THE SCHOOL ADMISSION PART AND BUNNY.
Rating: Summary: simply mediocre. Review: This is my third chic lit book after Bergdorf Blondes and Legally Blonde. I enjoyed reading the latter so I took a chance and bought Family Trust. Unfortunately, I wasn't really enjoy reading this one. The way Becca Reinhart's life being described on earlier chapter were simply vibrant, energetic and ongoing.. I enjoyed reading these part.. but when she had to drop everything in her life and followed what Emily has to say.. its just too good to be true.
