Summary: FL humor? at it's best
Review: In the awesome style of Hiaasen and Barry, Triggerfish Twist tells the almost amazing and unbelieveable story of everyday life in FL. I say almost unbelieveable because you'll meet these characters in any 7-11.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I agree that it is his best yet.
Review: The central characters are as good as ever, and I thought the secondary ones in this book were very well drawn. Loved the Florida history and local references.

I recommend the entire series to anyone who hasn't read it ... they are all hilarious and very hard to put down.

Summary: 4th book published, should be first read....
Review: I guess in one aspect I was lucky. I was so busy with Carl Hiaasen books, that I missed Tim's. But I am glad I found them, I bought all of his hardbacks in 1st editions. Which he is always gracious to sign. And started reading the series of novels, starting with the fourth.

Triggerfish Twist is really the first book in the series. It is a Prequell, and a great place to start. These books are Flroida. You have to live here to understand how right on the money these are, though funny. But isn't the truth usually funnier and stranger than fiction. This is a great blend. Not many authors have the ability to describe murders and have you laughing. And you will laugh as you read what this anti-hero does....

Buy it, you'll love it. A fast and great read. The editorial review above describes the book quite well.

Summary: Twisted Indeed!
Review: Humorous horror is my favorite genre. Triggerfish Twist is humorous...dementia. I liked it because it smacks of honesty, though the bulk of the scenarios have been pushed to ultimately humorous extremes. There are so many characters integral to the climax that the storyline can be dizzying, especially the way Dorsey zips around and through the brief span of time involved, telling just enough to pull it all together at just the right moment. If you're able to set it down, then you're either too timid for this kind of in-your-face storytelling, or it'll haunt you until you can get back to it again. It could be titled: How To Push A Normal Joe Overboard...except that the hero's name is Jim. Of particular interest to those all-too-familiar with Tampa. A delightful exaggeration. Zany, twisted, breakneck-speed fun!

Summary: Monty Python Moves to Florida
Review: The madness of the characters in Triggerfish Twist is delightfully fresh and inventive. Dorsey somehow manages to create coke-heads, burglars, kidnappers, perverts and killers that you care about. The plot keeps weaving like a blue-haired Cadillac driver on the interstate, and even when you see where things are headed, the dialogue and the details still surprise you and keep the insanity rockin'. This is my first Dorsey roller coaster, but I'm hooked and will read all of the others. Highly recommended for a good time!

Summary: Kept me focused while on vacation in VEGAS!
Review: Hilarious! This book was an impulse buy at the airport before my long flight, but I could not put it down! Not only did I laugh out loud in the plane from time to time, but I couldn't put it down for the entire time i was in Vegas!

I enjoyed the characters, and the twists, and now i'm going right out to get the next one!

Summary: 5 Stars isn't enough!
Review: Tim's best book yet! For the past four days that I have been reading Triggerfish Twist I have been laughing my head off! This book is pure genius. All the twists and turns. Plot changes and off-the-wall characters it's plain nuts with a fun atmosphere. I can't wait for Stingray Shuffle! Thanks Tim for all you do.

Summary: Back on form
Review: Florida Roadkill, Hammerhead Ranch -- both were winners. Then came Orange Crush and judging by all the five star ratings for that book I see I went aginst the grain when I panned it. I think mine was the first pan and Mr. Dorsey, probalby through threats and reminders that it was his twisted brain that thought up Mr. S. Storms (and he could do it in real life) cowed the Amazon editors into removing that offending review from the library. ... Actually did a pretty good job of capturing my essence. For the record my wife is a blonde, not a red head.

Also for the record, I loved Triggerfish Twist and recommend it to you as a great, funny read. For instance, the set-up for the death of the first McGraw -- it is a tribute to Tim's talent that he can make a horrible, murderous act so funny and satisfying --- kind of sick too but hey, isn't that why we're reading this!

I won't give you a blow-by-blow or philosophize on the inner motivation of Mr. Dorsey -- we might find out more than we want to know (Is Serge, Tim's alter ego? Is Coleman? And who did he model Pierre on -- Andy Fastow?). I'll just tell you, as others have so eloquently: sit back and enjoy the ride. ...P>Maybe we'll find out in the next one --- which I can't wait to read.

Summary: Trigger Fish Twist with a Twist
Review: Reminiscent of Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey is a wild ride. While his other novels are entertaining, this one proved to be my personal favorite. Having killed off all of his characters in his other novels, Mr. Dorsey decided to digress in this story to bring them back. Most enjoyable is the character Serge. What a novel idea, having a killer and a gangster for the hero of the story. Serge is also quite a philosopher and a little way past the center of the story, he delivers a two page spiel while delivering an address to a graduating college class which is poignant, excellent advice. You won't waste your time reading "Trigger Fish Twist." Steve Robertson

Summary: You know how sometimes books are funny/entertaining?
Review: This is NOT one of those times. This has to be the worst book I have read in five years.

It appears that Dorsey is just screaming for a movie deal. Most of what he writes might be appealing visually, but as a book it is clichéd, hokey, juvenile and painfully unfunny. Fast-paced back-and-forth banter is best served in a visual medium (Ever notice that Who's On First was never turned into a novel?). In a book it just comes off as embarrassing and strained.

Maybe I am overestimating the intelligence of the American reading public. Hey, if you think that a pair of homeless guys named (wait for it...) Ernie and Bert is HILARIOUS, then this book is for you. Similarly, if you find jokes about consultants, smoking pot, and used car dealers to be fresh and comical then you should purchase this book immediately. Me, I just felt insulted and down about forty IQ points for having spent two hours plowing through one head-slappingly inane passage after another.

I am a lifetime resident of the Sunshine State, and let me tell you...this book bears no resemblance to anything I have ever experienced. Whimsy is one thing...but people just don't talk or act the way Dorsey's characters do. It is all so forced and cartoony.
