Summary: shock insight at its best
Review: a true to life tale of one man's struggle down from an already twisted life when almost at the stable comfort level. the title just couldn't sum it up better. great story plus an unexpected culture shock hits at the end. just puts that mirror in front of us all and forces you to see your own actions for what they are. which is just the thing so many of us need to see...

Summary: Starts ok, just goes downhill...
Review: Like the character in the novel, the novel itself starts out ok, and is sort of interesting. There is a girlfriend here, a love interest there, apathy towards work... looks to be a good New York pop-culture read.

But the book just goes deeper and deeper into the unbelievable, uninteresting story of this guy whom you don't really care too much about.

It's the worst type of book because it's not bad enough to throw away... just interesting enough where you think it'll turn around.

Actually, the story is not so bad. It's kind of cool to see him sink lower and lower, and when you think he can't sink any lower, he does. What's really bad is the writing. It just lacks the quality of writing that you see in the better modern writers of our time (Nick Hornby is as pop culture as you can get, but his writing doesn't drive you mad).

Summary: I'm dumb ...
Review: am I the only one who didn't realize I didn't know his name till like the last part of the book when it says something about someone screaming his name? I hadn't even noticed till then. I really am dumb!

uh this was a crazy book. I couldn't put it down 'cause I couldn't think of anything worse that could happen to the guy. good read.

Summary: An interesting book!
Review: I received this book as a gift and it peaked my interest (and not just because of the catchy title). I had heard about it somewhere and was looking forward to reading it. I read the first page and I couldn't stop. As I read on I found that in a strange way I could identify with the main character. Although, I'm a bit past my early twenties I can remember not worring about much until the ceiling fells in! Kind of a reality landslide. The book was funny, touching, and fustrating. An irrisitable combination!

Summary: I give this book 7 stars!
Review: All the brat pack books of the 80s and early 90s don't hold a candle to this one. The main characters slow slide into despair could've easily happened to anyone. The reader becomes the main character - a guy just searching for a little bit of money, a little bit of love, and a way to get by in life. Bit by bit everything he has to hold onto slips away until he has to fend completely for himself. A very personal book that left me thoroughly depressed and desperate for more.

Summary: Lukewarm
Review: As critically acclaimed and true to life as this was, I found it difficult to completely submerge myself in it. It's strange, because this is the type of book I'm likely to get drawn and eventually addicted to... the story of a loner who's just trying to get by, sprinkled with equal parts of grit and black humor. While reading this book, though, I found myself wondering if the author was just trying to elicit sympathy from the reader by cleverly setting up one tragedy after another. Some of the conflicts he encounters are truly tragic, others are the result of, how do I say this nicely? Stupidity. You can't help but feel bad for him though, and the writing itself is fresh and original, and the dialogue is wonderful. What really threw me off was the ending. I'm not going to give it away, I'm just going to say that it belonged in a really bad movie and didn't seem to do justice to the decent parts of the book. The ending is crucial in making sense of a character's development, and the ending of this book didn't allow for that. This book wasn't all bad, it just was just a tad bit overrated... I liked it better when it was called "The Basketball Diaries".

Summary: Wow!
Review: it's true that i did get the book because of the title, but what was in the book made it all worth while... Truly amazing and funny, it's kind of reminds me of my own screwed up life... Then again he has it worst... It's amazing how Arthur Nersesian was able to keep our anonymous hero so entertaining even though the basic facts about him are gone... I really recommend this book to anyone who feel their life is screwed up...

Summary: A very enjoyable experience, could've been better though
Review: Like most people, the title of the book grabbed my attention. I remember seeing a commercial for this book on MTV about 2 years ago, and just never looked into it. I was told about a similar book "The Perks of being a Wallflower", which I bought on amazon and saw that this was a recommendation, so I picked it up. I enjoyed it, but unlike the wallflower book, I didnt love it. And since they kind of lumped together, I compared the 2. There is a very witty and interesting story here, and while kind of off the wall, seems pretty grounded in reality. This guy's life spirals out of control so fast that not only doesn't he see it, but neither does the reader. A fun read.

Summary: Fresh
Review: A plucky narrative, rich in detail, emotionally realistic (if you're a borderline personality) satisfying. Can be very funny at times.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: pointless drivel
Review: Mildly amusing at times, but offers little else than a vulgar, attention grabbing title. Comparisons written by others here between the narrator and Holden Caulfield are funnier than the book itself.
