Summary: Gripping and Thought Provoking
Review: Schechter is magnificent!! The research and detail provided on this "psychiatric phenomenon" -- Albert Fish -- is outstanding. The book is exceptionally well written with fascinating detail of the pervert's capture and ultimate diagnosis. Having finished it weeks ago, the book is still keeping me awake trying to imagine that such a creature lived among, and took advantage of, families in NYC in the 1920s. Great read for any true crime fan.

Mr. Schechter: Please keep them coming!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wow!
Review: Schechter is one of the best true crime writers around. He puts Fish, that nut, in a historical context. We get to know a lot about the times (late 20's, early 30's) as well as this quite rightly named deranged man.

Bloch was right, pple are into Ed Gien because they haven't heard about A. Fish!

Summary: Albert Fish was a disgusting man!
Review: Sick SOB...this book lets you see how much of a sick person Albert Fish was. I just hope people who read this book take more precautions on what their children do, because you never know who may be lerking around them: friends, neighboors, maybe even family.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Be prepared to be "grossed out"!
Review: Superbly written and researched true crime book about the truely DERANGED Albert Fish. It's amazing that Schecter could provide so many details about this case. He elevates himself to the elite class of true crime authors who's able to keep the reader at the edge of their seats. The only part of this case that was unanswered was regarding the eerie "murder lodge": Wisteria Cottage. Who owned it? Why did Fish have such access to it? When is Schecter's next book coming out?

Summary: A fascinating American de Sade
Review: The tale of Albert Fish is, to put it mildly, sensational. It reminds me of the Marquis de Sade in the sense that Fish seemed to want to taste every possible (and then some) appetite before going to his grave. He was into all sorts of odd sexual perversions, including the habit of sticking pins into his genitals until dozens had accumulated. Fish not only committed cannibalism on his young victims he had the nerve to write to the victim's parents to tell them about how "sweet" tasting the victim was. He was, fortunately, finally captured and sentenced to death. Legend has it that Fish had to be restrained from rushing to the electic chair when they went to fetch for his execution, so eager was he to try this one last thrill. I've really only skimmed the surface of Fish's exploits, which would almost be heroic if not so horribly damaging to so many other people. The letters he wrote have to be read to be believed, even Rene Crevel would have been hard put to invent something this outrageous. This is decently written and researched, though one could always ask for more about this truly original American.

Summary: Riveting, harrowing and un-putdownable
Review: This book is definitely not for the squeamish! It tells, in harrowing detail, the story of Albert Fish, America's most perverted killer. Mr Schechter has obviously done his research in the finest of detail, and the result is a book that will keep you open-mouthed with amazement.
One criticism however: as Mr Schechter is a true crime writer, I would have thought he would understand what is meant by the term "corpus delicti". He kept using it to refer to the actual corpse, (the body of the victim), when anyone with even a basic knowledge of true crime and legal terms knows that the term "corpus delicti" refers to the body of evidence which constitutes the crime!

A small irritation which nevertheless does not detract from a very interesting book. Recommended.

Summary: I can't believe the other reviews!!!!
Review: This book is one of the worst written books I have EVER read. It is slow and boring. It took everything I had to force myself to finish the book, thinking I would finally find a part interesting. Well, I was wrong! Should have put it down in the first few pages. It NEVER got any better.

Summary: Deranged:The Shocking True Story Of America's Most Fiendish
Review: This book was entertaining, but be prepared for a history lesson on specfic days of trial. There are two chapters of historical facts that have nothing to do with Albert Fish other than the date. But it was a good book.
