Review: I have to admit that I am an avid reader, but not so avid that I read books in one sitting. NOT TRUE with The Mammy. I just simply couldn't put it down. After the first few chapters, I took the phone off the hook, got a glass of iced tea, and didn't move from my couch until I turned the last page. What did I do afterwards? Got up and went to the bookstore and bought The Chisellers. I read it in one sitting as well. After that, I got on the computer, logged onto Amazon UK and ordered The Granny (since it hasn't been released here yet.) I got it today, and finished it today as well.Three of the best books I have ever read with one of the most memorable central characters ever. Viva Agnes Browne! And Bravo to Brendan O'Carroll for his amazing writing. On a final note, thank you to Anjelica Huston. It was because of her movie, Agnes Browne, that I bought the book in the first place. So essentially, she is to thank for opening my eyes to three of the most amazing books I have ever come across! THANK YOU!

Summary: wonderful debut
Review: i almost put this book down after the first few pages because the author appeared to be trying far too hard for a laugh... i just didn't work for me. but the pages that followed were a wonderful walk thru the world of a struggling north dublin family of the 60s. a loving look at the simple life of the widowed matriarch and the assorted personalities of her children, neighbors & strangers in 1960s dublin. i am so glad i didn't give up on brendan o'carroll & his wonderful debut!

Review: Absolutely fabulous work! I picked this book up at the airport on one of my business trip and could not put it down. If you want learn to appriciate lives outside the USA fishbowl, you ought to read this book. If you don't want to poison your mind with harsh reality then don't bother.

Review: This is on my list of my favorite books of all times. I picked it up on a Saturday morning and didn't put it down until I finished reading it. There were a times that I laughed so hard tears were coming down my face. Marvelous!

Review: After listening to an interview with Brendan O'Carroll on NPR, I knew I had to buy this book for my mammy, who was raised in Dublin. She was delighted. But true to form, being me mammy, she had to pass some judgement, stating that it was a bit vulgor in parts. I felt it was brilliant. The series of escapades truely captured the feelings of pride, love, and humour in an Irish family. The ending is priceless, but the reader is left hungry for more. Prepare to laugh and cry yourself to tears.
