Rating: Summary: Time is the best recommendation Review: I read this book nearly 20 years ago whilst working down in Rio de Janeiro. Its interesting concept has remained with me all that time. The book did not change my life, as the cover claims, however since I still recall it as being one of the best books I have ever read - 20 years after - speaks volumes (no pun intended)
Rating: Summary: Roll those dice! Best book I have read - yet! Review: I borrowed this book, I would never have bought it. For one thing, I didn't like the cover. Now most of the books I read are chosen using dice theory. I no longer have the restriction of "judging a book by it's cover". Go on buy the book. It's a great read and you'll have an invaluable skill.
Rating: Summary: One of the 10 best books I have ever read! Review: I must have read this book 10 times or more; it's a classic - and definitely one of the funniest send ups of 60s/70/s life ever written - I recommend it to EVERYONE over the age of 16! - who can ever forget 'doctor Krum and his psychotic chickens?'
Rating: Summary: A timeless thought provoking classic..... Review: This book was written in the year in which I was born, yet the questions it poses and the impact the answers have hold a real impact on today's 20-something generation, a generation disillusioned with work / marriage / mortgages and commercialism. Empowering yourself with the ability to run your life in a random (or not so random - you decide) fashion is exciting, exhilarating and downright dangerous, a delicious alternative to corporate life. Buy it now - that's one thing you don't want to leave to chance.
Rating: Summary: A rare book that really should be read by everyone Review: This book had been very highly recommended to me by friends. Nevertheless when I spotted it in a shop, I nearly didn't buy it because it had the words "this book will change your life" on the cover. Still, it was really VERY highly recommended by people whose literary judgement I could usually trust, so I swallowed my misgivings and bought it. It changed my life. Not in any major respects, but it left me with a feeling of freedom of choice and of action I hadn't experienced before. Besides which it is supremely darkly funny and sometimes outrageously so. It explores concepts of individuality and liberty and f*** this, just READ THE BOOK. Give not buying it 1 chance in 216 and keep rolling the dice till you get a yes. I have currently not seen my copy in about three years; it is permanently out on loan and generally comes back through about three or four intervening pairs of hands.
Rating: Summary: The best Review: This is definitely the best book I have ever read. Since reading this I have read all of his others. I recomend Long Voyage Home and Adventures of Wim. These two books are both very diferent from each other but very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: If you read only one book in your lifetime..... Review: Have you read Catch 22? Have you read Brave New World? Have you read Au Rebours? Have you read The Diceman? It is that good!
Rating: Summary: Weird, but an option ... Review: This is so funny, how to let chanche play a role/roll in your life. I still wonder what happened after his last snake eyes! Im am still looking for a copy to give it to my psychiatrist. In his hallway there was a picture of two dice ...
Rating: Summary: Excellent ... a must read. Review: comic and tragedy in a wonderful mix. Its a real delight to read this book, as i have done a few times so far. a great plot. check it out, if you fancy twisted plots and original ideas.
Rating: Summary: You will never look at a dice the same way again Review: A first sight, it seems to be good idea : a dice rules your life. What makes this novel a real achievement is that the idea is pushed to the far and dark side of human behavior. "The Dice Man" is funny and frightening at the same time. Look out for the sequel, "The return of the dice man".
