Summary: hmmm interesting...
Review: I am not really sure what exactly this novel is getting at. It is supposedly semi-autobiographical in nature, although Rhinehart frequently justifies his character's 'six-sided' philosphy with such clarity and conviction, that we can only assume that this book is the work of a madman.

Rhinehart's character intriguingly explores many different avenues of development, opened by the die determining his periodic identity. This is an interesting concept, and at times makes for an exciting read, but his concept of becoming a completely 'random' man soon becomes tiresome, and does in no-way justify 650 pages.

Summary: Barely readable (0 stars)
Review: Not only is the subject matter of this "novel" silly, but its literary merit is not even worthy of one star. As if the plot wasn't bad enough, Rhinehart's proper use of grammar is, well lacking. Save your money.

Summary: Favorite present
Review: It is the only present I gave to anyone (even my younger brother who couldn't read at that time) since I read it and if I already gave it to them, I give it again, for them to give as a present and "spread the news" and I've been thanked with joy all the time.

Summary: take a chance
Review: After I read the book myself I made the foreign student society in my dormatory swallow it and sold many copies of it. We had some unbelievable fun, until the darkside took over and slowly we returned back to a more normal, free society. Five years later the people concerned still call each other according the name adopted during this period. things that never happened before, happened daily. Creating a society like that was the biggest fun and my best memory in life.

Summary: Live the dice life and be happier
Review: The Dice Man is an amazing book, and in a way a parable, that makes some profound points about the nature and cause of boredom in life, and then offers a solution: THE DICE. Luke, inspired by reading about Zen philosophy, tells us that "self-image" and "self-consciousness" are what holds us back from richer more interesting and experiential lives, so he invents what at first seems like a child's game as a tool to break his self-image... he starts with some innocent games, but then plays the dice game religiously and starts basing all his decisions on the dice game. This an excellent book that can have a profound affect on how you view life and live it.

Summary: Thrilled by the positive reaction to this cult novel
Review: We are thrilled by so many readers' reactions to THE DICE MAN by Luke Rhinehart. We weren't quite sure when we reissued this unusual novel that people would remember it or rediscover it. Both happened and we already back to press. It looks as though this book makes a statement for our time as much or more that it did when it was the cult success it was in England and the U.S. in the 70's. I wonder if many readers know that DICE MAN on its first publication was an even bigger success in England than it was in the U.S. So, all this positive American reaction makes us feel kinda good, especially as the author is an American.

Summary: I've found it
Review: I read this book about seven years ago and it has stayed with me ever since. Its notion of chaos has been incorporated into my "world-view." I had forgotten the title but my search on Amazon.UK under dice, located it. I had originally bought the book in UK so went to that site first. I want to buy this book and share it.
