Summary: Reading about golf while playing in a tournament in Monterey
Review: A few weeks ago I was playing in a golf tournament on the Monterey Peninsula. The matches were held in the morning, and I had the afternoons to kick back. One afternoon I went to a bookstore to hang out for a while, and found this book. I had read a review in a golf magazine about the book, and needless to say I was interested in reading it.

After reading it for a while the first day, I was absolutely captivated. I couldn't put it down! It didn't help that I was playing in a golf tournament, and that my mind was on golf.

So I went back the next afternoon and finished the book. It took me 5 hours to read it. Mr. Veron had me totally enthralled in the characters of Hunter and Stedman. You feel like you have known them all of your life. Especially Hunter. What a great guy! He's the kind of guy you want in your office so that you can talk golf all the time.

But it was the ending of the book that gave me the biggest chills. You have to read this book.

Oh, after losing my match the first day, I then won 3 straight. I'd like to think that the ghost of Stedman was following me around Poppy Hills that week. I still smile thinking about it.

Summary: Expanded Short Story
Review: A nice, heart-warming book but no more than an
expanded short story. It is very short and the
writing is very simple. It never rises above
the contrived setting but is so positive and upbeat
you can't help but like it. It isn't literature
by any stretch and it shouldn't cost what it
does. Don't expect too much and you will be
rewarded.

Summary: The smaller the ball the greater the writing
Review: For any fan of golf (and golf history) this book is a must read. Veron captures the glory of the game in a captivating manner. The history of Beau Steadman is a history of the game post- Bobby Jones. The manner in which Veron brings in the history of the game and its greatest legends (Sarazen, Hagen, Hogan, Palmer, etc.) was smoothly blended in with the underlying story. My precocious teenage son who asks me much about sports history found the book fascinating and now knows that golf was played prior to the emergence of Eldrick Woods.

Summary: Excellent Story
Review: I am a golfer and student of golf history. I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Veron's story about the exploits of Beau Stedman. His ties to the greats of golf not only made for great reading but had me convinced that these ties were real. I constantly had to remind myself that this was fiction. This, in itself, is a testament to the story told. I highly recommend this to anyone just looking for an excellent story to read. Golf fan or not....Looking forward to the movie...
