Rating: Summary: MR. HOLMES PUTS IT DOWN! Review: I had been waiting for this book since the summer and after a long request log for the book at the library, it was finally my time to take on B-More Careful.Even with ALL the grammatical errors, this book still gets a 5, due to the intensity and peerless story set-up. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from the devilish characters to the game action to the lesson learned about the game of hustling. Although this is a work of fiction, nonetheless, it is someone(s) story in some way, shape, or form. I live in a war zone and know people in the game, so it was a little too real, because people actually do get down like the characters in B-More Careful on a daily. Sister Souljah (The Coldest Winter Ever), Teri Woods (True To The Game), and Shannon Holmes are our modern day Iceberg Slim and Donald Goins'. They are keeping it real with what's happening in the inner cities. If you know or don't know the game, enlighten yourself, because what's on the pages of these books are real and only brought to you (the reader) in fiction form.
Rating: Summary: VERY INTERESTING READ Review: THIS IS A FAST READ, HAS ALL IT TAKES TO KEEP YOU TURNING THE PAGES. ONCE YOU START YOU WON'T WANNA PUT IT DOWN.
Rating: Summary: R.A.W yet a delightful read Review: Be Mo Careful was a pretty good book. It started off kind of slow, but the momentum picked up. This was the first book I've read about the underground drug world, and I must say it was quite enlightening. There was one thing in particular about the story that I felt was wrong. The description of the story leads you to believe that the story was about the life of Netta, yet more backstory was given to "Black's" character.
Rating: Summary: Dont' Be Tricked Read B-More Careful Review: I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK BECAUSE I COULDN'T RELATE TO THE LIFE STYLE OF THE STREETS OF BALTIMORE OR THE WAY NETTA AND MIMI'S FAMILY LIFE AND ENVIROMENT WAS. I THOUGHT YOU CAN ONLY LIKE A BOOK IF YOU CAN RELATE TO IT...BUT I WAS WRONG. I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK AND ONCE I GOT PAST THE FIRST FEW SLOW CHAPTERS, I WAS HOOKED AND I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. ALSO I COULD RELATE TO THE BOOK IN MY OWN WAYS. THE WAY THAT NETTA WAS WITH LOVE AND THE WAY THEIR FRIENDSHIP (HER AND MIMI'S) WAS I COULD RELATE TO IN A LOT OF WAYS. THE CHARACTER BLACK REPRESENTS REAL DRUG DEALERS AND WHY THEY DEAL DRUGS. THE BOOK SPLIT UP THE LIVES OF THE CHARACTERS IN SEPARATE SECTIONS AND SHOWED THE SIDES OF "THE PUSSY POUND", THE GUYS THEY LEFT AN IMPRESSION ON, AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT GAVE A VIVID DESCRIPTION OF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THEY WERE ABOUT, EVEN DOWN TO THE SCARS ON THEIR FACE. IT REMINDS ME OF "THE COLDEST WINTER EVER", BUT IT IS MUCH MORE INTERESTING. IT WAS ENTERTAINING AND ALSO TEACHES PEOPLE STUFF. I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK AND I THINK YOU GUYS WILL TOO, SO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY READ IT. I WOULD RATE IT A 5.
Rating: Summary: B-more Real Review: Money can't never bring back the love you lost, and that's for real. 'Reality Check'. I enjoyed B-More Careful by Shannon Holmes. It gave me memories of True to the Game by Teri Woods. There are so many ways to explain how this world can be cruel to many lives. Wow! Ms. Holmes really did her thing in B-more. There was so much energy in the details and actually picturing the scene in my head, had an impact on me. The book shared many thoughts and feelings that really exist today in society. (DRUGS, PROSITUITION, MONEY, POWER, RESPECT.) Netta did her thing in B-More. She was famous in all areas. Her best friend Mimi looked for love in all the wrong places. Black thought he was the man until he noticed he wasn't the wise guy. There were all these different points of view from these main characters. They all lost their lives to the streets of B-more. I would recommend this book to anyone, who enjoys novels like True to the Game by Teri Woods and NO Disrespect by Sister Souljah. They all represent the life of the streets.
Rating: Summary: couldn't put it down Review: this was truly a good book. I read it in a few hours, thats how goof it was. Rating: Summary: Carol Rogers * Brenda Piper C&B Books Distribution Review: This was such a good book we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Holmes at the Circle of Sister and we have the photo to show, sorry ladies he was a doll. This book was sooooo good it took me back in the days, the characters were girls and guys I grew up with. I attended so many funerals because of the drug game and the streets took some of the sweetest guys away from us. Shannon and Terri are truly the new Donald Goines and Iceberg Slims, of the world, we can't leave out Sistah Soldier.coldest Winter Ever. Black the character in this book was a product of our present day environment, I pray that the young people who read this will take heed and see glamour the wrong way results in tragic realities. We just lost a great entertainer because the streets won't let go. These two authors are our new hero's and should be applauded. Drugs, Sex are somewhat glamorized, yet the effect that these great authors are trying to show is that the cost of the glamour, money and lifestyles all end in fatal death. Money can never bring back the love you lost. Shannon and Terri thank you for taking me back down memory lane. True To The Game & Be-More Careful - Coldest Winter Ever should received awards for Books of the Year. Well they are on our website ask anyone. We support African American Authors from our hearts.
