Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down!!! Review: Be More Careful defintely gets five stars off the top-no doubt! This story has so many twists and turns that you have to read some parts twice to keep up! This is a well written story about drugs, the hood and the GAME! The P*ssy Pound clique was a bunch of females who used their looks and what was between their legs to get what they wanted. The girls got everything from money, jewerly, expensive clothes and cars. Their cash flow increased while their character decreased. They did whatever it took to get that money no matter who they hurt. BMC had me shedding tears, drying them and shedding some more. As soon as I got over someone's death in the book then BAM someone else got knocked! Netta would have to be my favorite character even though she did some devious things! I guess my heart went out to her because from the get-go she never really had nothing. She lived in the projects, her mother was a dope fiend and she didn't know who her father was. On the other hand her best friend Mimi grew with her father and was spoiled rotten. Black was a character I disliked from the beginning, but towards the end of the book I HATED him! Shannon Holmes and Terri Woods you both did a great job with this story. I loved it and will pass it on to my friends. Be More Careful is defintely a book that you don't wanna miss!
Rating: Summary: A Good Read, That Could Have Been Better. Review: Let me warn you, I'm very biased when it comes to "Coming-Of-Age-in-the-Hood" books. To me no author and his/her book can come close to Sistah Souljah and "The Coldest Winter Ever". Sister Souljah's characters and situations seemed more realistic. Shannon Holmes, and Terri Woods characters and situations are too stereotypical and unbelievable. When I finished reading Holmes', and Woods' books, I felt like I had just watched one of those wanna be "Boyz In The Hood" or "New Jack City" B-movies on BET. I could see Tupac, if he was still alive playing, the character "Black". "B-More Careful" is the story of Netta. Netta had it hard growing up. Her father abandon her and her mother when Netta was young. Then Netta's mother became addicted to drugs. Without any type of parental authority in her life Netta grows up hard and fast with no morals. She than becomes part of a "gold digging" clique of girls who target Baltimore's biggest drug dealers. "B-More Careful" really starts to get interesting when Netta starts dealing with the repercussions of her lifestyle choice. Holmes gives the backstory on each of the main characters, but I just didn't feel for them. The characters were very one dimensional. And this is something I find in most of these kind of stories, the main character straightens up and goes to college, like college is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I know for a fact that college campus life can be just as sensational and problematic as street life. For those who haven't read this book don't read it until you've read the following first: The Coldest Winter Ever and Flyy Girl. Flyy Girl is a little long but Omar Tyree does a good job with character development.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS HOOF THE F*CKIN CHAIN Review: man this book is one of my best books i have ever read in my damn life,it so real and tight, right now i'm speechless about, who ever doesn't have it,go and get 4 real man.
Rating: Summary: a must read! Review: first i am going to say this the authour is a man. i am saying this only because in the reviews i read said ms.holmes and i was on the website of terri woods and shannon holmes and he is the author. second i want to say for those who write reviews please do not tell the book. i read one person's review and they were telling the beginning of the story i mean telling the book on what happened. which is not cool. just tell people certain details to a certain degree. well anyway this book is wonderful! it has a lot of action drama and it is definelty a page turner i guarantee that. do not judge a book by its cover it looks like its boring but it is the bomb! i give it five stars because the author didnt hold anything back. and it does have a moral to the story. dont mess with the game, cuz its not a game you may be on top but you will hit the bottom for sure.
Rating: Summary: THE AUTHORS PUT THEIR THANG DOWN Review: This is one DAM good story. So many turns makes it unpredictable and so juiceeee!! I knew some of the people were trouble but I swear I never saw this coming. The ending is bananas, DAM I thought Tone was the bomb even though she threw in a little something about his character to keep us from feeling sorry for him in the end. netta was buckwild!!!!! thats a bad azz chic!! what he did to her in the hotel was so grimy i had to actually describe it to someone who was not even interested in the book, they were interested after that!! Black and Netta were both cold but only the strongest survive. After reading this all I can say is HOT DAM!!!!

Rating: Summary: Please, not another "tale from the 'hood..." Review: I read Holmes' book and found it very hard to follow. With a BA in English, I have had to read many a novel. While I applaud Holmes' subject matter, he needs to develop his skill as a novelist. Many African-Americans (I am one) seem willing to accept low-grade artistic work just because we are the featured characters. This must stop. Unless Holmes is willing to work at it, he will never be another Ellison, Hughes, or Morrison. Yes, there is enough space for every type of author, but, help me out folks...there has to be more going on in a cautionary tale than a lot of gratuitous violence. We all deserve better.
Rating: Summary: interesting read Review: This book had me going. I was very interested in this book to know what would happen next. Some parts of the book I actually jumped knowing what was happening next. This is a must read.
