Rating: Summary: I love this woman! Review: Mlle. Nin is always ahead of the game in exploratory erotica!
Rating: Summary: A Celebration of Beauty and Sensuality Review: Delta of Venus joyously explores the art of human sexuality. Anais Nin's writing style is at once lyrical and straightforward. While she leaves no doubt in the reader's mind just what is going on, her countless love scenes are imbued with so much warmth and dignity that one could scarcely find them offensive. But most importantly, Anais understood that sex is nothing without emotion, and it's the emotions of her myriad characters that cause the reader to turn happily florid with every page. She understood that while sex is not to be taken lightly, it's certainly not something to be restrained, either. Lastly, of all the locales depicted in this collection of stories, she lends a special affection to Paris. I suspect that of all of Anais' lovers, the City of Light was the dearest to her heart, to wit: "At five I always felt shivers of sensuality, shared with the sensual Paris. As soon as the light faded, it seemed to me that every woman I saw was running to meet her lover, that every man was running to meet his mistress." and "But we were enjoying an orgasm, as couples do in doorways and under bridges at night all over Paris."
Rating: Summary: I HATE THIS BOOK! Review: I tore this book to shreds after I read it. Though the book is charming at times and intelligent once or twice, it is built on the premise that only the unfamiliar is erotic. Nin has written the same basic story over and over here: woman encounters stranger, has sex with stranger, experiences epiphany. I wanted nothing more than to stop reading, or to discover something truly erotic within the stories -- trust me. It isn't there. DON'T FALL FOR THE HYPE!
Rating: Summary: Luscious Anaïs strikes again Review: "He did not know that when the erotic and the tender aremixed in a woman, they form a powerful bond, almost a fixation,"and contrary to Pierre, one of her characters, Anaïs Nin can write a full doctoral dissertation on the matter. Teeming superlative eroticism and sensuality, Delta of Venus is the pre-eminent anthology of luxury from a feminine panorama, wherein each and every one of the rich though not-necessarily-explicit details are contemplated to the extreme. Prolific with lascivious, quixotic imagination, the fanciful and mystical substance of Nin's writings prove unfailing to delight the most passionless of readers.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully sensual Review: I loved this book. It was written in a time when sensual was sexual and it definitely shows through. I prefer Anais Nin's writtings over a lot of more modern authors becauses she focuses on the whole issue. She doesn't just concentrate on sex, she writes about feelings, longings, relationships, fidelity and infidelity making the stories jump out at you and become so much more than just an erotic tale.
Rating: Summary: An old friend Review: I grew up with this book when I found it among some old books I inherited. It has informed my understanding of sexuality and has kept me sane. I have re-read it several times as I've grown older and each time I understand a bit more about myself. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: if you are aroused by sex between a father &10-year-olds... Review: I thought "Delta of Venus" was a decent book, but as far as being erotic, it hardly sparked my interest. I would only recommmend this book for one that likes their reading material intense, or is just plain sick.
Rating: Summary: opened my eyes to a whole new world Review: This is the first of Nin's works I have read. I had no idea erotica could be so exciting! I had always been turned off by it because it seems very male-centered and raunchy. Nin manages to be sensual without being crude. Her feminine style makes the text sexier. I'm definately going to read her other works. A must read for any woman.
Rating: Summary: Venus Lacking Depth Review: I was sorely disappointed after looking so forward to this book. The stories were lacking in depth and imagination. The only truly "erotic" stories were few and far in between; relying heavily on depictions of pedophilia and incest. A truer depiction of adult sex and lust and its motivations would have been much more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Anais Review: This book was intense, graphic, sensual, moving, deliriously engaging. It was the second book I'd read by Nin (Little Birds was the first) and I especially enjoyed the second half. Her stories offer a three-dimensional perspective on sex, love, lust--I loved it!
