Rating: Summary: The Bible for an Erotic Spirit Review: This novel was the first book of erotica I had ever read and it got me started on a quest to discover and collect erotica. Many years and books later and it is still my favourite erotic novel, which I cherish. It's stories celebrate the true beauty that is passion, lust and desire. She writes the Art of love making in all it's intensity and creativeness. These short stories transports you to a truly secret sensual place, embracing the times that was modern paris in those days. Read this! Read it! Buy It! Love it!
Rating: Summary: Gentle and tender...life does imitate art. Review: I have never till this day come across an erotic novel such as Delta Of Venus. It captures the true feminine sprit of the female sexuality. It generates the warmth and tenderness of the writer's lyrical aproach to sexuality and the erotic.Best book by Anais Nin in my collection.
Rating: Summary: Yummy Review: I loved reading this! I felt like I was reading something I shouldn't be. I also hesitated taking it in public to read for fear people would think I'm a pervert, but you know what? I think the average Joe has no idea who Anais Nin is. And, if someone DID know, they would probably want to sit and discuss the book with me. I did have a good time and realized that we all are basically the same. Same wants, desires, needs and hopes.
Rating: Summary: A True Experience of Erotic Pleasure Review: Despite the fact that Anais Nin has departed from the world her prose remains to testify to the fact that not only can she spin a tale of infinite quality and cohesiveness, she knows how to write geniune erotica that appeals to a wide range of palettes. Her words are eloquent and yet not wordy. The short stories are developed so that they follow the previous offering in such a way that you believe yourself to be a third party and the only person capable of appreciating where you think she is going with the book. Just when you think you might know the ending, Nin adds another delicious twist and you are once again caught off guard. Nin should be the standard for modern erotica. There is nothing prissy or insulting in her writing. It is simply what erotica was always meant to be whatever your sexual persona may be. Enjoy...
Rating: Summary: Sensuality Poetic and Erotic Review: When I first read "Delta of Venus", I was but a 20-something, as yet uneducated in the ways of love and the world. But I wasn't too young to feel the effect of Nin's dreamy prose, the heightened tease of her language, the titillation of the poetic images of lovers of every variety and combination, all experiencing the joys of the flesh. I never knew descriptions of heretofore "clinical" bodyparts could seem so ... beautiful. Now that I'm older, and can more fully appreciate the various twists and turns of sexuality and desire, Nin's stories are even more arousing, if for no other reason than the fact that I myself am more experienced in these matters. All combinations of love - man/woman, woman/woman, three women together, and more - are exposed here and brought to life with a passionate detachment, if such a thing is possible. There is no guilt within these pages; a reader must be willing to bathe, suspended, in the heated waters of love, taking what comes and accepting it on its own terms without judgment. Yes, it's graphic. I disagree with the idea that "pornography" cannot be an art. I prefer to think of good erotic literature as just that: an art form often attempted but rarely achieved in the purest sense of the word. "Penthouse Forum" is porn - "Delta of Venus" (as well as "Little Birds" and "Spy In The House of Love") is the best example of literary erotica, the combinations of love and the mystery of orgasm and sensuality.
Rating: Summary: Perverse and sensual erotica Review: Put simply, "Delta of Venus" is an absolute pleasure to read. Each short story here is like a seperate erotic entity; and the book reads like one delicious and sensual dream after another. While her writing style is conspicuously feminine, Anais Nin doesn't shy away from more hardcore territory, as she explores the taboos of sex: incest, bisexuality, paedophilia (The Boarding School) and even genital mutilation. Anais' hedonistic world is infinitely seductive and extremely well written. This is no "Mills and Boon" - This is a literary pleasure I'd recommomend to anyone seeking an erotic and imaginative treat.
Rating: Summary: Erotic but literary -- and certainly fun! Review: Overall, "Delta of Venus" is a pleasant read. I read the 15 stories over a period of two weeks. I was often delighted by the tales. Nin was, in many ways, a woman ahead of her time. She took a field of writing that had previously been solely the province of men and made it her own. She was very comfortable in exploring her own sexuality as well as sexuality in general. Her writing is very sensual and alluring. People who like erotic literature will revel in this collection. I have also read Miller's "Under the Roofs of Paris", which is a collection of his erotica written for the same collector. I find Nin to be a much better writer of pure erotica. Miller had a raunchy, almost macho sense of humor at times. He also had a habit of not sticking to the subject at hand. Nin seemed a lot more capable of capturing the emotions of the moment. She also possessed a sensitivity and delicacy that Miller lacked. Ultimately, this is a fine dirty read, but it serves limited purpose. Both Nin and Miller came to feel that writing solely about sex could be limiting and boring. Sex is really a part of life. It often can lose its appeal if it becomes the sole focus of one's life. These stories can be arousing and appealing but they would be best read over time. I found that reading one or two stories in a day was enjoyable. Trying to read this collection in one sitting might be overkill. If you enjoy erotic literature, this is a book that you will greatly enjoy. I would advise persons with strict religious or moral views toward sex to avoid this title. It can be very graphic, at times, in spite Nin's predilection for verse. But please pick up a copy. It's certainly fun. Other Amazon Quick Picks I recommend are: Henry and June by Nin, The Losers' Club by Richard Perez
Rating: Summary: Great Reading Anais Nin ! Review: I remember the first time this book entered by Apt, in St louis. I was at SLU. It was Saturday afternoon, and the warm air shooting around the apt had us in shorts, we sat down on the bed and started reading this wonderful book. The stories are unlike anything I have ever read before. I found myself searching for my book later in life to be able to enjoy this great writing.
Rating: Summary: A delectable collection of erotic stories! Review: Delectable is the word that sprung to mind while I read Delta of Venus. The stories are erotic to the core, but they also contain a great deal of symbolism and darkness. Rape, exhibitionism, voyeurism and incest are a few of the disarming and disturbing subject matters addressed in this book. My favorite stories are "Boarding School," "Mallorca," "Manuel," and "The Hungarian Adventurer." These stories enthralled me from beginning to end. They were a delectable reading experience! I look forward to reading more of Anais Nin's work in the future.
