Summary: This is one of the two best nuke books ever!
Review: I read this book as required reading when I was in high school. It affected me so much I had to own a copy but I forgot :-( who the author was. I searched Amazon.com and found myself a copy. I just wanted to share my opinion of this great book in the hope that someone new will read it for the first time. Oh, and the other great nuke book: The Sum of All Fears, by Tom Clancy.

Summary: Absolutely fantastic. If movie was made from book OCSAR
Review: My wife and I have a a fairly extensive library, 300 + hardback, only God knows how many paperbacks, and that does not include all of the books donated to the library over the years. Every reader at one point in time, wants to "read a good book", but what. We always reach for "Alas, Babylon". We have worn out 3 paperbacks, and are working on the library edition. We each must have read the book at least 50 times over the past ten years. A good solid read, A friend in book form, and a book that I don't think will ever go out of print. Because of this book, I think Pat Frank has gained immortality.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Anyone interested in nukes should read this book.
Review: This was required reading for Nuclear Weapons and World Politics course in college (our lighter reading). I enjoyed the realism that it brought when you get to the point and say, "This could happen to me."

I find it is one of the books that I have read over and over again,

Summary: There is more to this book than just nuclear war
Review: I am a tenth grade high school English teacher, and this is the only book I have been able to get mostly non-reading students to read. I first read this when I was in high school 25 years ago. Students for the most part really do like this book, and it is a good book to teach not only about nuclear war, but about race relations and what good can come out of terrible situations. Possibly the best part of the book is its hopeful nature. People adapt, although slowly, and they learn to help and give in ways they didn't before. Old people become necessary and respected. Skin color and economic status mean nothing. They have to destroy the world to find out what really is important in life. There are so many positive things that this book teaches. It makes me wonder why a movie was never made of it, and why the reading public in the 50's, when it came out, seemed more interested in On The Beach than in this book. It was very controvesial I suppose in its day. Younger people: don't wait for an older person to hand it to you as an assignment! Read it yourself!

Summary: A great story of human nature after a man-made disaster.
Review: A story of what happens to people after the bomb drops and destroys their world. How strangers become friends and all must help one another to build a new foundation to base their future on. Frank compares the bomb to evolution in that only the strong will survive.

Summary: A GOOD BOOK WITH A SLOW START
Review: I REALLY DIDN'T CARE FOR THE BOOK HOWEVER MANY PEOPLE DID. I THOUGHT THAT THE SLOW START OF IT KILLED THE EXCITEMENT. WE AHD TO READ THIS FOR 8TH GRADE ENGLISH AND OUR TEACHER LOVED IT. I READ MOST OF IT BUT IT GOT BORING UNTIL PAGE 150. THAT'S WHEN THE ACTION BEGUN. THE ENDING WAS ESPECIALLY SURPRISING.

Summary: Required reading in W. Central Florida
Review: Alas, Babylon was a very good book. I just got through reading it and I thought "my god, this could happen here" I live in one of the cities mentioned in the book. I'm writing on my essay now. Remember I read this in my freshmen class of English1.

Summary: Apocalypse, here we come.
Review: A truly great and realistic book, with the world events echoing some rather recent world news. Maybe we should all read this book and prepare. It was very interesting most of the way through, although it did get a bit typical at the end, with Randy taking charge. I'm also a bit disappointed that my favorite character died on The Day, but whatever. It was still a great book.
