Rating: Summary: It had me hooked.....until.... Review: I started this book, understanding that it was from the author of Fried Green Tomatoes, and made it through the "homey" part about the "old home town". When Dena began to go through her many traumas, I was entralled. I couldn't put the book down, even to drive home from work. But then something strange happened. Dena went to New Orleans to see Tennessee Williams and then the whole thing began to unravel. Her search for her mother's past was riviting, but the way she fell back into her "old home town" is still puzzling. It seemed rushed at the end and rather corney....sorry....
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment Review: I really enjoyed this book. Started reading it when I was in "blue" mood and the humor picked me right up. The writing made me believe I actually knew the characters. The contrast between the down home folks and Baby Girl was so vivid and believable. I would recommend this book to any one who ever questioned their participation in a family unit. Its great!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: Although the first couple of chapters were a little slow, once into this book, I could not put it down and read it in 2 days. Loved the characters and wish I could visit Elmwood Springs on my next vacation. Fannie Flagg's Fried Green Tomatoes was a great read and this one is on the same level. Keep up the great writing and thank-you Ms. Flagg!
Rating: Summary: Yuk! Review: This book justifies why I tend to avoid 'pop' best sellers. Not only were her characters 'plastic' and predictable, but so was the plot. This book was definitely a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Farfetched plot, boring heroine Review: I found this book a real disappointment. Flagg's forte is obviously describing small town life and the eccentric rural types who live there. But put her in New York, introduce an ice-blonde heroine with ice water in her veins....and the whole story goes sour? Who could care about the scattered and self-centered Dena? The plot was full of unbelievable twists and just plain silly asides. The estate of Tennessee Williams should sue Flagg for the way she writes that poor man.
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! Review: Every once in a while, you stumble upon a book that captures you heart and soul, and this was one of those for me. All I ever knew of Ms. Flagg was from watching her on the re-runs of "Match Game" from the '70's. She is a wonderful author, and this book was richly written, with a surprisingly good storyline. I was totally interested in what was happening to the characters and what was coming up in subsequent chapters. I didn't want to see it end. Kudos, Ms. Flagg! You have a fan in me for your writing, as well as your comedy.
Rating: Summary: Welcome to the World Review: Wonderful book. Story line keeps you involved. Characters were interesting, exciting, lively, neighbors next door. As well done as the other books by F.Flagg. Can't wait to read her next book!
Rating: Summary: A winner! Review: Fried Green Tomatoes being one of my all-time favorite books - and Daisy Mae right up there too - I approached this book with caution - having been told "it's not like her other ones". Well, it isn't like her other ones but it's still a good read! I really enjoyed exploring the puzzle of Dena's life and all the characters were just great. Don't hesitate to read this one!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: This book was great, I found I could not put it down. The characters were well developed and the story line was interesting. It was a bit of a mystery also. You feel the characters' pain, joy and relief. I loved it. It was a mix of small town and big city and how lives can merge together.
Rating: Summary: why did we wait Review: It took a long while for Flagg to come up with this but what was the thinking or doing about during the time we waited? This is superficial, contrived, poorly pieced and as poorly stitched together as writing can be.
