Summary: Fannie Flagg hits the nail on the head one more time!
Review: Another great book by a terrific author. When will this one be a movie? I'll be there!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great book!!!!
Review: This was my first Fannie Flagg book and I loved it!!! "Baby Girl" aka Dena Nordstrom is abandoned by her mother at age 15. Her father died before she was born and she never knew most of her family. After suffering with stomach problems, Dena moves back to Elmwood Springs, to be greeted by her distant relatives Bucky, Norma and Aunt Elner, who is an astonishing 93!!! The book tells all about Dena's life from start to finish and is both funny and sad. I can hardly wait to read "Fried Green Tomatoes"!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Passes the time, but not a satisfying read
Review: I wasn't really expecting anything in particular, not having read Flagg's other books. Rosie O'Donnell said she laughed heartily at parts of the story, yet I can't recall anything that brought more than a half-smirk. At times I was reading just to pass the time and finish the story. The storyline was goofy and seemed disjointed, not to mention the sticky-sweet, disappointing ending.

Summary: Great title, great book!
Review: I just could not resist reading a book that has a title like: Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! All of Fannie Flagg's elements of writing is in the book: A worn down character looking for smoother waters in her crazy life, her eccentric Southern relatives, a best friend that would write to the Pope when she becomes seriously ill, secrets from relatives' pasts that still haunts Dena in the book. A wonderful read!

Summary: Too much of a soap-opra! Not much substance.
Review: Although the book is enjoyable on one level, on the other level it was disjointed and written more on a high school level. I was disappointed that there wasn't more of a story. The characters didn't have any depth to them. The ending was totally unbelievable. Not one of Fannie Flagg's best efforts.

Summary: Charming page-turner
Review: I enjoyed this book very much. Yes, the ending was a bit sappy, and yes, the surprise was not as astounding as I was anticipating, but overall I found it charming, suspenseful, and couldn't put the book down until I finished it.

I loved the charming town and inhabitants of Elmwood Springs, and got a good laugh out of the very realistic conversations among Norma, Macky and Aunt Elner. Dena was less loveable as a big city girl with ruthless ambition, but as I got farther into the book, I found her more and more human, and found more and more to like, just as she did. I also found Gerry's pursuits very humorous, yet bittersweet. The ending was sweet yet warm -- I closed the book with a smile on my face.

Summary: beautifully told story, you laugh, you cry
Review: Fried Green Tomatoes was a favorite of mine and when I picked up Welcome to the World Baby Girl I expected another light but heartwarming story. Welcome to the World was heartwarming but it wasn't as light as Flagg's other books. This book involved more character development and a more sophisticated writing style. It was a wonderful read and a beautiful enchanting story.

Summary: It ranks behind 'Daisy' and 'F.G.T.' but read it anyway--
Review: After reading her first two books almost back-to-back, I remember being disappointed that Fannie Flagg hadn't written others...I ran right out and picked this up almost as soon as it was published. Flagg's warmth, humor, and affection for her characters and the richness of small town life are still in evidence but not to the degree of her first two books. My disappointment with the plot and focus of this book, however, gave me a better understanding of the elements I enjoyed in her previous books, so that the net result (for me) is that while I acknowledge that this isn't her best work, I came away from it (once again) appreciating her as an author.

I just wish she had spent a little more time crafting an ending, rather than sprinting for the finish line.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: couldn't put it down 'till the last word was read
Review: This book was incredible. The characters were very alive and Flagg provided a wonderful depiction of Southern life. Characters such as Sookie and Norma were very well developed. Flagg also weaves a very interesting tale of the main character, Dena Nordstorm. Dena's character may have been a little boring and typical at first (blond hair, blue eyed chic), Flagg places a perfect and totally unexpected twist to her main character's life my the end of the book. A great read.

Summary: More compelling than Sunday afternoon football!
Review: I highly recommend this book, although I agree with those who rate it below Fannie's other wonderful books. This book will suck you in and I found myself reading it instead of indulging in my other cherished guilty pleasure, Sunday afternoon football (ok..ok..I kept the games on, but the sound was muted).
