Summary: The Good Earth is a great venture into China
Review: The Good Earth is an excellent journey into traditional Chinese culture and the life of a man, Wang Lung. Wang has a very up and down life, which you are told about very closely. His life is shaped by his culture, and the Chinese culture is a very rich one. That includes much reverence for elders, ancestors, and the gods they believed in. I did like The Good Earth, but you need to give it a chance beforer you decide on the book. The culture is so much different, it took me a little while to get used to it. But, once you do, the book can be an extremely engrossing novel. I enjoyed learning of the events that take place in Wang's long life, and the way they affect him and his ever growing family. My favorite part of this book is probably when Wang's empire is growing and prospering. You can come along for the ride and feel the glory of Wang's power. Mrs. Buck really knows how to suck you in and let you experience the life of a man born a peasent as he rises to power. I do think The Good Earth is an important book to read. We, on the whole, are shockingly ignorant of other cultures. The Good Earth gives us a very good feel for Chinese traditions and the lives lived in that culture.

Summary: I think this book is a great book about morals.
Review: The Good Earth is a book about morality and what is truely important to you. Wang Lung is a poor peasant farmer that has nothing but some land and a small house. He gets to marry a slave woman from th House of Hwang. Her name is O-lan and she is not a beautiful woman. Wang Lung doesn't like that she is not beautiful, and he hates the fact that his feet are not bound, but he is glad to have a wife that will bear hime children and serve him and his father. He despised the rich and wished that he could have the riches they had, but he never wanted to end up like the people of the House of Hwang. But as the years passed on, he began to get more and more land, and started to become like the people he had once despised. Soon enough he had three sons and two daughters. Two of his sons became educated, and the other worked the fields like his father. His one daughter is severly retarted and the other is married away at a young age. O-lan dies and Wang Lund becomes even more like the people he didn't want to become. He buys a concubine named Lotus, and she lives in the many other courts he had built on to his house. Lter on he also becomes involved with a little slave he had bought named Pear Blossom. Wang Lung practicaly becomes the people he had so despised in the beginning.I think that the book was okay, though at sometimes I got very interested and enjoyed reading it. The book was sometimes hard to understand, but overall the book was okay.My favorite part was reading about the way they were becoming more and more like the rich and how they were inlarging their house and becoming rich.I think that The Good Earth is an important book to read. It teaches you that your morals should be the most important thing in the world. Kt Quinn

Summary: It's a good story about Chinese culture
Review: The book The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck was an interesting story to read. I think you shall enjoy the book. This story was a story all about morals. It was about a poor man and his family struggling during a very hard time in China. The main characters are Wang Lung and O-Lan. Throughout the story,Wang Lung and O-Lan have five children together. However, in China concubines were very common. Wang Lung had a concubine named Lotus. She was not a very kind woman, she disapproved very greatly of Wang Lung's children. His children, along with his land were his pride and joy. He wanted to get rid her because he loved his children and didn't like the things that Lotus would say about them. This story is basically a time line of Wang Lung and O-Lan's lifetime together. My favorite part of the book was when there was a famine and the family had to go to the south. I enjoyed that part because they worked as a team to achieve something special together. They also realized that they needed each other to get through it. I think that The Good Earth was an important book to read. It teaches people about Chinese culture long ago. The book shows the lifetime of two people together. Their hardships, struggles, and happy times together.

Summary: The Good Earth was all about the struggles that one faces.
Review: The book, The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck is basically about a poor farmer in China who has a love for the land, but money takes him over in the end. He lives with his father, and eventually he marries to a woman named O-Lan. Together they have many children. O-Lan is a woman of few words, yet when she does speak the words hold much importance. Wang Lung is very into his land, he has a love for his land that is greater than the love of his own wife, at first. As times become less and less prosperous for Wang Lung and his famliy, they decide to flee to the South. In the South, Wang Lung becomes rich. Upon becoming rich, he decides it is time to return home to the land. However, once he returns things would never be the same as they once were. He loses sight of his dreams, his love, his life------the LAND! He never could get back that desire to just go and put his bare feet in the cool earthen soil. I enjoyed this book very much. It was different than the books that I normally read. I usually read horrors or mysteries, but this novel had a different meaning behind it. I enjoyed this change. My favorite part was when Wang Lung bought Lotus. This was my favorite part because it illustrated the culture in China much better for me. It showed me how men treated women in China. I feel that the Good Earth was a very important book to read. Especially if you do not have any general idea of what the Chinese culture was like.

Summary: The Good Earth
Review: I am glad to hear you are reading The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. It is about a Chinese peasant farmer, who, to him, the land is everything: food, a roof over his head, a meal in front of him, and money. However, the fact of being a farmer does change for him when buys land from the "Great House" and starts losing his love for the land and starts towards what the downfall of the Great House was. Will this make him poor again? Wil this change him forever? Will he ever be the same....? Personally, I liked this book because of the begining plot of the book and how intense it was when there was a famine in the land and they had to determine wether to leave and risk starving because there might have been a famine where they were going, or stay where they were and wait until the famine "blew over." My favorite part was when Wang Lung was at peace after all the turmoil was over and his nephew was gone and he could just sit all day and die a pleased man. I think this book was an important book to read because it shows the chinese culture from a peasent farmers point of view, how people like him were treated, and lastly it shows the hardships and also the blessings of Wang Lung the farmer.

Summary: In my opinion, it was a soap-opera in writing
Review: The Good Earth is about a poor man named Wang Lung and his family. It tells the struggles of their life and what thay have to go through to become wealthy. Many morals are tested and changed. The book is by Pearl S. Buck, who writes to educate people on foreign culture. The book is some what of a soap-opera, with lust, greed, and jealousy. I liked the book, but many people didn't like it. I guess it all depends on what kind of books you like. I liked it because it was never boring. There was something happening all of the time. It was very unpredictable. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was not realistic. A man would have died in those condition, not become rich, but I guess this was just the authers way of showing both sides of society. It was the inside view of the rich and the poor. My favorite part of the book was when the old man, like a child, fond ways to show his displeasure in a certain person living in the household. He would do things such as throw rocks into the pools to scare the fish, and call out an unpleasant name directed at the person he didn't like. The man was, in many ways, like a child. I think The Good Earth was a important book to read because many people are oblivious to the cultures and societies of other nations. It exposes the culture of China, which is far from perfect. Women have very little rights, and the population is mostly poor and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Eventually, the poor can't get any poorer and a revolution breaks loose.

Summary: This book shows morals that can change a persons life
Review: Dear friend: The Good Earth is a book about morals. A farmer prospers by selling his wheat and rice. Wang Lung starts off as a poor class farmer. He works all day and sleeps at night. Wang Lung then realizes that he is getting older and needs a wife to work around the house and bore sons to work on the land. Wang Lung buys a slave from a rich house full of courts. Wang Lung does not see a liking to this woman, O-Lan, at first but he manages to deal with it. After O-Lan had children, Wang Lung saw a poster of a beautiful girl that he thought only existed in his mind. This girl, Lotus, really did exist. Wang Lung wanted this girl to be his wife so she moved in with him. As the sons that O-Lan had grew up, they took money from Wang Lung as if he were a local bank. Wang Lung and his family encounter the tragedies of extreme famine, loss of money, and death. This book is great if you enjoy reading books about love, hardships, betrayal, and basically the moralities of different people and how they can change. I really enjoyed reading about wang Lung and his family. Every chapter was something new. This book made me look at my morals more closely and find the things that are really, truly important to me. This book explains in clear details triumphs and tragedies that this particular family happened to experience. In a way, I liked trying to figure out how I related to the characters. My favorite part was when Wang Lung was in the South. He moved to the South to earn money and eat decent meals instead of soil, bark from trees, and skinny, limp animals. Wang Lung slowly got back on his feet to where he was and more. Wang Lung kept buying land which increased his popularity with the town and he was known as a rich man. The Good Earth is a book that I think everyone should read. This book shows the ups and downs of everyday life for a poor farmer in China. Some people that read this book may be able to relate to the problems that occur in this book. The Good Earth is a book that I recommend because of the decision making and the change of morals that can affect one's life.

Summary: The Good Earth
Review: So, I hear you want to know a little about The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Well, you have come to the right place. So lets get started. This book tells about the life a young Chinese peasant farmer named Wang Lung, throughout which he strived to become more than he started out as, living a life of luxury in a large house with all the money he could ever dream of. This would happen of course, but not without great hardship. Enduring a time of famine and poverty with his family and scuffles with his uncle were just two of the obstacles he faced during his trip to the top. Would life as a wealthy leader of a Great House change his morals and his way of thinking? Who knows? Read The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck and find out. This novel is very well written, and very interesting. It can be fun to learn about the way different cultures work. The Good Earth a great book to just sit back and enjoy. I would not, however recommend this book to unadventurous or unenthuaistic readers, because of its strong ties to what, to most, is a very unfamiliar culture and way of life, and it is a very important book to read, especially in school, for that very reason.

Summary: A Twisted Story of a Changing Lifestyle
Review: The book The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck is about a man who decides to get married. When he meets his wife, he sees that she is not the prettiest woman alive and most of all he notices that she does not have bound feet.He later realizes that she will change his life in more ways than one.Throughout the story, the man becomes greedy because he owns a lot of land in which he accumulates an enormous amount of money for that time period. I enjoyed this book because it describes life the way it used to be and it is not right to treat women different than men.It also shows how Chinese men treated their wives and concubines, and how money really was important even if someone was not rich.My favorite part was in the beginning of the book when Wang Lung was just going to get married and how excited he was. Usually back when this story took place, men were not good to their wives. But Wang was different. He bathed for her and bought her her own peaches to eat. When Wang Lung did this for his wife he was a sweet person-that would soon change though.I personally feel that the Good Earth was definitely a good book to read.It was not really ever boring(except for the very beginning). It is also important because it shows society how life was and how it could always turn out to be if people are not careful in what they say and do.

Summary: It was a great book to learn about the chinese culture.
Review: This novel is an excellent book to read if you are looking to learn about some things in the Chinese culture. Wang Lung is a Chinese man that starts off having a love for land then through the help of some thorns blossoms into a greedy selfish MAN. This novel is basically about the what the classification system can do to you. For Wang Lung at least. He was a regular man in the beginning. Then through the help of money and land turns into a monster type figure. To himself and to his wife O-lan. Most of the novel explains the work that Wang Lung and his family go through to make it where they wanted to be. But, the wealth that comes to Wang Lung and company not only does good but becomes hurtful to the family. This book is awesome in explaining the triumphs that This particular family experienced. This novel was a great book for a person like me who is ignorant of other cultures. I didn't have a favorite part but I loved reading about O-lan and what she did. This book is a great book for High School students to read. It teaches, especially the girls, how lucky we really are to have all the things we do.
