Summary: I didn't like it, but if you were into Chinese culture.
Review: The Good Earth is a book about Chinese people and the problems, culture and the life that they lead. The main characters are Wang Lung and his first wife, O-lan. It tells about the struggles that they had to live through to survive. The hardship and the travels that the two an their families had to go through. It shows how different the cultures are, and who they deal with life and their surroundings. A good example of what of a cultural difference is that when Wang Lung first meets O-lan, he does not like her because her feet are not bound, so that makes her ugly. I did not like this book, it did not interest me in any way. There were some strong points of interest in the book, but other than that I did not like it one bit. I do not see why we had to read a book that had nothing to do with me personally. It was a dull book, and it seemed nonsensical to read it. My favorite part of the book is at the end, when the brothers know that they are going to see the land, but it doesn't matter that the father does not want them to steal. They say to him that they would not sell the land just to make the father happy. I do not think that this book is an important book to read, unless you are studying Chinese culture. If you like this stuff, than I think that it would be a good book.

Review: TOM KNAUST A.THE NOVEL THE GOOD EARTH IS ABOUT A POOR MAN WHO PROSPERES OVER THE YEARS. HE WORKED ON HIS LAND AND MADE LOTS OF MONEY. HIS SONS WERE GREEDY AND WANTED EVERYTHING. WHEN HE BROUGHT ANOTHER WOMAN INTO HIS HOUSE HIS FATHER GOT VERY ANGRY AT HIM AND SCREAMED HARLOT INTO THE INNER COURTS OF WANG LUNGS HOUSE. O-LAN, HIS WIFE DIED AND HE WOKE UP TO THE WORLD AND REALIZED THAT HE LOVED THE LAND MORE THAN LOTUS, HIS CONCUBINE. I LIKED THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT SHOWS HOW PEOPLE LIVED IN ANCIENT CHINA. I REALLY LIKED HOW WANG LUNG PROSPERED OVER THE YEARS. HE WAS A HARD WORKING MAN AND DESERVED HIS GOOD FORTUNE. HE STARTED OUT A POOR FARMER, AND BECAME RICH OVER THE YEARS.I THINK THAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT CAN SHOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO SAVE YOUR MONEYAND WORK HARD. IT SHOWS THAT IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY YOU WILL MAKE LOTS OF MORE MONEY.

Summary: Good Book
Review: Quite nugatory The story, The Good Earth is based upon man's relationship with the earth, and uses the plot of a poor farmers rise to power to keep the reader intrested. I feel that if you can read past the slow start, and the awkward wording, it's a pretty good book(the first 200+ page book that I managed to read completely!!). The plot was strong, and kept me intrested with the many problems that Wang Lung encountered. My favorite part in the book was when Wang Lung returned to his house and started over again. Unfortunately, his gain of power and riches came a bit too quick for me. I felt that around that time the book became a bit far fetched. I feel that even though I disagree with my teachers on much of their anylization of the book, it was still a book worth reading.

Summary: The Good Earth was a fairly good book.
Review: The book The Good Earth is a story set back in 20 th century China. It contains many parts which may come across as being serious or even funny. The book is about a poor peasant farmer, Wang Lung, who is in search of a better life. Wang Lung receives a bride at the beginning of the novel, and from then on the book is basically about Wang Lung's marriage to O-lan, and his times of prosperity and depression. I did not dislike the book, but I did not greatly enjoy it because it was very descriptive of almost everything in the book. That made it very boring to read; however, the plot of the story was good and I enjoyed learning things about China in that time period. My favorite part of the novel occurs when Wang Lung is telling the teacher to beat his two boys if he has to, to make them learn. This was funny to me because the two boys are there to be taught and not to be beaten. The Good Earth is definitely a good book to read because, although it is boring it does contain important information about China at the time the book took place. I would not recommend it to someone to read because they would probably also find it boring unless they are really into that kind of material.

Summary: I disliked the book because it isn't my type of literature.
Review: This book was an okay book but it depends on what type of literature you like to read. I prefer more dramatic books like mysteries. It won a Pulitzer Prize so it has to be a good book at least to some people. When you like a book that has lies, bad people vs. good people and lots of references to the history of a country then this is the book for you. It also talks about the earth and how people are part of the earth. China is refered to many times and hepls to guide the reader throught the book. Wanl Lung and O-lan are trapped in the times that make it difficult to survive. Their survival is dependant upon the choices they make and the whether or not they pray to the gods for what they were fortunate enough to get. They survive through a lot but are not supermen that they can live therough everything. I don't want to give away to much of the book. I'll advise you reading it if you like award winning books and you prefer this type of a book. If you prefer murder mystery then this isn't your type of book. Summary: This book was important to read but yet not very enjoyable.
Review: I have just completed reading the book you are about to start, The Good Earth. I can not tell you about the whole book or anything but I can tell you that it is about the struggles of a family through famine, prosperity, personal troubles, and the morality of China society at the time. I, personally, did not really enjoy the book it became a confusing, dragged out book for me to read. It is entirely possible that you will like it but it was just not something I enjoyed but that is not to say that I didn't get anything out of it. If I had to pick a favorite part of the book it would have to when the family is poor and the daughter is very sick. Wang Lung begins to develop a very strong relationship with her, a relationship that only grows stronger despite the fact that during this time girls were considered to be evil. It is a very important book to read though because it is important to expand your horizons to other cultures of the world. This book also tends to make me personally thankful for all the freedom that women have in this country as opposed to all the restrictions that were placed on women in ancient China. no matter what opinion you get of this book from other people you should read it for yourself and formulate your own opinion.

Review: Well it took me a while, but I have just finished The Good Earth , by Pearl S, Buck. It is about how the Chinese culture affects the lives of this one particular family. The story starts out with Wang Lung, the main character, getting betrothed to a slave of a rich house. O-lan, his wife, was brought in as his possession. She did whatever was needed and produced many children for him. Through all the hardships and journeys they struggled through O-lan was the one who kept them all together and alive. Once they started to come into wealth and gain more and more land, Wang-Lung started to gain an ego and thought he had acclaimed power. From then on he figured he was too good for his normal life and family, and thus, he bought himself a concubine. Over the years, he over looked his family and the land and thus, he became alone in his life. I did not think the book was that bad, yet there were certain things I thought were too vague, which made it hard to understand. I also thought it was very long, which caused some chapters to drag a bit. My favorite part was when they drugged the mean uncle, who had plagued their family for years, and were able to escape to the House of Hwang . This book was an excellent example of the Chinese culture. Therefore, I think it opens us all up to an abundance of new experiences.

Review: The Good Earth is a book about a man (Wang Lung) in China on his wedding day. He goes to get his wife(O-Lan) Whom he's never seen before and falls in love with her. Time passes and she helps him in the fields as well as around the house. After a few mounths she gets pregnant. She gives birth alone in the bedroom. She does this quite a few times. One summer there is horrible druoght and most of the plants and animals die. Wang lung and his family hitch a ride on a train ot the south part of China. Once they get there they need to steal food to live. The poeple start to revolt and stampead in the streets. In the midst of all this O-Lan finds some jewels on the ground. She later gives them to Wang Lung. He sells them and that's how they get home. The family now has lots of money. A few months later O-Lan gets sick and dies. In the end Wang Lung dies too. I, personally didn't like the book. It didn't seem to have a point to me. I really don't have a favorite part, I hated the whole book. I really don't think that The Good Earth is an important book and I don't understand why we had to read it.

Review: What is The book about... The book The Good Earth is a about a man named Wang Lung living as a Chinese farmer. He lives his life with out problems with his wife and his tree sons and two daughters. Through out the book Wang Lung gets more money and more land, this makes him greedy. Wang Lung at the end came to his senses and remembered that hte land was the most important part of his life. Did I like it? why or why not? I personally did not enjoy the book, because I thought the plot was too slow, but it was put together well. The book was very boring and long. My Favorite Part was... My favorite part of the book was when the mean red beard uncle died. I thought this was good because the uncle was evil torwards Wang Lung and his family because he was family and he was able to do so. Was it a good book to read... Yes The Good Earth was a good book to read because it gave us information about the Chinese culture. Most people do not no about Chinese culture and this book was a good way to teach them.

Review: The book, The Good Earth is composed about a Chinese families rise to power and downfall. I enjoyed the book because it provided much information about Chinese history. This book also involved the struggle of Chinese women and the hardships they faced. One obscene that happened was men could have as many wives as they could afford. Many of these women had bound feet, which are where a young girl would have her feet broken and tied so they could not grow. My favorite theme in the book was how whenever the main characters left there farm bad fortune would come about them but there spirits were always healed when they returned to the land. If a character moved to the city he would come back different but once the land had touched their feet they were back to their healthy selves. I believe that The Good Earth was an important book to read because it provided a way to visit another culture. This book also was over a long period of time so the reader did not get bored. The book also tells of why we should be considerate of our land and appreciate all we have.
