Summary: A very boring book
Review: The Good Earth was a very boring book. It has some meaning to it, but basically the whole book dragged along. There was a plot, but it was not a very good one. The whole book revolved around the land and farming. I personally do not like books about land and farming.

Summary: this book didn't catch my interest
Review: The book was about the chinese culture seen through the eyes of the main charactor Wang Lung. wang lung stars as a young man who is ready to evoke on the marvelous ritual of marriage . when married , wang lung , is faced withh a women , his wife , who's strong hearted and brave named o lan she is willing and able to do basically anything asked of her , whether it be working in the field or delivering three lovely baby boys and one girl. In this book you travel through ther passing years of wang lung and o lan's life of happiness and tragedy. Personally I didn't care for this book , because it didn't catch my interest and it was exremely hard to get into. I thought the book was pointless and had no reason to it. I felt reading this book each night was a punishment . This book had some parts that were better then others , but none that appealed to me especially then any other part . the only part of this book that I can remember thinking about after I was done reading was o lan's dramatic death. I feel this book isn't essential to read , but if you enjoy reading about early chinese culture you may enjoy this book. To the normal 15 year student it wasn't entertaining and maybe to mature for our age.

Review: The Good Earth The Good Earth is a book written by Pearl S. Buck. The book is about the life of a poor farmer named Wang Lung, living in the country of China, and during the late 1800s. The story starts out with Wang Lung on his wedding day with his arranged marriage to a slave in a Great House. The slave's name is O-Lan and she was a very hard worker. During the first years of their marriage they had a couple of sons and prosperity. After the second son came a daughter, and the hardships. A huge drought came along and the family had to move south of their village to a city. In the city they begged for money and pretty soon they got it. The family became rich even more than before. More children were born, Wang Lung bought more and more land, and he even lent money to other people. The family became more broken and selfish as the years went by. The book ended with Wang Lung being a selfish, typical rich man, and dying The book was not one of my favorite books, but I didn't not like it either. The book was written wonderfully and I congratulate Pearl Buck on this achievement. This is the kind of book that you think a lot in and that you should read again and again. My favorite is when Wang Lung felt really bad about the death of O-lan and how ashamed he was that he never loved her. I did not like Wang Lung and I was glad when he did died. He was a very selfish man that only cared about things that had to do with money. The sad part is that a lot of people are like in our world. I think that the book The Good Earth is an important book to read. It helps people realize that we should not be so materialistic. I am glad that I read this book.

Review: The Good Earth is a book about a Chinese man named Wang-Lung and his family. Wang Lung was married to a woman O-lan and they lived with Wang Lung father. Over the years they had five kids. Wang-Lung went from being a poor farmer to being a lord in the great house. He even buys a concubine. In the end though the land Wang-Lung loved so much, the land that brought him his wealth was about to be sold. The book was okay for something we had to read in class but it was not something I read in my spare time. It's not something that interested me because I'm not into learning about others culture. My favorite part of the book was when Lotus arrives at the house I was really surprised at O-lan's reaction to the whole thing. I was also surprised that she told Wang Lung about the eldest son going into Lotus's courts. I didn't think that she would tell on her own son. Even if she didn't know for sure that he was going in to see Lotus. I don't think that The Good Earth was that important to read. I think it would be if we were learning about Chinese culture. That wasn't what we were doing though so I don't think that it was that important and we could have read something more interesting and appealing to kids in our age group.

Review: I heard that you are about to read Pearl S. Buck's the "Good Earth". This book is about a young Chinese man and his wife. It tells how he works on the land, has kids, barely survives a famine, gets rich, cheats on his wife with a concubine...two times, and dies knowing that all he has worked for on his land will possibly be sold by his sons. I hate to tell you but, I hated this book! I thought it was the most boring book I have ever read(Well,except the other ones we had to read for English). I hated the fact that the main character was such a corrupt, immoral and greedy man. I don't understand how the English department could even allow us to read this book because of the sin and sex "seens".(Well, I guess I can believe it considering they also had us read the number one ban book in the U.S.,"Of Mice and Men") If I had to pick a favorite part in the book, it would be when Wang Lung dies and his sons smile because they plan to sell everything that their father has worked for in his life. That is my favorite part because I think it shows how Wang Lungs sons finally get their revenge for themselves and for their mother. I really don't think the book "The Good Earth" was an important book to read, because quite honestly, I don't really think that we should be reading about a slutty, old, lazy, Chinese guy. I doubt that us reading this book will have any revelance on your future English skills or on life itself. ( O.K. , well other than trying as hard as you can to NOT be like the main character, Wang Lung. Good luck reading

Summary: A book with Chinese culture.
Review: The book is about a farmer who has many life experiences. It talks about his life from the day he got married to his first wife. They have many adventures that eventually lead to Wang Lung becoming one of the richest farmers in his village. His uncle is always one of the reasons Wang Lung has trouble to succeed. He also has to worry about matching his sons with a wife when they become ready. He does this because in the Chinese culture the father matches up his son with a wife. Neither the wife nor the husband can decline the marriage, or get divorced. I like the book. It was fun to read. You always had to wonder what was going to go wrong next. Wang Lung always had a major crises that was occurring in his house. My favorite part is when they are in the south. Wang Lung really wants to get back to the land, but has a lot of problems that do not allow him to return. The book The Good Earth is a very important book to read. It tells people about other countries culture. People need to know about other cultures to help stop racism.

Summary: The book that never ends!
Review: The book was okay, but it seemed to take the smallest thing and drag it on and on. The plot was good but it had way to many details that were definately not needed. Maybe if they took out all the details and made it shorter, people might actually like it. The book was also man-bashing. I am not a man so it really does not matter to me. It was a man who had two wives, and the one worked hard to give him what he wanted, land. And the other wife was just there for pleasure. That is as simple as the book needs to be. We know how men are anyway, and they will never change. So what is the point on making them read this book to see how nasty they really are? My suggestion is that if you want to learn about China find a book that is short, sweet, and to the point.

Summary: It's emotional and helped realize what went on in the past.
Review: This book was interesting when it comes to the issues, We have a women who works her butt off up intill the tiem she gives birth and then resumes her job right after. The simplest things though, were strung longer then needed. This book helped me realize what took place in the past and how much everything has changed, wether it is a good change or a bad change. I think it delt with certian issues which i feel needed to be brought up. It also shows how people change when it comes to money. I feel bad for Wang Lung , he worked so hard for his land and to maintain it and get more and more and now his sons will go and sell it right behind his back.

Review: The book was about a young man who is a farmer that lived in china. His name is Wang lung. Through the corse of his life he married a woman named O-lan. She was a great responsible wife. She gave him three beautiful sons along with a younge precious girl. Wang Lung loves his daughter more than any thing. She is a multipal handicaped girl. He calls her poor fool. During the course of their lives the famine starts where they are forsed to move south for a while. After about a year they went back up to the north where Wang Lung becomes very wealthy. He hires a lot of farmers to farm his land and that happens until he grows old and dies. Before he dies and before O-lan dies he buys a concubine and has alot of lusty love. Until she the concubine yells at his kids. Wang no more goes to her any more. His three boys grow up and move on once their father dies. I thought this book was really bad. It was really really really boring no action or even thrilling stuff in at all. It was horrible. This really take alot out of me when I read. Half the time I fell asleep at home reading it. The best part in the whole book was the last sentence because then once you got there and read it the book was finnally over. No more agony of this dreaded book. This book is good to read though because you learn what a concubine is and what they're for in the chinese culture. You also learn what lotus shoes are. They are shoes for the bound feet. There was alot of historic things in the book.
