So many times I have come back to this book and the women speak to me. It is real and it is riviting. Now that I am...mmore mature, I would love to do this play again. Anyone with a daughter or a neice should read this book. This is one that Showtime or HBO should consider for a movie.

Review: Ntozake Shange's "For Colored girls..." is a gripping collection of poems about life, love, pain and hope that will tell YOUR story if you can't find the words. I have had the honor to read and perform this treasure of poems many times and I still can't get enough of it. It will take any reader on a trip into understanding, sisterhood and hope, as well as letting them know that they are not alone. This book is truly for ALL girls who have "considered suicide" when the world was too much, but decided on LIFE.

Review: On 4/17/99 I was privileged to see a production of Ms. Shange's opus at Manhattanville College, bringing to life the lyrical intensity of her poetry. Though I read it while I was in college, seeing it live imbued it with greater meaning and helped me to gain true respect for the writer's extraordinary insight.

Review: Shange outdid herself in this peice she covered every emotion colored women feel. From fear, to joy, from hatred to love, from confusion to understanding she has captured it she is in the same category with the Alice Walkers, Gloria Naylors and Toni Morrisons of the literary world. This book was required reading but it soon turned into pleasure and inspirational reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, and I am very saddened by the fact that I had to get to college before I every got the chance to. This book should be required reading for every young women in high school in the United States. The writing is simple yet breathtaking and it speaks to the very soul of the reader. I loved it and I plan to read it again. This choreopoem ranks right up there with "The Bluest Eye" as one of the most prolific writings of the twentieth century. Both of these works are the female version of Ellison's "Invisible Man" and we all know that regardless to what anyone says that is the most amazing book that has ever been written. Great job Ntozake Shange, you go girl!!!!!

Summary: This book really hit home and gave me a feeling of empathy.
Review: Shange's book voiced many of the feelings that I have experienced, especially the poem by the lady in red on page 13-14. As soon as I read that particular poem I knew I would do my oral report on it. I have lived that experience that the lady in red talked about. I felt good that I wasn't alone; and the poem expressed my feelings more clearly than I might have been able to.

Review: THE STRONGEST CHARACTERS IN THIS CHOREOPOEM ARE BY FAR, THE LADY IN RED, THE LADY IN BLUE AND THE LADY IN GREEN. THESE MONOLOGUES AND SCENES WERE INCREDIBLE. I ONLY WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE SOME OF THE STRONG MATERIAL SPREAD MORE EVENLY AMONG THE OTHER WOMEN, YELLOW, PURPLE, ORANGE.

Review: This book is about African American women, but it would be helpful to women of any race. It adresses problems from everyday life. It shows how different ethnic backgrounds view men and their dreams.The story shows ups and downs of the author's life. It also shows how women can keep on striving and keep their goals in sight. Read this book for your own good, and for your own insight into life. You will find that you are not the only one who has survived certain unhappy situations.
