Summary: Got me hooked on Demille
Review: This is the first of Demille's I've read. Great read, loved every bit of it - I bet most guys could identify at some stage with John Sutter. Literally had tears from laughing, a well written witty and at times macabre book. The descriptions of the Italian meals made me want to buy an Italian restaurant !! Great book Nelson !

Summary: Odd Bedfellows: Long Island's Gold Coast meets the Mafia
Review: A mafia don buys an estate next to a monied gold coast couple, a lawyer married to a society girl. There goes the neighborhood. The neighbors become an unlikely duo both riding a parallel path of destruction. Being mafioso is not what it used to be. A man's work used to be his bond, and loyalty meant character. But now nobody can be trusted. The old days are gone. Likewise, the great estates are dying, being broken up into two acre parcels. The society duo cannot keep it together. Their land is being sold and their marriage is faltering. The don and the duo's lives become intertwined, but the story told is rather predictable. The history of the Gold Coast is nicely woven into the tale, but the tale itself falls flat. The book is an enjoyable read, but never delivers on its early promise of a truly exciting story.

Summary: A hillariousely sad novel
Review: Nelson gives incredible, never before revealed insight into the thought process of a man. I could not put the book down as I needed to read what amazing idea would come out of DeMille's mouth next!

Summary: wow
Review: A friend mailed me this book in february of 1997. I have since read all of DeMille's efforts, Plum Island being the most recent, and Gold Coast is by far the best! The main character is one of the wittiest men ever. It is hard to be funny, even harder to WRITE funny! DeMille is a treasure!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Godfather at Gatsby's house!
Review: Gold Coast will take you back into the lives and protocols of the rich. This is the closest you will come to actually experiencing the differences between different cultural and professional backgrounds of two very interesting and descriptive characters. Nelson De Mille will consume your mind with a clear plot and an unpredictable twist. The novel has a nice blend of past and present day Gold Coast residents and landmarks. This is a very smooth and informative book that once you pick it up you can't put it down until finished. If you read any book by Nelson De Mille read this one!

Summary: AMAZING BOOK
Review: This is one of the few books I've read where I finished it and said that was a really good book. This story is fast paced and intresting. The characters are well developed and interesting. It is one of the few books that I have read where the situations and characters seem true to life. I would highly recommend it. This is DeMille at his best.

Summary: You need at least 6 stars to adequately praise this book...
Review: Frightening, heart-stopping, poignant, sad, riveting. Along with By the Rivers of Babylon, one of the best books of all time!

Summary: Two times is the charm
Review: I'm currently on my second reading of this wonderful book. The first time I felt, as apparently many others do, that the book was down right hilarious. So much so, that I forgot that it is a very dark, upsetting story about cultures clashing, and the fragility of the human morality. Don't get me wrong, John Sutter is still the funniest, most sarcastic of all De Mille's funny sarcastic heroes. But, this book is so much more.

Summary: A great read
Review: Very funny and the story lingers in you. I can't wait to read other De Mille books.

Summary: A tremendous and memorable read!
Review: This was a tremendous pleasure to read. Sitting on the beaches on a well-needed vacation, I must have laughed out loud every couple of minutes. This book is written with superb sarcasm, precision and humor. A quick and memorable read.
