Summary: Kafka ignites reason in this book about the drudgery of work
Review: As he starts realizing that he is living the life of one, Gregor Samsa wakes up one day to find out that he's become a disgusting insect. Or does he? Is the insect that he sees himself as, a product of his neurotic mind?

This book is wonderful in that small details tell a lot. It's short reading, though 3/4 of the book is just explanations and theories of the story. This book will make you think if nothing else. And books that do that are books that live long in the readers' mind after they've read them--the immortal books.

Summary: A Great Short Story
Review: The Metamorphosis was my first real "work" of Kafka I've read (like most). It is a great story whether you take it as it is, literally, or you are able to recognize the symbolism involved. Humorous and entertaining. NOW I AM ADDICTED TO FRANZ KAFKA!!!

Summary: Profound
Review: THis book is about the transformation of not only Gregor but of his entire family as they respond to his change. Gregor now is dependent on his family, when before they were more dependent on him and his future. His metamorphosis forces the family to better themselves although they do not realize it during the process. Although the story was unbelievable, the symbolism and deeper levels of the book made it a good read.

Summary: A dream like clarity that's quite disturbing.
Review: Kafka struck me as being sort of nightmare surrealism that's NOT horror however. Well, in least not in the traditional sense. This work wasn't for me, but after reading works of author's who are full of themselves it's bizarrely refreshing to see work by an author that's obviously self-loathing. Who says narcissism is the only way to succeed?

Summary: At first glance, a disturbing piece of work.
Review: At first glance, a disturbing piece of work. At second glance one realizes that Samsa is more human when he becomes a bug than he was before his metamorphosis. Samsa's story is like the book of Job's emphasis on the misunderstanding of suffering.

Summary: I found that this book was extremely boring
Review: I am sorry, but I must say that this book was a waste. Kafka's writing style, grammar, ability to portray the characters. etc. is excellent, but nothing ever really happened. Kafka spends the whole time describing how Gregor feels and the family's reaction. This is a key point for anything extraordinary, but not important enough to focus the idea into a full book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: FANTASTICALLY MINDBOGGLING BOOK!
Review: This book really expresses the feelings of one who is trapped both by his physical and mental state. This book gives us all an example to learn from. Kafka has managed to create a work that is both intellectually stimulating and thoroughly enjoyable to read.

Summary: Modern-Day Automaton Finds Comfort in an Escapist Philosophy
Review: Gregor Samsa wakes up and realizes he has become a giant cockroach. Very Entertaining. However, few realize the meaning of this work. Samsa's values were rooted in an archaic and exploitive Social Ethic. He awakens with a new set of values that opposes the security of the collective. Hence, he ceases to serve his greedy family and his conformist contemporaries. He enters the world of the despised. He delves into a nightmare realm and emerges with an individual identity, a big taboo in the exploitive "collective conscience" that we are forced to serve to this day. Don't be fooled by Samsa's complaining. His "metamorphosis" is a much needed, even desired, inner change.

Summary: I can't believe there's people who talk bad about this book.
Review: I mean, all those people below who say that "it's boring" "I read it 'cause it was an assignment from school" and all that, I don't think they understand it at all. This book is a simple, easy and short story with a great background. What you got to read here you got to read it between the lines, while amusing yourself with the story of Samsa.
Actually the first time I read it it was an assignment from school, and I've read it twice more since then. A very enjoyable book.

Summary: Ultimate betrayal of a family
Review: this novel starts out as an unreal, disgusting idea of a man waking up as a bug. but it actually ended up being sad. overall good work.
